I remember ripping down like 10 posters throughout town because it was obvious how Kony was a scam. Someone even fucking spray painted it onto a stop sign so I was just sick of seeing it. Then 2 friends of mine lost their minds when they found out I did that and said I had no soul and wouldn't talk to me for days. Then once the dude was caught jackin it in the streets and everything turned out to be a sham I've never felt so smug in my life.
Do you still feel super smug, now that it turned he never jacked it, despite having a mental breakdown and the whole thing was an earnest effort by a somewhat flamboyant guy?
In High School, my Modern World Conflicts teacher was one of the heads of Invisible Children and the cocreator of KONY 2012. Wicked cool guy. When we discussed it in class I told him a RUclipsr I like made a video about it when I was younger. He asked me to email it to him. The following week I asked if he watched it and he responds with "That wasn't my favorite video on the internet"
okay i did like the laziest research possible, and i found that the US government actually did everything in the power to try and stop Kony in 2010, passing the 'Lord's Resistance Army Disarmament and Northern Uganda Recovery Act' and even sending soldiers into central africa to help deal with him. So this "charity" was already weird because they told people that nothing was being done about him despite the fact that the president at the time rammed through a bill and sent soldiers. I have yet to find anything that supports my previous statements however

It was painfully naive, sure, in that every single person in the West could know that Kony is a bad man but it wouldn't make a lick of a difference. If your definition of a scam, however, is a venture that doesn't achieve its goal (which is purely arbitrary and flies in the face of an actual scam), then every charity for Africa is a scam. They all throw up a big stink over some kind of heart wrenching inhumanity somewhere on that continent, make a bunch of cash, pocket some and invest the rest in their naive salvation program only to make no difference at all.
