    I bought hantek dso5102p (similar to this scope) and I'm really happy about it ;)
    I think it's a great scope offered for this price and a lot of functionalities.

      I have one as well and so far very happy with it. It is half the price of the Rigol, so I would think it wouldn't be as good in some ways, but for the money it really can't be beat. Good scope.

      @hvince67 6 лет назад +1

      Me too. The dso5102p is great scope. I do mostly audio projects, so if it overshoots at 100Mhz, I absolutely do not care.

    • @cmj20002
      @cmj20002 6 лет назад +2

      As he said it can be hacked up to 200mhz, so it is the best deal in scopes. I paid $210 US for mine and I doubt I could get a Rigol for that price, never mind Agilent, Keysight or Tektronics. They are all expensive.

      Additionally DSO5102 costs about $150-200 USD.

    Am I the only one that was screaming at the screen when Dave wasn't reading the red popup saying that the alternative trigger wasn't supported at that memory depth?

    It seems almost as if Dave didn't want to like… so he didn't ;}. Anyway, thank you for convincing me to not to buy Rigol ;} - this “cheapo” will be quite enough for me and the amount of whining seals the deal ;}

    As this review is over 5 years old it would be interesting to see an update from Dave for the Hantek DSO5120P. The only real issue I see for entry level users use (forget firmware lockups at time of video and personal favoured use patterns) is the overshoot and totally agree that we should trust our measuring devices, however those in the field will know when not to from experience, it's only our novices that may fall foul, oh and for aliasing too. This video and various comments left here have convinced me that the 5120P is actually a no brainer for hobbiests when comparing against the Rigol £100 cost difference. I guess it's all about cost vs use, if you're using a scope for business daily then go Rigol and splash the cash, but if you're a have a go DIY'er with sporadic usage....it's gotta make ROI sense!

  • @gglovato

    I re-watched the video and tested for holdoff crashing as Dave experienced. My scope is identical HW and SW version and for me the holdoff time simply rolls over. No crash.
    If you look at the XY mode portion of the vid you will notice the XY display was working correctly. Dave had not connected a channel 2 signal. you can see the magenta horizontal line on the X axis of the graph.
    I think it is fair to say people should not read too much into Dave's conclusion. If he had RTFM things might change

    Got this sucker for 180usd new! 200mhz "hack" comes predone from factory nowadays. Not a bad deal, even in 2020. Can't at all relate to the problems Dave had, theres a context sensitive manual on the device itself (help button), even if the wording is sometimes a little bit chenglishy, it still helps a ton.

    I've got this scope for Basic repairs/refurbs etc and very happy. Never crashed and for the price I would recommend it. Not for Pros of course but for your hobbyist etc great value. It's small, light and silent and great for carrying around.

  • @avss01
    @avss01 11 лет назад +20

    Dave, with all due respect, I think you should at least read the manual if you intend to do any kind of review of an instrument, I even if it is intended as a light weight review. Watching you bumble around with the features is not informative, unlike 99% of your vids which most definitely are! Every instrument at least deserves the operator to know how to use it and get the most out of it even if it is a low cost unit. Remember we can't all afford the perfect stuff.

    • @Fezz21
      @Fezz21 4 года назад +2

      "Remember we can't all afford the perfect stuff", i think this is something he keeps forgetting even in his newer videos too. Look i totally get that really expensive tools show their value when they are in use (i am talking about features, accuracy, etc...), especially when it comes to measurement tools. I just think Dave keeps forgetting that there is definitely a "bang for buck" model that needs to be very important when it comes down to buying anything, especially when it comes to people that don't have that luxury of spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on tools. And even in the more current videos he seems to think everyone is willing to spend hundreds and thousands of dollars for things that are not really applicable to everyone, especially hobbyist (which is what i am). I don't mind my scoop being slightly middle to low rang if it is cheaper (i dont really build things to complicated).

    No. Watch the video again. The scope had bad pulse response, bad trigger, it locked up, and it was slow. 4 bad things that I saw and documented on video. The scope I had clearly sucked, so my conclusion based on those facts was spot on.

  • @EEVblog
    @EEVblog  11 лет назад

    Err, it's a 50ohm source and cable terminated properly in 50ohms, there is no "probe compensation" here. To be fair I did the lengthy internal calibration but got the same result. The Agilent is 500MHz bandwidth, 2.5X the best of the others, so you expect to see greater signal fidelity or a small 50ohm termination mismatch issue on it.

  • @EEVblog
    @EEVblog  11 лет назад +3

    I think first impressions of a bit of general purpose test equipment are important. If and experienced person can't pick it up and use it intuitively as they expect, then it's not well designed.

  • @RobB_VK6ES
    @RobB_VK6ES 11 лет назад +1

    Dave, without wishing to be a smart arse but given the Agilent also showed some overshoot as well I am thinking probe compensation may be needing ajustment.
    I can appreciate the logic of doing these reviews blind without reading the manual but I think it is a little unfair to expect every unit to operate exactly as you expect.
    It may be a cheap scope but it certainly is not junk. 200 odd pages in the forum would tend to suggest there are others who do not think it is junk either

    I have a Hantek, I am quite pleased with it so far, but I'm no expert. Anyway, Hantek is making scopes for other companies to rebrand, so it is logical to assume them keeping the good ones and selling the sub-standard parts to others. I think one should review Hantek equipment in order to make a correct opinion. Tek were buying CRT's from their competitor at their beginnings and "they knew they received bad CRT's".

