Before MM started really selling a ton of these high end cob offerings i bought a bent country gentleman and put a nice vulcanite stem on it. Reminds me very much of these 2 pipes. Great smoker. Cobs are awesome. I think my favorite pipe i own is an MM Missouri pride with an amber danish bit. Cost me like 6 bucks and smokes so so good.

My C&D Charlestown Cobbler was delivered today. And lo and behold I discovered your review after searching for ways to “break in” a cob. I have had a less expensive cob for years now. I wanted to avoid the bitter taste of the first few bowls before the shank develops a char. Some have suggested using a torch lighter to pre char it. I may try that.
@@williamcrane1 I would just smoke it with the understanding that your flavor experience is only going to improve with time. This way you can start building that bowl cake as well.

I`d pull the accordion back and forth and he`d transfer his piano skills to the keyboard.... with combined efforts we made some lovely tunes...and memories....out in the woods- just the two of us😄
I love mine. I've had it for probably three years or so. I was just smoking a bowl of Solani ABF in it today and was thinking that the pipe almost looks like it did when new. And I agree, I believe it is worth the money when considering the nice stem that comes with it. If all I had was MM cobs to smoke for the rest of my life, I would be just fine. Hopefully it doesn't come to that. Congrats, all the best.
How's ABF handle in a cob? I've never been able to get a handle on that blend in a briar. It gets a pine needle flavor to it. It gets rave reviews but I've never enjoyed it the way others do.
@@nicholasklein9180 For me at least, ABF smokes beautifully in a cob. Of course, the ABF I'm smoking now has been aging in a jar for a couple of years. It wasn't bad fresh, but seems to be a little smoother and creamier with a little bit of age. Happy smokes.
I've had mine since December and broke it in with a light aromatic (Cellini CX). Just for fun, one day I tried some Samuel Gawith Balkan Flake in it and it tastes better in the Cob than my Briar designated specifically for English/Balkan blends. Great pipe !
Nice looking cob , but $30 for a cob ! …Now I’d willingly pay that for a MM if they ever made a 9mm filter cob , but sadly I don’t think they ever will .

I have not started smoking a pipe yet , but I have a job which I'm starting in a few weeks so should hopefully get the money. I generally like to research something for several months whether it be a new hobby instrument or an expensive buy before I even announce I want to do something. I don't like to start things in the dark, I've been constantly practicing the breath method with a straw and juice for ages. Nobody in my family that Is alive today smokes a pipe, my great grandfather did but he died before I was born. But I remember we where out holidaying on this campervan camp site here in the UK as a young child and I was out for my walk (I've always been an outdoors person if I'm stuck in a room or indoors all day I tend to loose my marbles slightly) and I saw somone smoking a pipe and I remember the smell very distinctly it definitely wasn't an aromatic it had a dark smokey heavy smell, and I thought it was rather nice i realised tobbacco doesn't have to have that nasty chemical smell you get off ciggerets. I'm gonna see if I cant get mum to smoke a pipe she's been using ciggerets all my life. Tolkien helps of course, I must say im much more inspired by tye man himself in this regard rather than his characters, to me he is the image of a pipe smoker whenever I close my eyes I picture him, just as some may picture Einstein or C.S Lewis or what have you. I'd like to try some capstan .
@@hobbitonpiper I guess one question I do have, and it's probably a silly one, what type of tobbacco would be best to start with, aromatics as often seems to be the types people recommend for a beginner or a lighter non aromatic like peterson early morning pipe?
