People have been complaining about the lack of classic One Piece gags and humour since timeskip, and now I'm seeing everyone complain about how this new Luffy is too goofy. No one will ever be happy lol
I always thought it was dangerous whenever Luffy got an idea for a solution. Now this man's ideas can take form and the New World ain't ready. Ever since he put Arlong's teeth in his mouth, Luffy's fights have been my favorite to watch outside of Usopp's or Chopper's.
Gomu Gomu no Boh... (Airhead) when fighting Enel. Even him becoming Chibi Luffy as a result of Gear 3rd was funny. He has always been fighting like the most entertaining, ridiculously intelligent idiot out here. Now, his abilities fully match his personality. Quite fitting, wouldn't you say?
I don’t understand what is so hard to comprehend about Luffy’s appreciation for Pedro. To Luffy, Pedro was a friend and Luffy values all of his friends. Pedro literally sacrificed himself to save Luffy and his crew (idk the exact OP time but has it even been a month?). If someone died right infront of you, on purpose, to save your life; you’d think about it literally every day.
Yep. Specially with Luffy, a child-like character who literally receives a little bit of food or decides he likes you and suddenly you are his friend and he will fight for you

I personally love the fact that Luffy mentions Pedro. Out of all the characters Luffy and his crew have met Pedro was the only one that fully sacrificed himself for them. Had Alabasta gone different a certain Will of P member would have been mentioned as well I'm sure of it. Oda understands how meaningful Death is for a character, Ace, and the Going Merry are proof of that. The fact that Luffy understands how important that sacrifice meant is really good stuff.

Luffy's old man reaction seemed a bit similar to Chopper when he left his monster form. Him being confirmed as a zoan now might have explained a bit of his reactions to the gear changes and such
Why you think Blackbeard is terrifying? Have you seeing the Gorusei worry? You think they don't know anything about what he's doing? The final villain will be Imu. Stop thinking Blackbeard is the Sasuke of One Piece, better yet, stop comparing One Piece with your average gutted by publisher Shounen story. These stories are just not in the same level as One Piece. Trust me, I have reading Shounen's for decades. Even his Rare Logia and Paramecia can't do nothing against the only know God Fruit in the story. Imu probably has a God Fruit too, it would make sense in the plot-line. Who knows, maybe those moons around the One Piece World are actually source of powers of 7 different Gods, it would make sense why Enel was attracted to the moon if his power is confirmed to be a God Fruit too, I doubt it. But there's always the possibility, Oda always does the unexpected.
I think “Pure white” is akin to Sengokus transformation where he turns golden. Luffy probably looks like a ball of pure light. Like his whole being not just his hair.
That's interesting. Because now I'm wondering if Sengoku's devil fruit was just found randomly by him, or if the 5 Elders purposefully gave it to him. Maybe the Gum Gum Fruit was intended to be delivered to Garp?
For the entire raid basically the sky has been filled with storm clouds, blocking them from seeing the sky. At the end of this chapter I just noticed that the sky was finally above them, and even cooler is the colour they chose to fill it in with the coloured panels. Its almost the dawn, you can see that its not purely dark but rather dark blue, just a few minutes away from the sunrise. We're almost there, the dawn is soon to rise. And I mean, he does embody the sun god, so perhaps these powers allow him to get energy from the sun itself. I think that'd be pretty cool.
My favorite piece is the fact that Kaido is noticing all of this so quickly. Realizing luffies transformation is a zoan. The fact that he is literally bending reality to his will. And hints are even showing of kaido understanding that luffy is the next joyboy.
I simply love the fact luffy's power up is based on what his imagination is limited to. If this was given to ANYONE else, it *maybe* won't be as powerful, but definitely not as entertaining. If nothing else this is cementing Oda's legacy as THEE top mangaka.
I like to think about this fight from Kaido's perspective. He is essentially fighting a being that is no longer operating under the laws of their reality and that to me is kind of hilariously terrifying.
usually when a Devil Fruit starts acting up Haki is your answer to the problem. Kaidou tried that and the result was funny-haha-face spikes on Luffy dragon-man is probably running his brain a mile a minute to try and figure out what the fuck he can even *do* to hurt this freakin' balloon animal he's fighting
I feel like after Kaido gets defeated, the Island falls and Momo tries to hold it. Ths island divides into half and Luffy somehow makes everything & everyone into rubbery saving everyone.
It's especially good seeing that 5th Gear has its drawbacks. One problem with a lot of Shonen powerups is that they tend to be introduced, and either never have a shortcoming, or only fail after a stronger power comes along and it's time for a new powerup. Luffy is either going to have to train for a while to master his new form, or use it very sparingly, like in controlled bursts.
Tho I wonder... Is the drawback because Luffy was already dead if not near death? So if later would he be able to use gear 5 without dying first? Or He needs to die before using gear 5?
I mean 3 of the emperor basics weaknesses is ocean water lol, but kaido is considered the strongest. Big mom is powerful with no drawbacks. Blackbeard def is a huge power house with no drawbacks all of them except the df weakness they all share they are power houses. Luffy would need power on that level. Luffy transformation leaves him weak, but i don’t see why luffy needs a short coming if he needs to compete with those others. Also shanks don’t have df. Power his haki is strong. So to compete with monsters you gotta be a monster.
@@phishmastermike Maybe at the endgame, but if Luffy can just turn into a Looney Tune without any drawback, he'd likely just steamroll every bad guy that will appear after Kaido. Not to mention it would be kind of boring if there's no danger to using the new powers, given Luffy has often had to contend with possible threats on his lifespan when obtaining many of these powers. So for there to be the risk of dying if he overdoes it the new power means the stakes will be high in every fight that may require the full power of his fruit.

