- For a pillow to last longer, it needs a pillowcase. Oddly enough, pillowcases, like any clothing, have different models and can turn any pillow into an interesting element of the interior. They come with buttons, wraparound, zippers, and ties.
Sewing a pillowcase is not at all difficult, this is just a good reason to practice sewing.
To sew the simplest pillowcase, you need to measure the pillow and add 1-2 cm on all sides for the freedom of fit. Also add fabric for the smell.
Recently, the most common pillow size is 50x70 cm; almost all sets come with these dimensions.
For such a pillow I will sew a beautiful pillowcase with an unusual decor that makes the pillow look royal. I saw this model in a Turkish hotel and wanted one for myself.
Master Class.
For sewing I took calico. My fabric is 220 cm wide, so I cut it to this length.
1. I needed a size of 60x185 cm. All allowances have already been taken into account here. For the inserts I took plain calico 14 x 60 cm. I folded these strips and ironed them along the long side, then made them a little narrower.
2. Half-folded the fabric on both sides, stitched where it was 60 cm.
3. From one edge I marked 65 and 75 cm. I ironed the fabric along these marks.
4. I applied the folded strip to the 65 cm strip, made a small fold on the pillowcase, about 1 cm, and inserted the strip inside. I did the same where 75 cm.
The fold of the blue stripes looks at the edge from which 65 and 75 cm were marked.
5. I laid lines on top. As a result, the open edge of the blue stripes are inside the small folds.
6. I folded both edges of the pillowcase, marking 45 cm, to create a scent through which the pillow will be threaded. I stitched the edges.
7. I turned the pillowcase inside out. I marked 5 cm on all 4 sides and stitched.
This decorative border is simply called “ears”.
