No matter what you do in the Armed Forces, you make your country proud. You have the strength to do things many are not willing to do. You all are heroes because you choose to make sacrifices even to those who do not care about you. I salute you, and I also salute the Navy SEALs!
Had someone whom graduated from my highschool last year go off to the Naval Academy and went through basic in Aug. and was selected to go to phase one of SEAL training. was shipped off Thursday at 0700.
Worked with both Seals and Force Recon during Desert Storm. Spent 2 years at SBU26 in Panama. Seals are the best hands down for MOST missions. Worked at USSOUTHCOM with JSOC and Seals were called out on the toughest missions. NUFF SAID.
you can say what you want. I'm a sailor who has seen the deckplates, have painted the rusted ship, and have mopped the decks. This waterdown navy is the reason i put myself up for the challenge, if you ever need real motivation...think about what you have to go back to. Hats off to all special forces, but each specialize in a certain area.
agreed. they don't just take your average laundry washer and say "hey you're going to BUD/s, don't screw up". the men going to BUD/s are in good, if not great shape. it takes a strong minded, strong willed team player to make it through.
the SAS and the whole world know the SEALs and their SOCOM and JSOC brothers are the Best of the best, i just started high school and need 4 more years before i can try out for BUD/s, i pray that they will come, thanks to SEALs and the US Military for protecting us
I agree with everything you said. However Do you think the Green Beret are better than Marine force recon? There are many more of them out in Afghanistan than Berets I'm sure.
The Navy Seals are a special forces group. They are the baddest soldgers you will ever see. To be a Seal, you have to go through training that the gods cant even handle. To be a Seal means you are one of the most dangeres people alive, and one of the best soldgers in the military. Not anyone can just become one.
No, Everything an elite soldier does is done like that for a reason. In this case, they bring their weapons vertical to keep anyone who might run around them from getting shot. Also, if they point it down it is not as easy to reload the magazine.
This video only shows you the easy shit seals do. They didn't include the fact that they have to spend hours in tubs filled with ice, swim miles in the ocean, hold their breaths under frozen water for 3 minutes, and run miles carrying 200lbs of equipment.
Let's not make excuses for incompetence. The USMC higher ups is still waiting for an apology. And from what has occurred so far with such decision making skills, I will highly doubt they get it. It might help a little if some commanders would start following SOP's instead of intuitions, just a thought. Anyways, to all SOF from all branches, Thank you for your grateful service to our nation.
Yeah I've read a bit about the SEALs training in The Lone Survivor, I got the stats on the 2k from wiki. I'm aware that Rangers are highly trained as well. I just wasn't sure on the total number of active Rangers vs SEALs
I have a friend who would make the perfect SEAL, he has tons of discipline, he's the captain of the football team, and treats our practices like boot camp, we're undefeated this year. He's is always working out, even after our practices, he benches 300 pounds. His life goal is to make it as a SEAL, hop he makes it.
@Crizzle789 what I said is that SEALS train fro specific jobs that the Marines do not train for and they train to exist in different environments, such as underwater. Marines do not train for this. Therefore although there training time is not as much as the seals that does not mean their combat effectiveness is less if they were to engage in similar environments.
Think of it as extra "motivation" to keep low and press onward. It really raises the adrenaline knowing that if you quit and get up you will die. Thats why.
True. I am just upset how people are giving no respect to the SAS. Before Iraq the SAS took down the enemy Bombs and there trains. if it was not for them then the war in Iraq would have been harder. I know that the SEALS do it to, but they get glory, the SAS don't, some Americans even say what the SAS done, is what the SEALS done. I respect the SEAL and all Special Forces.
Actually the more preffered weapon of choice is the M4 A1, or the Xm8, if I got that name correct. In some instances they are known to use AK 47's and dress as the enemy but so much of there missions are in secret it's hard to say.
A whole YEAR of training?!?! And that's Live ammunition not blanks I believe. Most other special force boot camps are like 6-8 weeks. Must be enlightening to pass SEAL boot camp.
