I think what they spent on is not really 'value' in the sense of 'materiality'. It is more on the 'community' itself. Normally when you have been living in a place for so long, all your neighbors became part of your family. No amount of money can buy that.
I like the arichitechture lessons that we get along these house reviews. Things that doesn't mean anything to a layman suddenly makes a lot of sense after Sean's explanation.
Many house owners do not understand the difference between a 'nicely' renovated house and 'tastefully' renovated house. It is because unlike older generation who built own house, our younger generation is spoilt (or to be precise, mind-confined) by the so-called 'taman' and 'condo' designed and built by someone else. If we have the budget, any developer or ID can produce us a nicely renovated but bland house. Only if we have our own idea and take time (trouble) to appreciate the process of thinking every details to suit the lifestyle of our family members, then only a house becomes a tastefully renovated home! Don't get me wrong. Starbucks or Coffee Beans coffee is still nice, but they are just bland and uninspiring.
Sean, I really enjoy this episode. Your commentary shows how much wisdom you have in architecture. Appreciate the knowledge sharing. More of this series please!
THANKS for this is interesting review of REFURBISHED home. Looking forward more videos of same. Like your input of 'history & geography' info incorporated into this refurbishment series. It's nice of you to mention that it's Namewee's love for his parents caused him all the hassle to maintain their classic & nostalgic home structure. Keep up your good work. Be BLESSED Always
Watched this namewee house reno. when it first came out. Absolutely admire his passion for his Muar home. Your review is also very informative . Thanks!
Thanks for taking me down memory lane with this video review and "old vs new" discussion. I am really glad that I was able to experience the technological evolution that happened between the 70's to 2020's (from tv to netflix, housephone to mobile devices). However, one of the most interesting major house related technology development that I experienced related to the toilet technology. An old house toilet that literally required me to sh*t into a big cointainer below. When the cointainer is nearly full, you pay someone to physically offload it. Last time no IWK yet.
Hi Sean, can you do a video talking about using EPF to finance or partially finance your first home. Especially the calculation, I often get confused on the many ways people use EPF to buy property. Can use as deposit la, can use to pay monthly installment la, can use to fully redeem la. Would appreciate it if you could break it down, give some examples, and give some advice on using this tool. Keep up the good work. Sorry a bit out of topic ah Thank you
I doubt people will sponsor the structural items like bricks and concrete. Even if he's sponsored, it's purely based on his skillset and ability to deserve them. Win-win for both party. How I wish I will have sponsors for my house:( hahahahahaha!!
And after this recent great flood in Malaysia, I actually accidentally came across Kaohsiung flood video clips. And it seems quite a number of Taiwanese netizens were telling something about Thailand architecture thing house building structure that the Siamese actually build land property house with ground floor just building structural poles, 1st floor is actually a car porch, the 2nd floor will only be their residential area for human living and activities!
That's pretty similar to our rumah Kampung concept, to have voids under the house that serves as a barrier to any form of floods and wild animals. Well, that definitely adds cost to our existing landed house but it solves the flood problem
Love this video. This is an example of renovation for one's own satisfaction as opposed to renovating as an investment. Sean - this series could be the 'Grand Designs' of malaysia.
Actually, a lot of houses would have undergone renovation many times compared to the original house when they bought back in the 60's/70's/80's etc. It could be a sign of different trends, lifestyle and preferences.
Namawee’s house remind me to my grandma house. I love the way he maintained the heritage and culture in his house. If I have enough money haaa I will do the same🤭
18:26 in the UK, it’s quite common to have design like this where they call it dado rail (at this level) and have wall panelling below and different wall finishes above.
You will need local council consent too, as gating up would mean closing off some public roads. These roads could be important in terms of access for emergencies as well.
smart home is a gimmick for now, so expensive to maintain the system. if the product company gulung tikar good luck to get support and require to get replacement.
I will be looking forward to more episodes from this series. As much as I love watching your property review, review on other ppl's property is more exciting... cos there is no show unit / sales to see it ;p
Some times I wonder why Malaysia road maintenance don't scrap off the original asphalt layer before they repaved the road, just to maintain the original level design. This is so important for storm water drainage design and how it ties into existing infrastructure masterplanning.
I am sure it is easy in short term, but more costly and wrong in term of civil engineering. It is like killing or back tracking the original long term stormwater engineered masterplanning, when the purpose of master planning is that you design it right in the beginning and stick to it so that you save money in long term.
iherng, for next video... mungkin boleh review renovation rumah² teres dan rumah kedai di Singapore yang design superb awesome and comfortable affordable for sample for Malaysian 👍

Anyway, I doubt about smart homes though I'm not a really old person after the recent great flood of Malaysia... because during flood, you will have no electricity no matter how 'canggih' is your house... and even water supply is being stopped during flood due to infrastructure damages... Sometimes I think old stuffs really good since I'm prone to prickly heat rash and also hypothermia (that's why I don't really on aircond everyday unless it's heat waves in Malaysia)... Sometimes everything turns into electronic kinda get my nerves... a mechanical really antique timer is wayyyyyyy louder than a Casio timer which often dies off due to battery lost or the electronic component wear out and the mechanical antique winding timer is sooooo loud that's why you will be like so alert when it rangs XD because it is basically rang your whole kampung XD And also Perodua and most of the car manufacturers' going for automated-transmission and taking off manual transmission gear cars and recently only to know that Axia 1.0 E is a very very very basic new manual car that is still in production... kinda pity
Hello there i love watching your property videos. We are relocating to Malaysia from the states and we plan to visit this summer. We are looking at purchasing a property and would love to get in touch with you So we could get some insight. We love the Mont Kiara region.
I always tell those ppl who spend 1mil on renovation, whatever you do it’s subjective. What you suka is not what other ppl suka so we cannot value 100% of cost in. So find a valuer who have same taste as you 😄 because value estimate is just justifiable opinion. Love this series super entertaining.
Classic lah... Profit margin "klok" hahahah.... Did I spelled that right?. By the way the green turquoise is intoxicating. Did you notice you are also using a turquoise earphones...

Stratified? Just call it by its normal name : guarded & gated. And at 20:58, you don't say the cupboard sticks to the wall. The correct term is flushed to the wall. Learn some proper terms if you want to show you are an expert in this field 😉
Well gated and guarded can be individual title too. Well I don't prefer using flushed, termination, and other jargons just to show off I'm an 'expert'. What's the point of using if people don't understand. Thanks for watching 😁

His house has so many sponsors collaborating. God knows how much it really cost him if he really fork out all by himself.

Sentimental Value to the owner. When got enough funds, bolehlah. Locality and neighbourhood also plays a role.
Exactly!! With enough funds only sentimental value can come in:)
So many golden nuggets in just this one video, especially for those looking to renovate. Great video!!!

I've seen electric cables bolted into landed houses. Wonder if the house owner gets any sort of compensation or rental from the govt though.

Nice reaction bro, u saw many thing in so detail, I can know that u are super experienced in renovation work. Good jobb!!
Namewee has lots of sponsors so save alot. All he as to do is made a video and acknowledged the sponsors. Also giving free advertising for them.
question, whats stopping individual title land to NOT gate up the whole community/taman?
You need consent from all residents before you can gate up as they will be paying for it, so not everyone wants to pay.
Great question KJ:)
You will need local council consent too, as gating up would mean closing off some public roads. These roads could be important in terms of access for emergencies as well.