I feel like some people (including the characters themselves) think that when Kaido is defeated, everything will be over. But there're so much stuff to take care after that, it's stressing me out... 1) Onigashima in flame, how do we stop the fire ? Can Zunesha help with his trunk ? 2) Onigashima in the air, how do we stop it from falling ? Can Momo do something? 3) If Onigashima is destroyed, what will happened to the Poneglyphs? Did they make a print of it ? 4) The CP0 is still here for Robin. 5) The Navy's coming. 6) Big Mom's crew is coming too (eventually?) And there's so much more I probably forgot.
For anyone who’s curious about luffy’s continuous changing of color, the recent chapter stated that luffy is entirely white other than his skin. So the whole fire hair thing is now fanon. Or at least the color orange being the color of the hair is.
I believe Luffys power is making his imagination reality. When he first ate the fruit and stretched, he was told that was what his fruit did and all he could do. However each new gear unlock has been luffy imagining he could do something and it becoming reality. (Hit faster, be bigger & hit harder etc) his red hawk was learned by completely imagining that Ace was there throwing a flame punch with him, thus it became reality. Shanks knew luffy would become the pirate king when he said he would be as a kid, because the fruit made that imagination a reality. He met with the 5 elder stars, because he was the only one who could know how close luffy was to realizing what his powers could do.
Eh kinda a stretch, no pun intended. It's more like luffys body needs to bend and stretch like rubber so it can be "free" to form into whatever he wants it to.
The panel where Kaido struck Luffy in the head with his club made my jaw drop. The way that the spikes from the club protrude from Luffy's face make him look like a devil and I found that fascinating because I believe that was very intentional on Oda's part.
When Luffy detransforms from 5th gear this chapter, I really do believe he is out of stamina and is forcing his body to move at the expense of his own life force. Which will also explain why Kaido says you're going to kill yourself and Luffy saying that he doesn't care if he dies. I'm really worried about Luffy he's putting so much stress on his heart. I can see Luffy dying just like Roger and his death leading to the end of The Great Pirate Era.
Oh yeah, Luffy's definitely going to die at the end of the series. There's a heavy emphasis on inherited will and, much like Roger, it'll happen with Luffy (maybe or maybe not w/ the surrendering part). Though, this helped solidify how it would happen. I'm still holding on to the theory that the narrator of OP is Brook and that we're reading his recollection of his journey w/ the Straw Hats.

The Pedro part really caught me by surprise, but it makes sense. Not only was it his sacrifice that allowed them to reach Wano, he had this strong desire to help usher in the dawn, and Roger told him that his time will come.
I absolutely love how this new power-up gives Luffy greater ability to enact all the wacky moves that he's been thinking up since day one. Even if Oda had not been planning for this long term, it just fits so well, and I cannot wait to see how Luffy's fights will play out for the remainder of the series. As for how Luffy avoids dying after this fight, I wonder if the key is Yamato being present and knowing Luffy's real dream. Maybe Yamato will need to give Luffy that last bit of extra strength by reminding him that he can't die before fulfilling his promise with Sabo and Ace, and achieving his dream. That might be too shonen cliche, but I do wonder why Oda made sure to bring up that Ace told Yamato this particular piece of information.

I love how in all of the other shounen anime, the main characters become more serious and more competent as time goes on, but Luffy becomes more silly and more prone to distraction as time goes on. It's just such a fun reversal
I think it's going beyond silly, into too stupid. Tension is gone. Naruto using reversed sexy justu to hit a goddess was funny without removing all tension. Even when Luffy used arlon teeth he thought it would actually work, there was some desperation
Maybe when Luffy reached out Kaido's eyes, it was like when he punched Kaido in the face, and the back of Kaido's head stretched with Luffy's fist. He didn't literally go "through" the eyes, he stretched the eyeballs with his fists. Luffy's giant form also looks like it dwarfs regular giants. Was also curious if his new heartbeat had anything to do with previous gears, and when I looked back to when Luffy uses gear 2nd for the first time against Blueno, "doom" appears on the panel when he goes into it, as well as when he goes gear 4th against Doffy. Thought it was interesting, but led nowhere unfortunately. Couldn't find a "dut" to correlate.
Although the an extremely huge part in Luffy's victory would be his creativity, the increase in strength should not be ignored. I mean, if the Gorosei are something to be trusted on matters of global importance, them saying that the awakening strengthening the rubber body of our precious Rubber-boy is EXPONENTIAL. So, I do hope not only for Luffy being a really big force to reckon with in the creative aspect, but also be a heavy, heavy hitter in raw strength to be on-par with the likes of Roger and Whitebeard.
They said that his rubbery body become exponentially stronger. That doesn't' necessarily mean physical strength. It could literally mean that his body itself is far more durable. And we see this given that luffy tanked kaido's swing and it just changed the shape of his head
With his abilities literally coming into fruition, I would go as far and say that blackbeard yami yami no mi is the antithesis against the hito hito no mi model nika. A power that can do anything vs a power that renders anything into nothingness. That will be a interesting clash to see in the next 10 years lol
I feel awakened luffy is like kid luffy. So many possibilities with his fruit, not really in control but having so much fun. Or even east blue early luffy where he was taking inspirations from random things like the pinwheel etc
I have a theory that Zunisha is actually a giant with a zoan fruit. Joyboy has many connections to giants, and we all know from recent chapters that Zunisha was his companion so imagine if he is an ancient giant race or a continent mover (which is funny because he is literally moving an entire country on his back).

But even in that case there are some who have been able to move and survive while in water like Luffy when he used his attack underwater in fishman island. Zunisha moves slowly through the water, and that could be da reason is because the water is restraining him