BTW, before any COD4 kids want to be a seal...you must know.....SEAL TRAINING is extremely difficult: 1. You will set fire alarms off with your sweat. 2. You will vomit foam at least three times. 3. You will dig deep into your childhood to persevere. 4. The first 3 days will make you cry in your sleep. 5. THEY DON'T SHOW REALLY HOW DIFFICULT IT REALLY IS ON TV...
I ran out of typing space...for pedantic commenters, I must say that list includes men with reason's not to become a Navy SEAL and risk being shot at weekly. I lived in "the hood", I've driven US Navy Warships, I've been in battle. US Navy SEALS are the baddest men on the planet (besides SAS). COD4 kids may say SAS sucks but I've seen BOTH outfits in actual combat. They are about equal.
i don't know where the hell you got that information but i know some Seals and also researched them and both sources say it's more around 15-20% pass rate.
I disagree, an American is an American. Just because they are in the military doesn't mean they don't have that rights. Im sure you have heard of the UCMJ. If anything, they have more responsibility and accountability for their actions. And in that incident, they handle that suicide bomb ambush correctly according to the standard operating procedure without taking any of their own casualty, And this is why there was an investigation, a trial, and were found not guilty.
True, however at war games the SAS comes on top. however the SEALS work on land sea and air, the SAS only works on Land and Air. But that is what we got the SBS for. If you see what the SAS can do then you might agree. SAS+SEALS= best in the world.
I totally agree with you. SF selection is rangers, 101st, 82nd, trained fighters and they still have 70 percent fail. SEALs have the laundry guy and deck washer try and wonder why 8 out of 10 fail. im sure BUDs is no joke, but they are glorified. SF has done so much more in the war on terror, but its not reported on.
@askashrub good luck! my brother made it all the way threw buds and tqct training and everything else then they did hearing screening and his ears were not as good as they needed to be so there for he didn't make it but now hes working with sea bees.i would love to snipe for the navy seals but just got to look at the odds of it
Marsoc is 2500 Marines strong and all of them don't do the same job, if anything they are more of a cohesive unit with different tasks, such as MSOSG, MSOB, MSOA, MSOIB, and MSOAG. If you think Marines were always the force to go in wreck house and get out, then maybe you should look into Force Recon in more detail. Force Recon by the way happens to be converted to MSOB. Yes, they can and are qualified to do Direct Action, but that doesn't mean thats all they can do.
i'd give anything to have a look at all the military records they've got on what these guys have been up..just think..so many awesome unbelievable stories that no one will ever know about :-(
I was simply using the KISS method, Keep It Simple Stupid. I too could've used that same argument, Those weren't just "Marines", those were Force Recon. Even then... A good leader doesn't discriminate. They methodically did their job, the convoy suffered no casualty in the urban ambush, they left no one behind. And yet, a commander blames them for an enemy ambush without even an investigation? Simply daft.
@NotoriousShroom I see.. the government should ensure that they won't die easily in a mission. Follow up question: anybody knows the mortality rate of these guys per mission? From what I know they only attack in small number, say 12.
And even after found not guilty for their actions I still see "soldiers" going around trying to ruin the unit's reputation. I bet if that happened to any SF unit, it would have been swept under the rug and those dead civilians would simply be considered collateral damage, end of story.
why is everyone argueing over who is better. It doesn't even really matter. They all fight for the same cause and I'm pretty sure after joint ops they probably sit at the same table and have beers together.
eh...from the looks (looks only cuz idk) our Army BCT is harder we did all that stuff and more minus the shooting from a tower and the boat, but for that we did fire from a moving truck so that neutralizes the boat thing either way, i know its a great feeling to graduate no matter what ur doing in the service
oh man so that mean force recon doesnt exist no more...oh crap i wanted to join them after high school...oh well i guess i will have to try out for MARSOF
its due to UCMJ that soldiers are not innocent until proven guilty. My reference earlier was towards Marines, not FORCE. Yes it may be swept under for SF, but thats what you earn when you have done as much good as they have. The MSOT is like an ODA, and yes as a whole they can do much more, just like if you look at all of the Army spec ops. The Marines are coming up with teams that function like a SF team. When Marines do some real good they will earn their spot in the spec ops community.
