Excellent teacher & nice guy
The best part of this video for me is that now after learning so much from all your other videos, I am slowly seeing the fretboard in a much deeper aspect than ever before. Even just being able to identify the actual notes you’re playing by sight is such a huge thing for me. Something so simple but yet so much of a revelation for me. Your videos are most definitely the best on the net. And I am discovering that watching them as a whole is whole is so important.
Thank you.
Most things are so simple when you don't complicate them. Learning at slow speeds is absolutely incredible for muscle memory and clarity. Thanks, Steve. 3 yrs, now as a Zoomer and loving it just like day 1 at Theory for Life/Masterclass.
There are a lot of great players, but not great teachers. You are rare in that you are both and your thoughtful lessons and explanations make the complex simple. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me and others become better players. Rock on!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the kind words, Dennis! :-)

I just wanted to say how amazing and useful your channel is. Thanks so much for being so generous and sharing your knowledge with us, I mean it
with so many videos on here with 'teachers' that are very patronising its great to find Steve, already learnt and progressing so much! top guy!!
These exercises are short and sweet and should help anyone ...They sure are.helping.me!!!!
I’ve been trying to increase picking speed for years with no progress until I learned to anchor my picking hand on the bridge. Once I did that I was able to properly move my wrist instead of my arm, wrist, and thumb. My speed increased immediately and is improving weekly.
Sir, you are an amazing teacher. Thank you for the invaluable content you make on this channel
Hi. My pleasure! Thank you so much for your comment and kind words. Really glad to know the lessons are helpful. Keep up the great work and any questions please feel free to ask!
You're the Man Steve you deserve tons of respect buddy!!!
Trying to learn the Creeping Death solo up to speed at the moment and came along this. Perfect lol thank you!
Thanks as always!
Steve, I've always been a huge fan of your tutorials and I've been subscribed to GZ for many years however, I ended up doing some time. Guitars were non existent for the past 2 years nor was anything else due to covid. Playing the guitar is not like riding a bicycle. I lost a lot. But thanks to you and your tutorials, I'm getting the feeling and the motivation again to pursue my love... "Metal!" and that I thank you for.
Awesome, Robert! Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing your story! :-)

Hi Ralph. Thanks for your kind words and I'm glad this lesson was helpful. Any questions please feel free to ask.
I owe a good portion of my guitar progression to your exercises. great teacher and super shredder. thank you.
I will be trying these steve cheers
I realized something useful to me: I must reach a certain speed to really start to practice the picking movement that I need, because the forearm/wrist/fingers' movement changes with the speed.
Thanks, Steve!
So glad I found this channel! Thanks Steve!
Your just awesome Steve
I like the content of your videos, but also the presentation. You just seem so much more approachable and egoless than a lot of other guitar teachers on RUclips. I just subscribed and am certain I'll learn a lot from you. Great job!
This helped me a lot!
Thanks Steve for this lesson ! Good exercise to develop speed and to keep the fingers close to the fret board.
You are just incredibly amazing Steve.
Excellent exercise Steve, thanks. Got it going really nicely 👍🎸

love you SS
tq for everything
one of the best video
You are a god
finally, someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
Steve...could you speak to the idea of practicing these exercises on acoustic as well as electric? Thanks!
i feel like a drunk man. Falling over my fingers! Ah ah ah
A great tutorial that actually help me playing solo in my acoustic even tho my guitar strings are far from the fretboard, then i figured out that my acoustic doesn't shows anything that i can able to adjust its trust rod, i just bought it very cheap just so i can practice, maybe one day I'll buy an electric guitar and i think Ibanez, Esp, jackson guitars are looks and sounds great, and I may like the sound of gibson and fender but it may look so old and classical for me but yeah I think im gonna stick what new guitar models where every guitar players buy a guitar nowadays , but this tutorial works fine for me, btw.. What kind of shirt are you wearing? I'm kinda interested, it looks really cool, i hope you'll tell me :D
Great
Wooooh i like your skilll 😍😍😍
i'm new to this channel and enjoy your approach. do you have any instruction on what to do when you hit a speed wall? i am happy to practice these patterns but there is limit to the speed i can play and i have never gotten past it. i've played guitar for years
It's very common to run into this kind of barriers. Use a metronome to figure out your top speed and then push it just a couple of beats. It won't sound as clean as you want it to but stick with the new speed for the time necessary until the notes sound nice and clean. From there raise the metronome once again and repeat the process. Always remember to warm up before you start your practice and keep in mind that not every day will be the same. Some days will be easier and others more difficult but keep it up and things will start to flow. Also try to stay as relaxed as possible and keep the movement of the pick as small as possible. You can also try different size picks as well as different materials. A thicker pick will make it easier than a thin one because the thin pick won't respond as fast as a thicker one. Hope this helps!
Can you re upload this in HD and zoom in his hands pls? i cant see what his hands are doing
I always pick with my thumb
La Machine
Its nice teaching my idol steave,, i request if you do to show the cannon rock, because your fast picking so,i think you can do that's i want to start but i'd like you to show teaching how to do that cannon rock
I guess I'm just an inside picker. I've never done strict alternate really. I just move right into a downstroke on the 4th note and come right back up with an upstroke. But I'm practicing alternate, though it seems an extra movement. (Edit- I typed that before watching the whole video. )
The Paul Gilbert pattern, aka every Buckethead solo...

I try to pick fast to cover the fact that I can't actually pick fast lol
That is a piece of wisdom. I need to catch myself doing that and stop it.
After watching this video I realised that I have been holding my pick wrong for 20 years.
Same
Not to get off point but what effects are you using?please
If there are any effects (other than distortion), I might use just a little delay at around 660ms, and maybe some reverb, but I try to keep them at a minimum, just to fill a little space.
Steve
The hardest thing for all my students is them crossing strings keeping it clean
The Abrams is also outdated so it goes hand in hand, also it needs a whole squadron to keep going I heard, it eats more fuel and this can be a problem, also its never fought in a european theater, but in war anything can happen.

😥 My bad habit is I go down up down on 1 string and again down up down on 2 .......
So frustrating... 😥 it locks me speeding
Yea me too. I gotta really think about it.
I dont use a pick. I didnt when I started on an accoustic and having moved to an electric this has remained the same. Is this something I need to learn?
Checkout matteo mancuso. He uses all his fingers to create extraordinary technique. You could do that!
Down is much harder than up.
The guy does not mention a metronome
While this video was helpful, it was much longer than it had to be.
Thanks for the feedback. Glad the video helped.