A devil fruit is only as good as it’s user. Brook’s devil fruit seems lame as it only brings back to life whoever eats it. Brook however, managed to master his devil fruit abilities and unlocked new powers such as freezing opponents, astral projection and self healing. I’m hoping his awakening involves summoning ghosts to do his bidding, maybe something like in Lord of the Rings. Seeing how amazing his devil fruit is, his awakening has got to be spectacular.
I appreciate the fact that kaido is still having an upper hand even with gear 5th...kaido is the real definition of a monster... Plot armor can't be enough.
GrandLineReview, I just wanted to say that I’ve finally caught up to the end of One Piece. And your videos were what inspired me to do it. I usually just watch the anime, while reading chapters from the manga every so often to try and catch up. I had trouble doing so the further I got in the manga, as the arcs became longer and fresher in my mind as I got past the time skip. But last year, you made a video talking about how spectacular and amazing chapter 1000 was. And it seemed like for every single chapter after that, each chapter became more and more ground breaking and revolutionary until finally Gear 5th was unveiled. I finally caught up to where I was in the anime, and further up to chapter 999. I finally got to read chapter 1000 today, and I couldn’t stop reading. Each and every chapter was as good, as revolutionary as your chapter reviews promised. I read over 40 chapters in a single day, and now I finally know what all this hype over the newly-risen sun god is about. I know it’s unlikely that you’ll read this, but thank you for however indirectly inspiring me to catch up.
I feel like this is one of the funniest chapters in a while, usually, I would laugh at one or two jokes per chapter, but I think I laughed at nearly every page reading this chapter. Luffy's powers and everyone's reactions to them are just hilarious. I wonder about Luffy's state when he runs out of energy, particularly if it would have any serious consequences. I hope there are going to be major consequences to his awakening, mostly because otherwise this ability just seems too op, especially if Luffy learns how to use it better.
That was just a theory luffy made up because he thought that the gomu gomu no mi transformation burned through his life, now that it's confirmed it's a zoan that is no longer a theory
because its a shounen series and the mc always has to have a drawback for every ability no matter what it is, also that life span thibg has two directions it can go, he dies at the end of the series due to it, or it appears in alater arc and luffy beats it through sheer will power, or both
Its worth noting that the Wano arc started with many nods to traditional Japanese artwork, from plays, to music, to painting, to swordcraft, and now Luffy (the one prophecied to open Wano's borders) is fighting with a style clearly influenced by early Western cartoons
With the introduction of “god” devil fruits I wonder if it explains Blackbeard’s devil fruit at all. I know there’s a theory of him having a octopus devil fruit that gives him three hearts which allows him to wield multiple fruits or something like that. I wonder if it’s actually something more like the Hito Hito no Mi: Model Asura, a god with three faces. Furthermore there's theory of people inheriting the will from the one who previously ate their devil fruit. This could be a stretch but maybe with the Asura fruit, the new fruits (Yami Yami no Mi & Gura Gura no Mi) could become the two other faces of asura if that makes sense. One of the faces would be White Beard, and with another theory of Xebec previously having the Yami Yami no Mi. Perhaps Blackbeard could be the asura god with Whitebeard and Xebec as his two other faces.
I'm still assuming it's the Thu-Thu (Cthulhu) fruit. It's octopus, god, and a few other things rolled into one. It ticks off all the boxes, while also making for an epic final boss. Just imagine the final battle being Sun God Luffy vs Golden Buddha Sengoku vs Cthulhu Blackbeard.
I’m kinda wondering if Law is gonna end up sacrificing himself and performs the “ultimate surgery” to save Luffy after he exits Gear 5. That’s kinda my prediction, simply because I can’t really think of any other way to save someone from the brink of death. (EDIT: lots of cool and interesting theories/opinions in the replies. Seems there’s a lot of ways this could go for sure with or without Law’s intervention. Will be interesting to see what happens!)

With Law, Marco, and Chopper all there, I certainly lean to one of them healing Luffy; however, the argument could be made that by having all three of them there, should it be decided Luffy can’t be saved by medical means, then it is definitively time for Law to use the Ope ope no mi immortality technique and die
Brooke could possibly awaken his fruit allowing him to bring other people's souls back. He would have to have a big limitation for that not to be ridiculously op though.
I feel like luffys' conquers haki is also influenced by his fruits awakening and that Cq haki is influencing everyone in an area of effect. Which would explain why kid law etc had the eye pop thingy
If we do get Kaido's backstory, in episode 900 and something I think either Smoothie or Perospero mentioned Kaido and Big mom being on the same crew so I wonder if it will show that if he has a backstory.
His fruit is moreso making everything rubber and elastic, which gives off the effect of him having toon force. His fruit is still awakened which means he can make anything rubber and elastic.
Now I'm very curious what we will have with Teach. He was seeking for zoan type DF, his body takes more damage but theoritically with strong heart (maybe 3 hearts), he's also mister funny guy, and Shanks concerns about him - Luffy's DF ideally fits him.
Yeah I was thinking that as well what if the yami yami no mi was another zone since its said to have a will of its like zoan types right? If so I would be fearful of its strange power specifically based of hp Lovecraft since we seen so many Asian zoan types of mythic like kaido Marco, crescent woman, yamato, and orochi

Teach may want the third devilFruit, it's lacking zoan type - it can level out his weakness of taking extra body damage 'cauze rubber, gear 2 and 5 literally depends on heart strength - Teach's body (theoritically his heart) is abnormal that allows 3 DF which means he could handle with "GomuGomu" better than Luffy. And the last important one the Will of D/JoyBoy/sun god Nika's power - Teach as protogonist easily can claim that he's the chosen one. plus, now we can remember why Shanks foresaw the danger from Blackbeard
I think you are taking that too literally. It doe's increase his devil fruit power/abilities but not in a literal sense, it makes him far more versatile and gives him crazy abilities but his physical strength is still the same. That is why it is great. They were terrified not because 'oh no now he can punch hard like Kaido' but because his ability makes him near impossible to deal with as it has almost limitless possibilities.
@@TehWhiteTiger I mean, it also makes him stronger because he has more means of increasing his strength by givinWho *could* beatg him unlimited stretching and toon force. So even if his base strength is the same, his effective attack power becomes more or less infinite, limited only by his/the enemy's haki. Who could beat Gear 5 Luffy? He won't be scared of Big Mom, physical force is worthless, he can didge any haki strike by stretching and has will of the D to prevent conquerors. He's practically invincible at this point.

Luffy didn't punch thorough Kaido's head. He hit him from the side and Kaido's head just curved in so much that it looked like he punched through his head from the front. Similarly, Luffy's hands didn't go through Kaido eyes. He stretched his eyes and wore them like gloves before grabbing Kaido nose and escaping through his mouth. Edit: Or maybe I'm completely wrong and Luffy did punch through Kaido's head. We'll just have to wait for the anime to catch up.
I thought he was just stretching Kaido's face. If it's stretched the hair would be further apart and more skin would be visible. His fist looked like it was covered with a solid lair of skin.
Bruh, he 100% went through Kaido’s head . Look at the damn panel, his hand is white and it clearly shows Kaido’s hair and head open with “broken” lines of it .
One of the things the 5 Star Elder's mentioned was how the person who awakens the Niko-Niko fruit has the "ability" to put a smile on anyone's face. Kido is the most depressed character in One Piece. I think his defeat will involve Luffy putting a smile on his face and making him an ally.
My prediction, Luffy will beat Kaido permanently by grabbing that giant sword next to the Skull of Onigashima, and then punching Kaido while holding the sword

Without any context to the video, I had a dumb idea in my mind. Brook's devil fruit Yomi Yomi no Mi lets him revive after death, and if you eat 2 devil fruits you'll die. So what if brook when he was a human ate a second fruit? Would he lose his both lives or would he have 2 fruits?
I dont think so, when we are first told about what happens when someone eats two fruits we are told the two "devils" in the fruits tear the body apart. And the soul needs a body to return to
Reason why Luffy can influence everything in the vicinity is because of the use of conquerors haki multiplied by his awakening. Looks like his devil fruit awakening is the best mix for haki users.
Exactly right? Like while reading this and the previous chaoter since gear 5th, i hear these looney tunes sound effects in the back of my head while looking at Luffy XD. It's such a fun series that never fails to make me smile, but this chapter made me lol XD
I was rewatching some of the past arcs and They've definitely done the eyeball thing before. I think that was more comedic effect rather than luffys powers.
@@Reylus the rubbery effect is Nika's power all along. Zoan users can use part of their power. Heck even "bringing smile to people around him" and "liberate people" are also Nika's power (which compliment with Luffy's character). I think Luffy's Gear 5th / Awakening is when Luffy can utilize 100% of Nika's power conciously, not just parts of it unconciously. So, those many "cartoonic" event pre gear 5h may be some of Nika's power Luffy uses unconciously
You said it very well when describing Luffy's awakening/gear 5. While it does amplify Luffy's powers to some extent, the key to that power-up really lies on the increased freedom/versatility it gives. That, combined with Luffy's skills and imagination, makes for a more sensible power-up.