Everything else: clunk-clunk, freeze, signal fidelity compromise, weird 2-4-8 ratios... SDS7102 to my eye looks faster in 10 Mpoint mode than Tekway in 40k mode.

    • @NGC1433

      What bang? I can not imagine how will it ROI that money. Who needs 4 channels?

    • @AlexandreKandalintsev
      @AlexandreKandalintsev 8 лет назад

      Everyone who wants to observe more than two signals or who wants to have two differential inputs needs four channels. Don't forget all probes have ground wires connected together (they are not isolated), in many times you cannot just connect probes in arbitrary places of the board.

    • @NGC1433
      @NGC1433 8 лет назад

      Alexandre Kandalintsev
      This is not an answer to my question. What if they need to observe 8 channels then? Or 32? This is a review of a cheap chinese instrument, I'll remind. And person you answered to noted their budget. You advised to buy something more than twice the budget without giving any reason except "bang for the buck"

    • @AlexandreKandalintsev
      @AlexandreKandalintsev 8 лет назад

      NGC1433
      Hantek is not twice cheaper, it's 250 vs 330 euro. Concerning the channels, I already told you. I agree with Dave, four channels are quite useful. You may have different opinion, but it's silly to convince others how many channels they need. I often need three channels, for example, don't tell me that "two channels is enough".
      Anyway, I'm just giving my advice (as you do), do not claim that your advice is better than mine. I provided my argumentation, please do not argue just to argue.

      The Darkside Die Frage kommt zuruck- was fuer ein Budget haben Sie? Fur $360, werde ich gern den DSO5062 kaufen- damit kommt ein sehr nutzliches Gerat. Viel besser als mein 'analogue' scope. Fur ungefaehr $800 konnen Sie naturlich besser-als-billig bekommen.

    • @herbstleyd9835
      @herbstleyd9835 9 лет назад

      +The Darkside Zwar nen Monat zu spät, aber egal: Ich bin auch Anfänger und habe mir das Hantek DSO5102P bestellt (ist "fast" baugelich mit dem hier vorgestellten Tekway DST1102B mit dem Unterschied das das Hantek 100mhz Bandbreite hat). Ich denke das 260€ für ein 100Mhz Scope wirklich nicht zu viel sind. Und wenn es sich hier und da mal aufhängt ist es halt so. Ich will damit kein Geld verdienen :D Ich werde es nicht im Professionellen Einsatz nutzen, ich will nur lernen. Daher denke ich das so ein Billigscope genau das richtige für uns ist ;)
      Apropos: Tekway/Hantek der Serien DST1xxx(b) und DSO5xxxP/B usw lassen sich ohne großen aufwand "hacken" d.h.: Das man aus einem Gerät das eigentlich nur 60Mhz unterstützt einfach via umbenennen der Firmwaredateien ein 200Mhz Scope bekommen kann ;)
      Wenn ich mir jetzt ein Tektronix oder Agilent für weit über 1000€ kaufe und es dann kaputt mache ärgere ich mich zu tode!!

      Hallo, kein Problem das eine Antwort 1 Monat später gekommen ist.
      Ich gebe Ihnen absolut recht, für 260€ kann mal wohl nichts falsch machen. Wo haben Sie Ihr Gerät gekauft?
      Da mein Englisch leider ungenügend ist, würde mir ein Kauf aus dem Ausland und die Garantie abwicklungen sehr schwer fallen.
      Und wie ich das gelesen habe, kann man bei dem Hantek DSO5102P die Sprache nicht in die deutsche umstellen?
      Ein hacken würde mich nicht wirklich interessieren, da ich mit so einem Gerät und die dort angezeigten Werte eh nicht deuten kann. Das Gerät würde nur zu üben herhalten müssen.
      Das hier getestet Gerät, wird diese vom Tester empfohlen oder eher nicht? Es gibt ja noch Geräte von Rigol, da würde mich aber der laute Lüfter sehr stören und diese sind teurer.

    For the limited range of functionality I use for my hobby stuff, the usability of the Hantek feels somewhat better than those 1600 EUR or so Tektronix 4 channel color screen things, I'm not sure if I'd personally gain anything from buying the Tek. Maybe especially because its writing to flash is horribly slow and I make screenshots all the time :D

    I can't help thinking "cargo cult design" when I see this product. If they just make their product look vaguely reminiscent of their competitor's, vast fortunes will rain upon them!

    Perhaps, I could be wrong, but I think Chinese people are not good at design, they are good at making cheaper, working harder and longer hours, but not when it comes to design. My suggestion for Chinese companies is to hire, people from USA, Europe and Japan for their design team. Because Chinese guys cannot design, sorry.

    I have to agree with the user that noted that this unit has been hacked. and totally all your work is nonsense. how can you put a review on something that has been modified? i do believe that final signal distortion is due to tampering.