Innocent until proven guilty is an American right, unless you are in the military. It sucks, but its the truth. And about mirroring SF, Marines were always the force to go in wreck house and get out as soon as it was possible. Now they are taught a foreign language(like SF), conduct FID,and UW.(both like SF)All things that distinguished SS from everyone else. The new MARSOC pipeline looks like a copy of the ARMY SF course. So i would say them trying to mirror SF is a pretty accurate description.
The first thing i heard was about a Navy Sniper, which obviously means a SEAL. The perception of SEALs is good, and good for them, im not trying to hate on that. Its good for people joining, its just a little different once your in, and you see them compared to others.
So there you have it. If "Soldiers" were in that incident and civilians were killed, it would be alright and swept under the rug. And if it were "Marines" in the same incident, then they get kicked out of the country and their reputations tainted. That my friend is what we called incompetent leadership. And just to let you know, the USMC had always had experience in the spec ops area. They were one of the first if not the first in the US to have special operations forces.
First off there is no more Force Recon, it is MARSOC, and secondly there is not more of them than SF in Afghanistan, and for the record MARSOC was kicked out of country already before, they are on their second try.
For those who talk against my brothers (I'm no SEAL but they are out there to kick ass and save our asses from terror with our knowledge of knowing what's happening) explain why they have killed most HVTs in the war on terror? Everyone here we're all allies and we're all in this shit together. So stfu and let's support each other and remove terrorism. And also nobody will ever what a SEAL looks like, until they can actually become SEALs themselves. Future naval or marine aviator here. Loads M14
@shadowhawk1821 I don't think they'd lie to the public in the situation of requesting jobs. I'm not saying he public isn't lied to because the answer to that is obvious but if they need troops the logical thing would be to do exactly that. Open it up for more oppertunities.
@lesdoyle2000 Again, the conflict isn't/wasn't only for oil. And just to make a few corrections; under 4500 US troops have died in Iraq, and only 30-40% of the 100,000 sad civilian deaths are from Coalition forces.
You must be referring to the accidental house bombing incident.I read an in depth article on it but,you know how the news is.You seem to have alot of insight on this subject so can I ask something? What exactly happens when something like this happens?Do they punish the entire USMC?Is it just like all we did up until the last few years just get cut back.I mean honestly if it was my family killed in that blast I would definetly want the people responsible to get out.I really feel this was is..
@ClachBhalg "Your economy is on the brink of implosion and you are about to become a white minority society." The economic situation during the Great Depression was far worse than it is now, and we still go through it. As for our demographics, whites are speculated to be the majority for the next 50 years. Probably longer assuming there will be more developments regarding illegal immigration. But, that doesn't change anything. All it really means is the population is soaring.
I love people who comment on what it's like out there. You can not understand it unless you live it. Don't belive me, I've just passed bud's and my brother is a navy seal, people it's nothing like you would understand. But hey come out here we need more good fucking people
Do you agree that this was a dangerous area/warzone? Did you know that the Marines was attacked from two different sectors? One from a vehicular suicide bomber, and another side from small arms fire? Do you agree that civilians were unfortunately killed in the crossfire? Yes, people were killed, Yes, this incident happened to Marsoc. Yes, they also return fire when attacked. Now shouldn't a commander wait for a thorough investigation before blaming a unit and kicking them out of the country?
Typical soldier rant. First off Force Recon is back since Marsoc is now up and running. Secondly, Marsoc has about 2500 total marines. The special operators of Marsoc are in small battalion called Marsob. And for the record, Marsoc was kicked out by an Army commander who didn't even investigate to verify if it was the Marines that were at fault. After the investigation, turns out, the Marines were not guilty. We're fighting for the same country, let's not forget that.
Force Recon was there LONG before the overrated green berets came to the country of Iraq, yes, they along with SEALs were in afghan before the marines but NOT IRAQ, watch or read generation kill, it explains most of this clearly.
It's a combination of training and the factors in the situation. Read up on military tactics. If i pick up a rifle and happen to have the high ground, i can shoot a SEAL. SOF soldiers are not bullet-proof, its how they move and how they get the first shot and advantageous terrain. 9 SAS vs 300 is impressive, but they likely had a huge terrain advantage and better weaponry. Not taking a dig at the SAS, they are incredible.