I personally think luffy's nika fruit is not about toon powers, and since mythical zoans have technically two powers (animal transformation and the power innerent to the legendary being), I think the "turning things into rubber during physical contact" thing is an awakened stronger version of the god nika's innate power, which would be the "having properties of rubber" thing, all the things that Luffy did in the fight could be explained by the awakened rubber powers, and the other wacky things that happened could have just been visuals effects to make the combat more funny.
This chapter makes so much sense now. Remember when luffy would get punched by strong enemy’s at the start of one piece and wouldn’t get hurt but when Nami punched him it would. Because he was never rubber. His body followed the principles of good guys in old Fashion cartoons. This is just amazing
Yes! Gear 5 is just phenomenal. It really makes to possibility of beating an impossible to beat opponent reality, and not just with a simple power up. Just perfect. I am so happy with this direction Oda has taken the fight and am feeling my own heart start beating back up to the love I had for the series from the start
Before Sun God Nika theories I've seen many people speculate about a "Sun Wukong" Luffy and to me that reference/metaphor still fits perfectly. His personality is aligns so well with Luffy, wanting to stand up against the gods who wrong the normal people, but doing so not because of a stoic defender trope, but because they have an actual ego and like to see tyrants who proclaim themselves gods fall.And just like Luffy Wukong was notorious for playing with his opponents, even in dire situations. TBH its why Luffy will probably be my nr.1 shonen protagonist of all time. Its cool to have someone with utilitarian motivations, but also showing a sense of self and drive cuz in reality, giving up your life for your friends every 2 weeks is an exhausting mindset xD
To me, Luffy's "Nika" powers are that he can do what ever he believes he can do. This is also why he started to lose power when he felt tired. It ties into luffy's will and the fact he never gives up. when he says he will do something he 100% believes he can do it. like a cartoon character that runs off a cliff and walks on air till they look down, or how if they believe hard enough they can run on air to get back to the cliff before they fall. this could also have implications with 3 members of kaido's crew, namely Sasaki, Queen and King. All three have done cartoonish things with there zoan transformations, helicopter frill for Sasaki, Separating his tail, neck, and head for Queen, and king pulling his beak into his head by tugging on the back of his head. And all three believe thats how there animals used to do those things. Maybe there was some experimenting done on them to try and give them some effects of the Nika fruit.
love the video but have we completely abandoned the idea of not showing important things in the thumbnail? No issue for me personally as a manga reader but just saying. The giant luffy panel was wayyy too amazing. I just had to stop and stare at it for way too long.
I also think a video about all of the failed gomu gomu powers of the past that got shelved would now be possible and what they could look like. For example, there's the power where luffy controls a marine soldier by wrapping himself around him and walking him places.
I do love how Luffy has gotten those 3 power ups. It feels like climax area of the middle of a Zelda or Dark Souls game, where you get a lot of power ups at once to make your character into the next version of what they were. Also, to be fair. There are FOUR experienced doctors on Onigashima itself. Chopper, Marco, Trafalgar Law and Goat Doc. So I think Luffy will be fine after.
I remember Joygirl saying in your last video how she'd like to see Luffy turn into a giant. And because of that I found that scene where he turns into a giant to be immensely satisfying.
one thing to keep in mind in regards of Kaidos strength is, that he is still benchlifting the very island this whole fight is taking place on. and i simply can not view this as an all out battle from his side for as long as he keeps doing that. i still view this as Kaido essentially fighting with one hand behind his back.
I think those flames are on auto pilot and doesn’t require kaido’s power since if he had to constantly keep the island floating then the island would’ve crashed down long ago because of how drunk he’s got during the fight

I got a bit of a theory: Awakenings occur when the user is closest to death. Luffy: Was bonked way too hard by Kaido, which resulted in the Hito-Hito no Mi’s awakening. At no point before was Luffy genuinely dying, even when he was poisoned by Magellan. Law: Nearly died on several occasions fighting Doflamingo, which only awakened after the fight was over. Kid: Was also bonked hard by Kaido. Doflamingo: I dunno, he choked on his pizza one day? Can’t remember a time when Doflamingo was so close to death. Katakuri: He tries to keep Big Mom’s hunger pangs in check to protect his family, so it’s not a stretch to say Big Mom nearly killed him a fair few times before his Devil Fruit awoke. However, if a user dies before their Devil Fruit can awaken, then it doesn’t count, like with Ace, Brook and Monet. Can’t awaken your Devil Fruit if you’re already dead. The only exception to this is Luffy, who has the life energy and stamina of Nika and can now survive Kaido’s attack. Think it holds any water?
I completely agree with you... Luffy is already a goofy character 99% of the time, so when HE becomes serious you know things are REALLY bad and tense. I really dislike all the laughing during the fight from the last 2 chapters. I don't mind the goofy fighting style but the laughing is really bothering me. And I still can't get over the fact that Luffy needed a SPECIFIC devil fruit in order to become Joyboy. So if he eats any other fruit he's not able to become pirate king and defeat the WG? I reckon Luffy is going to find a way to 'devolve' Kaido back into a Koi fish and trap him that way permanently, thus not killing him but essentially killing the future threat he might pose. Then he can live in the fish tank on the Sunny as a form of punishment

The new form is awesome and the usage is amazing! There is just one thing that I’m a bit on the fence about. The power and name revelations of fruits. When they eat a fruit they know that will give them powers, but they don't know what their skill will be (ex. everyone wish to eat the Mizu Mizu no Mi, but they find out that they ate something else). After they ate the devil fruit they find out what is their new power. They will know the name after seeing the power. So when Luffy ate his devil fruit (which had a cover name of the Gomu Gomu no mi) shouldn’t that have revealed the fruit’s true name and nature to him originally?

