This 65-minute video lesson explores an in-depth look at the Prelude in D major, Op.23 No.4 by Sergei Rachmaninoff. This is one of my absolute favorite pieces. You play it absolutely gorgeously Dr Smith! I love the way you teach it as well. It's interesting how you view the story of this piece. My personal connection is I would love to hear this piece when I'm on my deathbed.
The verses would be looking back at the story of my life unfolding. All the while the undulating current of the piece is gently carrying me to the great beyond until we reach the end where I disappear over the horizon into that beyond.
Jason, I'd take this one as a deathbed piece as well! You should look up Rach's Op. 21/7, the song called "Melodia". Make sure you read the translation!

I am working on this piece too. A lot of fingering tricks to emphasize melody note.

I have a question for Dr Josh, what dress code do u recommend for your students? If u have a dress code in place.
It all depends on the venue. For a studio recital, nice clothes (no jeans or tennis shoes) is fine. For other venues, I’ll just comment on what I usually wear - for a solo concert I generally wear a suit and tie, and for a symphony gig I’ll usually wear a tux.
