  • Time to get back on the water. Now we get a crank instead of a click.

Totally off topic, but are the ignition coils numbered 1 to 6 from top to bottom with the spark plug wires the same? I have a mid 80’s 90hp that will not start for the life of me.

I will be doing a full video on testing out the electrical setup on these tower of powers.
      run a few tests:
      1. Kill switch - black and yellow Take off and try to start.
      2. Stater - blue and blue, white 5000 to 7000 ohms / red and red, white wires 125 to 155 ohms
      3. Trigger - white and purple 800 - 1400 ohms / brown and black, white wire 800 - 1400 ohms
Test all of these and hit me back on the results.
I had a bad stater on mine. Cost a little bit but while I was in there I replaced the power packs. and trigger since I was in there. they are not so bad.
i will try to get into the shop this weekend and make a more in depth video on the process.
Good luck and let me know

Mine cranks and cranks and cranks and sputters sometimes, but won’t run. I’ve changed some of the ignition coils, but what would cause the engine not to have spark? I guess it would be the stator right?

Stator or trigger. They can be tested with an ohm meter. I did find the old parts that i took off so I should be able to make a testing video this weekend.

whats the voltage on the trigger wire with key on

Sup Eric. I did not check the trigger voltage when I worked on it this time. Once I unpack it from storage, I can take a reading as a reference. Once I jumped the terminals of the solenoid I figured it was not engaging properly. I have had it out a few times since this swap and it starts up every time. As long as my 12 year old doesn't flood it. :)

@@5LakesGarage i have seen a warn out key switch (even a bad wire connector on the key switch) only send trace amount voltage to the starter solenoid ( i.e. not enough to actually fully engage it.) just something to check, connection do bounce loose on a boat.

That would do it. I will check that out once I uncover it. it is driving me crazy that it is just sitting there cause i am too busy now a days. I do have the material to rewire the entire right side of the boat. Remove the old glass fuses for some more modern setup. Thanks for the tip. Love this platform. We learn from each other.