After reading this chapter and learning more about luffy's fruit... So I've come to the conclusion that Enel's fruit might also be a mythical zoan probably some Lighthing god zoan... Remember Enel had that strange luffy like lightning god transformation at the end of the arc and that transformation is definitely more of a zoan thing as we just learned in the recent chapters.... Not at all, Robin knew of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit because it is an infamous devil fruit, it's certainly in the book of known devil Fruits if it turns anyone who eats it into an 800 mil bounty and probably has a picture too. What I really like in this chapter that Kaido showed his experience. And he is 38 years older and at least 3 decades more of combat experience. He is the strongest creature for a reason. Even at the last chapter the reason he wasnt shocked because he seen this sh*t several times. If youa re the strongest Luffys power is already a memory... Sugars, Giolla are the most abstract powers, but since he possibly fought against Tsuru and her wash-wash fruit... Yeah... a reality bending rubber boy is nothing too absurd. I LOVED the scene where he said: "your power doesnt make sense. You clearly awakened, but only zoans transform with awakening..." I really wonder if Kaido will be defeated... His combat expertise and wisdom is not something you can ignore. My bet Zunesha and Kaido admitting that Luffy is Joyboy will be the reason of submission...

It’s clearly more of a “new transformation stamina issue” trait. We haven’t really seen any Zoans awaken for the first time, but I am guessing it’s like this for all of them: first few times are just too intense to keep the form up. Hell, when Law and Kid used their awakenings vs Big Mom, both got ultra exhausted
What was also crazy about Luffy making all his friends cartoon eye pop because all the Beast Pirates who saw him the panel before were just normal One Piece eye popping! So, it would basically indicate to me that Luffy is somewhat controlling who he is affecting and who he's not!

I don’t understand what is so hard to comprehend about Luffy’s appreciation for Pedro. To Luffy, Pedro was a friend and Luffy values all of his friends. Pedro literally sacrificed himself to save Luffy and his crew (idk the exact OP time but has it even been a month?). If someone died right infront of you, on purpose, to save your life; you’d think about it literally every day.

I personally love the fact that Luffy mentions Pedro. Out of all the characters Luffy and his crew have met Pedro was the only one that fully sacrificed himself for them. Had Alabasta gone different a certain Will of P member would have been mentioned as well I'm sure of it. Oda understands how meaningful Death is for a character, Ace, and the Going Merry are proof of that. The fact that Luffy understands how important that sacrifice meant is really good stuff.
I am sad though that One Piece keeps Liam so busy HxH is being pushed aside.

For the entire raid basically the sky has been filled with storm clouds, blocking them from seeing the sky. At the end of this chapter I just noticed that the sky was finally above them, and even cooler is the colour they chose to fill it in with the coloured panels. Its almost the dawn, you can see that its not purely dark but rather dark blue, just a few minutes away from the sunrise. We're almost there, the dawn is soon to rise.
And I mean, he does embody the sun god, so perhaps these powers allow him to get energy from the sun itself. I think that'd be pretty cool.

My favorite piece is the fact that Kaido is noticing all of this so quickly. Realizing luffies transformation is a zoan. The fact that he is literally bending reality to his will. And hints are even showing of kaido understanding that luffy is the next joyboy.
I simply love the fact luffy's power up is based on what his imagination is limited to. If this was given to ANYONE else, it *maybe* won't be as powerful, but definitely not as entertaining.

I feel like after Kaido gets defeated, the Island falls and Momo tries to hold it. Ths island divides into half and Luffy somehow makes everything & everyone into rubbery saving everyone.

It's especially good seeing that 5th Gear has its drawbacks. One problem with a lot of Shonen powerups is that they tend to be introduced, and either never have a shortcoming, or only fail after a stronger power comes along and it's time for a new powerup. Luffy is either going to have to train for a while to master his new form, or use it very sparingly, like in controlled bursts.
Tho I wonder... Is the drawback because Luffy was already dead if not near death? So if later would he be able to use gear 5 without dying first? Or He needs to die before using gear 5?
I mean 3 of the emperor basics weaknesses is ocean water lol, but kaido is considered the strongest. Big mom is powerful with no drawbacks. Blackbeard def is a huge power house with no drawbacks all of them except the df weakness they all share they are power houses. Luffy would need power on that level. Luffy transformation leaves him weak, but i don’t see why luffy needs a short coming if he needs to compete with those others. Also shanks don’t have df. Power his haki is strong. So to compete with monsters you gotta be a monster.

Maybe at the endgame, but if Luffy can just turn into a Looney Tune without any drawback, he'd likely just steamroll every bad guy that will appear after Kaido. Not to mention it would be kind of boring if there's no danger to using the new powers, given Luffy has often had to contend with possible threats on his lifespan when obtaining many of these powers. So for there to be the risk of dying if he overdoes it the new power means the stakes will be high in every fight that may require the full power of his fruit.

For anyone who’s curious about luffy’s continuous changing of color, the recent chapter stated that luffy is entirely white other than his skin. So the whole fire hair thing is now fanon. Or at least the color orange being the color of the hair is.

I believe Luffys power is making his imagination reality.
When he first ate the fruit and stretched, he was told that was what his fruit did and all he could do. However each new gear unlock has been luffy imagining he could do something and it becoming reality. (Hit faster, be bigger & hit harder etc) his red hawk was learned by completely imagining that Ace was there throwing a flame punch with him, thus it became reality. Shanks knew luffy would become the pirate king when he said he would be as a kid, because the fruit made that imagination a reality. He met with the 5 elder stars, because he was the only one who could know how close luffy was to realizing what his powers could do.
Eh kinda a stretch, no pun intended. It's more like luffys body needs to bend and stretch like rubber so it can be "free" to form into whatever he wants it to.

The panel where Kaido struck Luffy in the head with his club made my jaw drop. The way that the spikes from the club protrude from Luffy's face make him look like a devil and I found that fascinating because I believe that was very intentional on Oda's part.
When Luffy detransforms from 5th gear this chapter, I really do believe he is out of stamina and is forcing his body to move at the expense of his own life force. Which will also explain why Kaido says you're going to kill yourself and Luffy saying that he doesn't care if he dies. I'm really worried about Luffy he's putting so much stress on his heart. I can see Luffy dying just like Roger and his death leading to the end of The Great Pirate Era.