Hell week the toughest? i dont doubt its tough, but they have a 50% pass rate, and thats of people in the Navy, non combatants, people who work on ships, do laundry and mop decks. Selection for SF has about a 40% pass rate, and thats from Rangers, 82nd, 101st grunts alike, people who have somewhat rough training all ready. I dont want to take away from SEALs or the Navy, but realize SEALs are hollywooded out. They are the "cool guys".
LETS LEAVE OUT OF AFGANASTAN . ENOUGH DEAD AND CRIPPLED AMERICAN SOLDIERS.SEPT 11 HAPPENED BECAUSE OF OUR IMMIGRATION POLICIES ,NOT FROM AN ATTACK FROM AFGANASTAN .ENOUGH HELP TO THESE BACKWARD PEOPLES WHO WANT TO LIVE IN THE 12TH CENTURY.
No matter what you do in the Armed Forces, you make your country proud. You have the strength to do things many are not willing to do. You all are heroes because you choose to make sacrifices even to those who do not care about you. I salute you, and I also salute the Navy SEALs!

the SAS and the whole world know the SEALs and their SOCOM and JSOC brothers are the Best of the best, i just started high school and need 4 more years before i can try out for BUD/s, i pray that they will come, thanks to SEALs and the US Military for protecting us
@NotoriousShroom I just finished checking wiki about the operation you mentioned. That was very tragic. Hope it won't happen again
I agree with everything you said. However Do you think the Green Beret are better than Marine force recon? There are many more of them out in Afghanistan than Berets I'm sure.
cool hehe...you must have loads of awesome memories/stories from your time in the Navy!
The Navy Seals are a special forces group.

No, Everything an elite soldier does is done like that for a reason. In this case, they bring their weapons vertical to keep anyone who might run around them from getting shot. Also, if they point it down it is not as easy to reload the magazine.
I like how the Navy makes 90% of their commercials about SEALs when they constitute less than 2% of the Navy. lol
SQT is after BUD/s. you first have to pass BUD/s in order to get to SQT (SEAL qualification training).
This video only shows you the easy shit seals do. They didn't include the fact that they have to spend hours in tubs filled with ice, swim miles in the ocean, hold their breaths under frozen water for 3 minutes, and run miles carrying 200lbs of equipment.

Anyways, to all SOF from all branches, Thank you for your grateful service to our nation.
@bronco590 dropout rate was formerly 90% but pressure was lowered due to more needed troops.
@Quartz91 They're up there, but you'll have to ask the military experts why the SEALs have the toughest.
Yeah I've read a bit about the SEALs training in The Lone Survivor, I got the stats on the 2k from wiki. I'm aware that Rangers are highly trained as well. I just wasn't sure on the total number of active Rangers vs SEALs

They can in some situations. Like grenade range is "hands on"
SEALS BABY!!!
A whole YEAR of training?!?! And that's Live ammunition not blanks I believe. Most other special force boot camps are like 6-8 weeks. Must be enlightening to pass SEAL boot camp.
Not all. Some of the British news broadcasting channels are good. The BBC's probably the best we have to offer.
500 young men only for 2012? are they really this limited number? why? thanks
1 year long SEAL training witha 75% drop out rate!? USAF PJs and CCT are 2 years training with a 90% drop out rate!
BTW, before any COD4 kids want to be a seal...you must know.....SEAL TRAINING is extremely difficult:
I agree!
The SAS would kick their arse!!!!!
SEALS fucked em up! good job boys. Thanks to every soldier who has served since 9/11.
I ran out of typing space...for pedantic commenters, I must say that list includes men with reason's not to become a Navy SEAL and risk being shot at weekly. The first Special Forces team in A-Stan was ODA 555 (Triple Nickle) assisting CIA's JAWBREAKER team with laser targeting.
I totally agree with you. SF selection is rangers, 101st, 82nd, trained fighters and they still have 70 percent fail. SEALs have the laundry guy and deck washer try and wonder why 8 out of 10 fail. im sure BUDs is no joke, but they are glorified. They do alot of missions together alot as well.
