with Marina Viksnina, who shows off the string-laden baroque instrument from eastern Europe. Find us on facebook: / thestringdom Recorded in Kiev, May 2017.
My Ukrainian great grandma would love this I really love these vids. I’m amazed at the full range of instruments you have displayed in your series. I can’t believe you found a torban player!
Je suis un brésilien. Je viens à ce video parce que le torbán est cité au livre Guerre et Paix du génial Tolstói. Pour ça j'ai encontré ce video dans ma recherche. Trop interessant!
complex and sophisticate instrument, i cannot imagine i want to tune it... but i am not really a musician either. I just suffer from good/perfect hearing 🙂 this instrument has one bad string. - but otherwise beautiful to listen to, until voices drown it out. may the ukrainian traditions never be erradicated by anyone.
She sings really well, but damn do I hate vibrato. It's a really interesting instrument. I sometimes play a renaissance lute, which shares some similarities like the bass strings, but that bottom part is quite interesting.
CapnTates yes it looks a lot like some lutes and theorbos. Still hunting around for a friendly lutenist in England to chat to about the similarities and differences!
I love her. James, Jimmy, Jimbo... do me a solid, yo... hook me up with Maria. I'd like to show her how to play my "unwieldy instrument". Eh? Eh? HIGH FIVE!
I wasn't expecting an operetic voice of that magnitude!! Holy shit!!! 😮

Owen Wardlaw thanks for watching! And yes it was a surprise for me that we could track one down! Stay tuned for much more to come 🙂
Incredible voice. I never heard one in such a good condition, tuned properly in the capable hands.
This channel is gold! Glad I found it
I'm glad you're watching! Please share with anyone you think might like it! :)

It's sound is a balance between mellow and icy. I love it.
When she talked: OK ...
When she started to sing: Oh my Lord ...
It's like a slightly more portable theorbo!
There were smaller archlutes before theorbos
Saludos gran instrumento
2:51 It's tuned to Open G. Some players tune it like a Baroque Lute in Open D Minor but w/ Super Trebles.
it's like they were going to build the lute and then they just kept going.
Дуже гарний інструмент.
What’s the tuning on the Torban?
Does anyone know a name for the English tune she plays around 6:12?
Something irish
Thats a nice guitar

I'm here because of Dragon Quest VII
Torban of Truth!
Same. I recorded that scene for a ringtone/alarm. Love it.
Please, tell about Russian 7-string guitar and Japaniese samisan.
Дайте мені Торбан)
Sounds a bit asian and looks like a few of the their instruments as well.