Oh yeah, Luffy's definitely going to die at the end of the series. There's a heavy emphasis on inherited will and, much like Roger, it'll happen with Luffy (maybe or maybe not w/ the surrendering part). Though, this helped solidify how it would happen. I'm still holding on to the theory that the narrator of OP is Brook and that we're reading his recollection of his journey w/ the Straw Hats.

The Pedro part really caught me by surprise, but it makes sense. Not only was it his sacrifice that allowed them to reach Wano, he had this strong desire to help usher in the dawn, and Roger told him that his time will come.
I absolutely love how this new power-up gives Luffy greater ability to enact all the wacky moves that he's been thinking up since day one. Even if Oda had not been planning for this long term, it just fits so well, and I cannot wait to see how Luffy's fights will play out for the remainder of the series.
As for how Luffy avoids dying after this fight, I wonder if the key is Yamato being present and knowing Luffy's real dream. Maybe Yamato will need to give Luffy that last bit of extra strength by reminding him that he can't die before fulfilling his promise with Sabo and Ace, and achieving his dream. That might be too shonen cliche, but I do wonder why Oda made sure to bring up that Ace told Yamato this particular piece of information.

I love how in all of the other shounen anime, the main characters become more serious and more competent as time goes on, but Luffy becomes more silly and more prone to distraction as time goes on.

I think it's going beyond silly, into too stupid. Tension is gone. Naruto using reversed sexy justu to hit a goddess was funny without removing all tension. Even when Luffy used arlon teeth he thought it would actually work, there was some desperation
Maybe when Luffy reached out Kaido's eyes, it was like when he punched Kaido in the face, and the back of Kaido's head stretched with Luffy's fist. He didn't literally go "through" the eyes, he stretched the eyeballs with his fists. Luffy's giant form also looks like it dwarfs regular giants. Was also curious if his new heartbeat had anything to do with previous gears, and when I looked back to when Luffy uses gear 2nd for the first time against Blueno, "doom" appears on the panel when he goes into it, as well as when he goes gear 4th against Doffy. Thought it was interesting, but led nowhere unfortunately. Couldn't find a "dut" to correlate.

Although the an extremely huge part in Luffy's victory would be his creativity, the increase in strength should not be ignored. I mean, if the Gorosei are something to be trusted on matters of global importance, them saying that the awakening strengthening the rubber body of our precious Rubber-boy is EXPONENTIAL. So, I do hope not only for Luffy being a really big force to reckon with in the creative aspect, but also be a heavy, heavy hitter in raw strength to be on-par with the likes of Roger and Whitebeard.
They said that his rubbery body become exponentially stronger. That doesn't' necessarily mean physical strength. It could literally mean that his body itself is far more durable. And we see this given that luffy tanked kaido's swing and it just changed the shape of his head
With his abilities literally coming into fruition, I would go as far and say that blackbeard yami yami no mi is the antithesis against the hito hito no mi model nika. A power that can do anything vs a power that renders anything into nothingness. That will be a interesting clash to see in the next 10 years lol

I have a theory that Zunisha is actually a giant with a zoan fruit. Joyboy has many connections to giants, and we all know from recent chapters that Zunisha was his companion so imagine if he is an ancient giant race or a continent mover (which is funny because he is literally moving an entire country on his back).

A devil fruit is only as good as it’s user. Brook’s devil fruit seems lame as it only brings back to life whoever eats it. Brook however, managed to master his devil fruit abilities and unlocked new powers such as freezing opponents, astral projection and self healing. I’m hoping his awakening involves summoning ghosts to do his bidding, maybe something like in Lord of the Rings. Seeing how amazing his devil fruit is, his awakening has got to be spectacular.
Imagine if his devil fruit awakening is what helps bring Zoro back

GrandLineReview, I just wanted to say that I’ve finally caught up to the end of One Piece. And your videos were what inspired me to do it.
I usually just watch the anime, while reading chapters from the manga every so often to try and catch up. I had trouble doing so the further I got in the manga, as the arcs became longer and fresher in my mind as I got past the time skip. But last year, you made a video talking about how spectacular and amazing chapter 1000 was. And it seemed like for every single chapter after that, each chapter became more and more ground breaking and revolutionary until finally Gear 5th was unveiled. I finally caught up to where I was in the anime, and further up to chapter 999.
I finally got to read chapter 1000 today, and I couldn’t stop reading. Each and every chapter was as good, as revolutionary as your chapter reviews promised. I read over 40 chapters in a single day, and now I finally know what all this hype over the newly-risen sun god is about. I know it’s unlikely that you’ll read this, but thank you for however indirectly inspiring me to catch up.
I'm honestly so happy about this. His power of bringing smiles works in our universe. I can never stop smiling while reading all these new chapters.
I feel like this is one of the funniest chapters in a while, usually, I would laugh at one or two jokes per chapter, but I think I laughed at nearly every page reading this chapter. Luffy's powers and everyone's reactions to them are just hilarious.
I wonder about Luffy's state when he runs out of energy, particularly if it would have any serious consequences. I hope there are going to be major consequences to his awakening, mostly because otherwise this ability just seems too op, especially if Luffy learns how to use it better.

With the introduction of “god” devil fruits I wonder if it explains Blackbeard’s devil fruit at all. I know there’s a theory of him having a octopus devil fruit that gives him three hearts which allows him to wield multiple fruits or something like that. I wonder if it’s actually something more like the Hito Hito no Mi: Model Asura, a god with three faces. Furthermore there's theory of people inheriting the will from the one who previously ate their devil fruit. This could be a stretch but maybe with the Asura fruit, the new fruits (Yami Yami no Mi & Gura Gura no Mi) could become the two other faces of asura if that makes sense. One of the faces would be White Beard, and with another theory of Xebec previously having the Yami Yami no Mi. Perhaps Blackbeard could be the asura god with Whitebeard and Xebec as his two other faces.
I'm still assuming it's the Thu-Thu (Cthulhu) fruit. It's octopus, god, and a few other things rolled into one. It ticks off all the boxes, while also making for an epic final boss. Just imagine the final battle being Sun God Luffy vs Golden Buddha Sengoku vs Cthulhu Blackbeard.

I’m kinda wondering if Law is gonna end up sacrificing himself and performs the “ultimate surgery” to save Luffy after he exits Gear 5. That’s kinda my prediction, simply because I can’t really think of any other way to save someone from the brink of death.