Marsoc is 2500 Marines strong and all of them don't do the same job, if anything they are more of a cohesive unit with different tasks, such as MSOSG, MSOB, MSOA, MSOIB, and MSOAG.

Hooyah SEAL's got his ass they are the biggest baddest men on EARTH
i'd give anything to have a look at all the military records they've got on what these guys have been up..just think..so many awesome unbelievable stories that no one will ever know about :-(
as much as you say you don't put anyone down, you sure back the Army more than any other branch. we are all on the same side in the end.
@Crizzle789 probably not since a lot of that training is based outside environments that the Marines would deploy to.
It takes literally a superman in order to become a Navy SEAL.
Superman didn't make the cut
I was simply using the KISS method, Keep It Simple Stupid. I too could've used that same argument, Those weren't just "Marines", those were Force Recon. Even then... A good leader doesn't discriminate. They methodically did their job, the convoy suffered no casualty in the urban ambush, they left no one behind. And yet, a commander blames them for an enemy ambush without even an investigation? Simply daft.
hellweek is probably the toughest training on earth. most likely only rivaled by spetsnaz training
@NotoriousShroom I see.. the government should ensure that they won't die easily in a mission. Follow up question: anybody knows the mortality rate of these guys per mission? From what I know they only attack in small number, say 12.

all this time I thought it was because of the way the word "navy seals" rolls off the tongue. Few know what "seals" stands for.
eh...from the looks (looks only cuz idk) our Army BCT is harder
we did all that stuff and more minus the shooting from a tower and the boat, but for that we did fire from a moving truck so that neutralizes the boat thing
either way, i know its a great feeling to graduate no matter what ur doing in the service
@Crizzle789 seals are mostly used for recon they don't engage unless engaged on and then thr royal marines would over run them thru shock and awe
i only got one thing to say.....wow!
oh man so that mean force recon doesnt exist no more...oh crap i wanted to join them after high school...oh well i guess i will have to try out for MARSOF
@Milkshakman Since when does the news give accurate information?
Wasn't aware of that.

"Some of the toughest training!?"
Try THE toughest training.
You can't really compare the royal marines to SEALS. It was be the SBS.
how do you know
SEAL actually stands for Sea, Earth, Air, and Land. I don't know why they skip the E
wait force recon still exists or what?
@menamesjames what do you mean "sometimes"? IT HAPPENS ONCE DURRING HELL WEEK, YES IT'S A FOR SURE THING.
I wish I was a U.S citizen so I could do this. I did my shit in the Canadian Forces but this seems so much funner
LOL i was gonna post THAT JUST NOW. hahahaha!
First off there is no more Force Recon, it is MARSOC, and secondly there is not more of them than SF in Afghanistan, and for the record MARSOC was kicked out of country already before, they are on their second try.

COOLEST JOB EVER!
My dad was a marine he told me what it is like
why does everybody have to be so competitive about the branches they are there doing the same job
How about the need for more Special Forces because of the unconventional war we are fighting...
Use your head man!
Now shouldn't a commander wait for a thorough investigation before blaming a unit and kicking them out of the country?
navy seals > everything else
@blitkriegboom1994 Navy SEAL training is generally considered the toughest, most intense training regime in the world.
@HXRGuitar im not on about usmc, im on about commandos
Typical soldier rant. First off Force Recon is back since Marsoc is now up and running. Secondly, Marsoc has about 2500 total marines. The special operators of Marsoc are in small battalion called Marsob. And for the record, Marsoc was kicked out by an Army commander who didn't even investigate to verify if it was the Marines that were at fault. After the investigation, turns out, the Marines were not guilty. We're fighting for the same country, let's not forget that.
they just do it like that, some other units just point it down.. nothin special just the way they do it... so they dont flag eachother
Force Recon was there LONG before the overrated green berets came to the country of Iraq, yes, they along with SEALs were in afghan before the marines but NOT IRAQ, watch or read generation kill, it explains most of this clearly.
i have a great life i wouldnt want to put it to waste if i join the army and btw my parents love me more than any other parent out there
It's a combination of training and the factors in the situation.
