Richard realized fairly early on that the interviewer isn't capable of understanding his humour and stopped trying because it confused her and slowed things down. Bummer.
I love this interview :) you can tell he was really happy and proud of his movie! The way his face lights up talking about it is so sweet and I’ve rarely seen him smile this much in an interview
"Generally, I like to just say the whole scene in front of them and say, 'Do it exactly like that and don't screw it up and GO!' That's generally... that's what I do and I think they find that helpful, I think they find that supportive. and uh it's a bit intimidating once I've acted it out, but you set the bar there and just hope they can reach it." WHY WASN'T SHE CRACKING UP-- THAT WAS FUCKING HILARIOUS!!!!!
He's so sarcastic, but it's incredibly endearing. And he's so cute I'd be fighting the urge to take off his glasses and hug him. As well as a few other things that I'm too polite to mention in a public forum...
I just LOVE the bit at the beginning where he makes a joke about not understanding what 'sleeper hit' means, and she just HAS to define it for him... and he's like, 'ok...ok...ok..ok'... y'know, they probably should have sent a woman with a sense of humour to interview a comedian...
God I love Richard, I watched this interview for the first time a couple of weeks before a mock job interview at school, when I was asked how my friends would describe me I actually said "virile" thinking it meant energetic and fun. Needless to say, I was pretty damn embarassed when she told me what it actually meant. So thank you Richard for accidentally causing me one of the most embarrasing moments of my entire life
This man reminds me SO much of my little brother! It's alarming and adorable at the same time, they look the same, they talk the same, they think the same... Boy, that really is something!
There are a good amount of Americans who can appreciate dry, sarcastic and witty humor of the British. Stop slagging us off. Not all of us are complete morons. It hurts to watch these interviews... And how do you know the person who is interviewing is American? It's at the Toronto Film Festival and I have plenty of friends who are Canadian who do not have a single hint of an accent. Richard is fantastic. I can't wait to get the chance to see his film. I plan to see great things from him.
“What were you like as a teenager?” “Very virile, primarily... Sort of almost dangerously virile… that was the lasting impression I think everyone had. And a liar, also…”
@rowanimize his humor is so hilariously dry and sarcastic you HAVE to have a keen sense of humor to get it. I love that he has to act it out for them and it sets the bar! lol..........so hilarious! I bet she didn't get the movie OR The IT Crowd! haha......ahem and I'm American
I'd say you're right. The thing about Brit jokes is you're supposed to be bright enough to get it without the thing having to be flagged up with a comedy "This is a joke" voice. It's assumed you're smart enough to know the guy doing the joke is smart enough to know you won't take him seriously.
British humour and gentle sarcasm is just lost on this woman ! of course he knows what a sleeper hit it... he was making a joke. Americans really do miss the joke if they don't have it signposted for them with canned laughter. welldone to richard
His humour is hilarious, she clearly doesn't get it and therefore makes him seem an awkward interviewee when he's actually just poking fun and being a bit geeky!
Yep, and it's pretty fun to do it. I know a Yorkshireman who works in a Brit theme bar in Greece and he's as dry as a bone, when customers talk to him he is ripping it out of them and they don't even know it.
The Watch was a disaster for Richard and Ben - and their fans. Fortunately it does not appear to have harmed Richard's career. We need him too much to have that happen. I wish him a long, successful and happy life.
Its so sad that he was interviewed by these people who don't understand his humour/ British humour! Most of his interviews from TIFF were done by people who took him far too seriously. Its Richard Ayoade!
"you guys quit sending over lame fuckers" That is American TV networks, fault they hire comedians that they think will be popular with an American audience. You just need American Networks to air more English Comedies not for English Comedians to go to USA as this will put them in more shit like The Watch.

I love how his humour is completely lost over the pond. What a legend he is!
It's not lost on all of us... some of us are massive fans.
i love how his self deprecating humour is totally lost on american hosts. he is so sweet and gorgeous
gosushigo97 Canadian
i love how she actually explained sleeper hit to him, when he clearly knew what it meant
wow.
No she was reassuring him, don’t be cynical

He's the coolest man on earth
He's so sarcastic, but it's incredibly endearing. And he's so cute I'd be fighting the urge to take off his glasses and hug him. As well as a few other things that I'm too polite to mention in a public forum...
God almighty, he is so cute!

This man reminds me SO much of my little brother! It's alarming and adorable at the same time, they look the same, they talk the same, they think the same... Boy, that really is something!

His voice is like butter.

He's too real for an interview
British humour and gentle sarcasm is just lost on this woman ! of course he knows what a sleeper hit it... he was making a joke. Americans really do miss the joke if they don't have it signposted for them with canned laughter. welldone to richard
Richard ayoade es un chico muy guapo
Love it how he she didn't realise he wasn't being completly serious!
His humour is hilarious, she clearly doesn't get it and therefore makes him seem an awkward interviewee when he's actually just poking fun and being a bit geeky!
Me estoy gustando este chico guapo
Awesome chair!
I thought he would be a lot different to Moss, but there are a number of similarities.
He's going to be in Nighttime Watch, with Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill. This movie will be awesome.
He's wonderful ^^
Its like watching Stephen Merch being interviewed. Nobody gets their genius.

Yep, and it's pretty fun to do it. I know a Yorkshireman who works in a Brit theme bar in Greece and he's as dry as a bone, when customers talk to him he is ripping it out of them and they don't even know it.

Anyone else think Richard Ayoade and Taika Waititi should do a project together?

Lack of crossfeed hurts my ears :(
@s3xytig3r1995 i know right!
the only reason billy connolly and russell is over there is because US accepted them, if they were ignored they wouldn't be there.
He's cute, in a odd way!

He keeps looking down.