With Law, Marco, and Chopper all there, I certainly lean to one of them healing Luffy; however, the argument could be made that by having all three of them there, should it be decided Luffy can’t be saved by medical means, then it is definitively time for Law to use the Ope ope no mi immortality technique and die

His fruit is moreso making everything rubber and elastic, which gives off the effect of him having toon force. His fruit is still awakened which means he can make anything rubber and elastic.

Its just thoughts about hostility between Luffy and Teach. Previously we could imagine final fight with them just because they're both "D" wanting to be Pirate King + Blackbeard killed Ace. Now there are more connections. Teach may want the third devilFruit, it's lacking zoan type - it can level out his weakness of taking extra body damage 'cauze rubber, gear 2 and 5 literally depends on heart strength - Teach's body (theoritically his heart) is abnormal that allows 3 DF which means he could handle with "GomuGomu" better than Luffy. And the last important one the Will of D/JoyBoy/sun god Nika's power - Teach as protogonist easily can claim that he's the chosen one.

I think you are taking that too literally. It doe's increase his devil fruit power/abilities but not in a literal sense, it makes him far more versatile and gives him crazy abilities but his physical strength is still the same. That is why it is great.
They were terrified not because 'oh no now he can punch hard like Kaido' but because his ability makes him near impossible to deal with as it has almost limitless possibilities.

Who could beat Gear 5 Luffy? He won't be scared of Big Mom, physical force is worthless, he can didge any haki strike by stretching and has will of the D to prevent conquerors. He's practically invincible at this point.

Luffy didn't punch thorough Kaido's head. He hit him from the side and Kaido's head just curved in so much that it looked like he punched through his head from the front. Similarly, Luffy's hands didn't go through Kaido eyes. He stretched his eyes and wore them like gloves before grabbing Kaido nose and escaping through his mouth.
Edit: Or maybe I'm completely wrong and Luffy did punch through Kaido's head. We'll just have to wait for the anime to catch up.
I thought he was just stretching Kaido's face. If it's stretched the hair would be further apart and more skin would be visible. His fist looked like it was covered with a solid lair of skin.

he did do some kind of spinning motion while charging, I think a punch through the face wouldn't have that kind of motion happening before the punch.
One of the things the 5 Star Elder's mentioned was how the person who awakens the Niko-Niko fruit has the "ability" to put a smile on anyone's face. Kido is the most depressed character in One Piece. I think his defeat will involve Luffy putting a smile on his face and making him an ally.

Without any context to the video, I had a dumb idea in my mind. Brook's devil fruit Yomi Yomi no Mi lets him revive after death, and if you eat 2 devil fruits you'll die. So what if brook when he was a human ate a second fruit? Would he lose his both lives or would he have 2 fruits?
I dont think so, when we are first told about what happens when someone eats two fruits we are told the two "devils" in the fruits tear the body apart. And the soul needs a body to return to

Reason why Luffy can influence everything in the vicinity is because of the use of conquerors haki multiplied by his awakening. Looks like his devil fruit awakening is the best mix for haki users.

@@Reylus the rubbery effect is Nika's power all along. Zoan users can use part of their power. Heck even "bringing smile to people around him" and "liberate people" are also Nika's power (which compliment with Luffy's character). I think Luffy's Gear 5th / Awakening is when Luffy can utilize 100% of Nika's power conciously, not just parts of it unconciously. So, those many "cartoonic" event pre gear 5h may be some of Nika's power Luffy uses unconciously
You said it very well when describing Luffy's awakening/gear 5. While it does amplify Luffy's powers to some extent, the key to that power-up really lies on the increased freedom/versatility it gives. That, combined with Luffy's skills and imagination, makes for a more sensible power-up.

I personally think luffy's nika fruit is not about toon powers, and since mythical zoans have technically two powers (animal transformation and the power innerent to the legendary being), I think the "turning things into rubber during physical contact" thing is an awakened stronger version of the god nika's innate power, which would be the "having properties of rubber" thing, all the things that Luffy did in the fight could be explained by the awakened rubber powers, and the other wacky things that happened could have just been visuals effects to make the combat more funny.

Yes! Gear 5 is just phenomenal. It really makes to possibility of beating an impossible to beat opponent reality, and not just with a simple power up. Just perfect. I am so happy with this direction Oda has taken the fight and am feeling my own heart start beating back up to the love I had for the series from the start
Before Sun God Nika theories I've seen many people speculate about a "Sun Wukong" Luffy and to me that reference/metaphor still fits perfectly. His personality is aligns so well with Luffy, wanting to stand up against the gods who wrong the normal people, but doing so not because of a stoic defender trope, but because they have an actual ego and like to see tyrants who proclaim themselves gods fall.And just like Luffy Wukong was notorious for playing with his opponents, even in dire situations. TBH its why Luffy will probably be my nr.1 shonen protagonist of all time. Its cool to have someone with utilitarian motivations, but also showing a sense of self and drive cuz in reality, giving up your life for your friends every 2 weeks is an exhausting mindset xD
The anime filler episodes that tied in to film Z had full on giant Luffy, so it's really cool to see it in the series itself.
To me, Luffy's "Nika" powers are that he can do what ever he believes he can do. This is also why he started to lose power when he felt tired.
It ties into luffy's will and the fact he never gives up. when he says he will do something he 100% believes he can do it.
like a cartoon character that runs off a cliff and walks on air till they look down, or how if they believe hard enough they can run on air to get back to the cliff before they fall. this could also have implications with 3 members of kaido's crew, namely Sasaki, Queen and King. All three have done cartoonish things with there zoan transformations, helicopter frill for Sasaki, Separating his tail, neck, and head for Queen, and king pulling his beak into his head by tugging on the back of his head. And all three believe thats how there animals used to do those things.
Maybe there was some experimenting done on them to try and give them some effects of the Nika fruit.

The giant luffy panel was wayyy too amazing. I just had to stop and stare at it for way too long.
I also think a video about all of the failed gomu gomu powers of the past that got shelved would now be possible and what they could look like. For example, there's the power where luffy controls a marine soldier by wrapping himself around him and walking him places.
I do love how Luffy has gotten those 3 power ups. It feels like climax area of the middle of a Zelda or Dark Souls game, where you get a lot of power ups at once to make your character into the next version of what they were.
Also, to be fair. There are FOUR experienced doctors on Onigashima itself. Chopper, Marco, Trafalgar Law and Goat Doc. So I think Luffy will be fine after.

one thing to keep in mind in regards of Kaidos strength is, that he is still benchlifting the very island this whole fight is taking place on.
and i simply can not view this as an all out battle from his side for as long as he keeps doing that. i still view this as Kaido essentially fighting with one hand behind his back.
I think those flames are on auto pilot and doesn’t require kaido’s power since if he had to constantly keep the island floating then the island would’ve crashed down long ago because of how drunk he’s got during the fight
@@Tyreker this exactly. And if Kaido was controlling that flame all along, Momo would not have been able to use it to pull Onigashima away. Since Momo could not produce enough flames on his own, that he decided to use Kaido's flames instead

So if Luffy never ate actually ate the gum gum fruit do you think it’s possible that there is real devil fruit that oda will introduce that is actually the gum gum fruit and the person who ate it is a paramecia class devil fruit user with the power of rubber?

