Great video! It's so interesting finding out about property purchases in France. Not that I'm in the market for a French property! I wish! Big hugs xxx
Well done, a great video. Very similar our experience. We love our location and we feel its the best of both worlds. We are in the Vienne and the distance to Saumur, Poitiers and Tour is similar.
Nice, clear, easy to understand video and similar to our experience. Only difference is that we found the "English" agents did try and get more money than the French and were sometimes badly informed on French electrics, fosse septiques etc. Both times we bought they were through French agents .
Really enjoying your videos about buying a property in France. We have just bought a house in France so have had very similar experiences to you, it's brings back all the memories!
Thank you so much for taking the time to produce this series of videos 😀 Have been meaning to ask. Did you buy your home after Brexit? Got a little lost with the timeline in your older videos. Keep up the great content 👍🏻 and have a lovely weekend when it comes
@@LivingintheLoire Ah gotcha! After investigating a move over there, it feels a little more daunting now :( Thank you so much for getting back to me so quickly.
@@LivingintheLoire I'm going to hopefully visit some regions in a few months time. Currently snowing here in Scotland, so a change of scene would be lovely. Take care.
Good question! Brook learnt French up to the age of 16 and Rebecca until 18 however for both of us that was quite a few years ago now! Brook is currently doing online lessons and will do a video about his experiences with that soon.
@@seanadams6328they're certainly very patient with our attempts and appreciative of any effort you make to speak the language. We're going to do a live chat soon so will delve into this in a bit more detail there ☺️
I'm not surprised that it is this region from watching your recent blog. My family has a property in Indre et Loire near Loches (biggest town) and the land and houses look so similar (not even counting the town and chateaux pictures). I don't know how you are able to go food though. The land is so dry and unbelievably hard. We aren't able to dig our garden manually because it's like concrete. I saw so many field of completely dry and burnt sunflowers this year because it was so hot and dry :(
Yes we saw lots of dry fields too. Giving our beds a massive mulch of compost made such a difference! It really helped keep the moisture in. In addition having drip irrigation so it went to the roots and minimised evaporation.
My theory about the amount of land needed is how willing are you to dig a garden with a hand shovel? How many animals do you want? Finally, how many fences are you willing to build? If the answer to any of these is "not many", keep it under an acre (or two). Lol
Hi, we didn't need to get visas because we arrived before the end of 2020. We just had to apply for a residency permit (carte de sejour) once we were here which was very straightforward.
What is your impression of the internet infrastructure in rural france? I am a songwriter, and create stock music for licensing- a decent internet connection is imperative for myself. My wife and i are gearing toward retiring to france in a year or so, and we’d love something close to a village, with a nice garden for her to raise chickens and vegetables.
Very, very variable. We are super rural but have had fibre for the last couple of years. However we know of people closer to larger cities that don't have fibre and only have slow/patchy internet. In that case some people go down the starlink route.
I d recommend large estate agencies not small ,internet cowboys. The bureaucy in France will baffle potential buyers when they get to the notaire stage. Be aware of A and B list prices. Rural property should be very cheap. The French are nt attracted by rural life.
Hi there, we cover this a bit in our 'Why we moved to rural France' video and will also discuss it more in our upcoming live chat. Basically because we could speak a bit of French and it's easily accessible from the UK.

It ended up being mid-Brexit 😂. We bought after Brexit was voted on but before it came into action.

I must say, as a Canadian I find the idea that an hour from the shops is "super rural", let's say "quaint".
