I have a friend who lives in Manhattan. She told me that she loved to meditate in the park across the street from the court house. One day she became very upset as the ppl were littering the park & cussing, so she spoke out about it. A park worker came over to her & told her that she was right in doing so. She pointed to the court house & told my friend that the park used to be a burial ground full of OUR women & children. The white women who worked in the court house building were unable to conceive or carry a child full term and they believed their misfortune had something to do with those dead bodies. As a result, the bodies were dug up & relocated to Africa & the great Al Sharpton had a big hand in that. Once it became a mark, the white women begin to have babies.

So I am familiar with the entire area, Logan Sq., Washington Sq (Congo Park,), Center Sq, Rittenhouse Sq., & Franklin Sq. Sat in these parks often, but never knew their history. There is also a place across from St. George’s Methodist Episcopal Church that Richard Allen & the enslaved attended, b4 he founded Mother Bethel. They all had to sit in the upper balcony at St. George’s Methodist Episcopal Church & were not permitted to sit on the lower level designated for whites. In any event the remains of an auction block are across the street from St. George’s Church. Every year, when I taught, I would always take my students on field trips to all the historically marked locations in center city. Much history here they’d love to hide and have been quite successful in doing so. It is not & has never been the City of Brotherly Love. Blacks could not ride the trolley cars when my folks migrated here from the South. Thanks for the video/info. Are you aware of the first White House in center city that Washington, Adams & 9 slaves lived in? The city had planned to construct a parking lot, were actually digging & discovered several bodies. Attorney Michael Coard & others protested, & today, it is a memorial with pictures of the 9 slaves posted on the perimeter of the site. It is located on Independence Mall, Visitors are permitted to walk through the first floor with live videos enacting what life was like for the enslaved persons. I always told my students about Onie Judge and Hercules, the chef who escaped from their bondage there. Tours are free. Names of African tribes are listed and a place for solemn reflection.