I got a bit of a theory: Awakenings occur when the user is closest to death.
Luffy: Was bonked way too hard by Kaido, which resulted in the Hito-Hito no Mi’s awakening. At no point before was Luffy genuinely dying, even when he was poisoned by Magellan.
Law: Nearly died on several occasions fighting Doflamingo, which only awakened after the fight was over.
Kid: Was also bonked hard by Kaido.
Doflamingo: I dunno, he choked on his pizza one day? Can’t remember a time when Doflamingo was so close to death.
Katakuri: He tries to keep Big Mom’s hunger pangs in check to protect his family, so it’s not a stretch to say Big Mom nearly killed him a fair few times before his Devil Fruit awoke.
However, if a user dies before their Devil Fruit can awaken, then it doesn’t count, like with Ace, Brook and Monet. Can’t awaken your Devil Fruit if you’re already dead. The only exception to this is Luffy, who has the life energy and stamina of Nika and can now survive Kaido’s attack. Think it holds any water?

I completely agree with you... Luffy is already a goofy character 99% of the time, so when HE becomes serious you know things are REALLY bad and tense. I really dislike all the laughing during the fight from the last 2 chapters. I don't mind the goofy fighting style but the laughing is really bothering me. And I still can't get over the fact that Luffy needed a SPECIFIC devil fruit in order to become Joyboy. So if he eats any other fruit he's not able to become pirate king and defeat the WG? If it gets confirmed that the straw hat was originally from the original Joyboy and that Imu is this universe's version of Kaguya from Naruto I'm done with One Piece.

I reckon Luffy is going to find a way to 'devolve' Kaido back into a Koi fish and trap him that way permanently, thus not killing him but essentially killing the future threat he might pose. Then he can live in the fish tank on the Sunny as a form of punishment

I also noticed when Luffy’s head burst through the roof only the people connected to him had their eyes pop out, everyone else had their eyes bulge in normal fashion for one piece
3:17 you've heard this here first: oda is lingering so much on the "eyes popping out" thingy because it's relevant to the story. If you don't focus as much to the eyes itself but on the empty eye sockets... what do you get?! That's exaclty Zunisha's "eyes". This will come back in the general explaination of what happened with zunisha's punishment and the overall story of the void century and why joy boy failed.

The new form is awesome and the usage is amazing! There is just one thing that I’m a bit on the fence about. The power and name revelations of fruits.
When they eat a fruit they know that will give them powers, but they don't know what their skill will be (ex. everyone wish to eat the Mizu Mizu no Mi, but they find out that they ate something else). After they ate the devil fruit they find out what is their new power. They will know the name after seeing the power.
So when Luffy ate his devil fruit (which had a cover name of the Gomu Gomu no mi) shouldn’t that have revealed the fruit’s true name and nature to him originally?

Luffy’s power was originally thought to be a paramecia type but now we learn it’s a mythical zoan? By that definition someone like Katakuri can just say their own powers are paramecia or logia because of how he feels about it, rather than learning the nature of the fruit once it’s eaten.

With this new revelation of Luffy’s fruit nature it feels like Oda dictates what everything is while everyone in One Piece world has to determine what makes a fruit THAT kind of fruit. Like how we in real life continue flipping back and forth on if Pluto is a planet or not.
After reading this chapter and learning more about luffy's fruit... So I've come to the conclusion that Enel's fruit might also be a mythical zoan probably some Lighthing god zoan... Remember Enel had that strange luffy like lightning god transformation at the end of the arc and that transformation is definitely more of a zoan thing as we just learned in the recent chapters....
So yes Enel is probably a mythical zoan not a logia...

Not at all, Robin knew of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit because it is an infamous devil fruit, it's certainly in the book of known devil Fruits if it turns anyone who eats it into an 800 mil bounty and probably has a picture too. Nobody wants or cares about the "gum-gum" fruit, so it's easier to pretend it's in a different class

What I really like in this chapter that Kaido showed his experience. And he is 38 years older and at least 3 decades more of combat experience.
He is the strongest creature for a reason.
Even at the last chapter the reason he wasnt shocked because he seen this sh*t several times. If youa re the strongest Luffys power is already a memory... Sugars, Giolla are the most abstract powers, but since he possibly fought against Tsuru and her wash-wash fruit... Yeah... a reality bending rubber boy is nothing too absurd.
I LOVED the scene where he said:
"your power doesnt make sense. You clearly awakened, but only zoans transform with awakening..."
I really wonder if Kaido will be defeated... His combat expertise and wisdom is not something you can ignore.

Even then your logic is kinda half baked. Not every manga reader does what I do which is wake up at 5am to read the scans. Imagine you’re working or have family or whatever and didn’t have the time to read it yet only to have the latest chapter spoiled for you.
While I definitely find the chapter funny, got to be honest I’ve pretty much checked out of the fight in terms of caring. Problem is, Luffy can seemingly do anything that Oda thinks of/wants him to now which…honestly isn’t entertaining from a fight point of view - especially because it’s somewhat taken away some of my enjoyment of the funny moments
OK!!! I am sure luffy hasn't awakened yet bcz if it was a awakening he would stay in that form but he didnt he become normal after some time!!! ( Super exhausted ) he is able to use those different abilities as he used his fruit wrong that's why its gear 5 not awakening he is yet to fight many people!!! He said himself it is gear 5, he is well aware what awakening actually is!!!

It’s clearly more of a “new transformation stamina issue” trait. We haven’t really seen any Zoans awaken for the first time, but I am guessing it’s like this for all of them: first few times are just too intense to keep the form up.
Hell, when Law and Kid used their awakenings vs Big Mom, both got ultra exhausted

What was also crazy about Luffy making all his friends cartoon eye pop because all the Beast Pirates who saw him the panel before were just normal One Piece eye popping! So, it would basically indicate to me that Luffy is somewhat controlling who he is affecting and who he's not!
