Hello Grzegorz and everybody who "clicks" here - this tune and the arrangements sound great. No doubt many artists interpreted this piece according to their tastes - however - I find this one - extremely beautiful. Al Bowlly was a gifted vocalist - it's a shame he died young. Thanks a million for this masterpiece. Sending you and all of us lots of big greetings from sunny, hilly and hot (tomorrow will be much cooler and not humid - thank God) -vicinity of New York City.

This song always makes me think of my mother, as it was a favorite of hers. A wonderful version here -- and I don't recall having heard the verse until now. I've been on a big Al Bowlly kick lately, so I was glad to hear this one. A very atmospheric presentation!

When preparing this note I found a little unknown detail from Al Bowlly's bioghraphy - how unfair he was towards a poor sick American in London, abandoning his band and going to another when Fox was in sanatorium in Switzerland. This shows how unscrupulous was then a struggle between dance bands in UK. There were plenty of great orchestras in London, and the best restaurants in West End - just a few.

Trombonology Erstwhile The way I understand it. Fox left the band business for a short period of time and Lew Stone took over the entire band including guitar/vocalist Bowlly

Extremely interesting historic background of this melancholic rendition, thanks! Is it the version with Al Bowlly as vocalist?

Certainly, the Bowlly's voice is well heard in that male-trio.
