- Banbury & Cheltenham Direct Railway, here we go again! This one needed a couple of retakes, loud traffic noise and technical problems. It was a very enjoyable journey with lots to see, and the one thing I took away, certainly from the older generation of residents. They really would like to see their railway up and running again! Enjoy!
Coming up........THE CHIPPING NORTON LOOP!!...... Stay Tuned!
Absolutely brilliant adventure Ron, I really enjoyed that one. I must try to get to the north portal, it looks a great walk. Thanks, for the effort. Ron
Cheers, Ron. The north portal is a much more impressive structure than the south, and well worth a visit.🙂
Love to see the Cotswolds Highlighted. Thank you
Thanks for watching.🙂👍
A very interesting video. Really enjoyed watching. Really hope you are well and having a great Friday. Many thanks from Chris and Jane 👍👍
Years ago on my first venture outside of London as a tourist I saw the Bliss Mill from the road and was amazed at its architecture...now I know what I saw. Thanks Ron, a great tour of the railway remnants and nice overlays. James
Thank you, James. I had planned, together with some friends, to walk the north end of the tunnel. However, we have had far too much rain this year and there is a lot of water on the track bed and the cutting just outside the portal is flooded. Back on the ‘to do’ list for that one, this year. Ron
I attended Kingham Hill school in the 50,s & we had our"own" station in the valley below on the line to "Chippy" called Sarsden Halt.On one occasion I recall, with others walking along the line to go the tiny cinema at the top of the hill as you came up from the station.Nobody seemed to mind as long as we got off the line just before Chippy station! Imagine that happening today.
That’s a great memory, Paul. Thank you for sharing your story. Nothing left of the railway at Sarsden Halt, but I think it is remembered on the signpost at the junction in Churchill.🙂
Wow, very nice nature, thanks for sharing this video my friend! 💚✨
I worked in the building with the old railway shed in, spent 25 years there when it was cotteswood kitchens, it used to house the big wood cuttter , and store paint in sheds out the back, company went bust in 2020
Thank you for preparing and carrying out a very informative video.
Although I used to live in Hook Norton, I never explored the Chipping Norton tunnel.
However, I think it was in December 1961 I took the train from Chippy to Kingham. I spent all day on Kingham Station, watching the Castle hauled Worcester to Oxford express trains thundering through the Station. I then caught the last train back to Chippy.
Your video has made me put a visit to the Chipping Norton tunnel on the to do list.
Thanks for commenting, Graham. Yes, Chippy Tunnel portals are well worth a visit🙂
beautiful country village nice old tunnel it's very good weather
Really enjoyed watching your lovely video. A big thumbs up from Chris and Jane ✨️👍
Thank you so much 😊
The handicap of the line was that no local passenger service ran from Banbury to Cheltenham St.James. It was mostly a pannier tank with autocoach from Banbury to Kingham and then a change to usually a prairie tank running through to Cheltenham St.James.
Excellent work Ron! I don't know that area very well, so it was good to see such an infomative video about it. Not seen the North Portal on YT before; good to see! Take care, Paul.
Cheers, Paul. Glad you enjoyed the adventure. Take care, Ron
Those old coal wagons in the picture the one with griff on , I work on the site of the former griff colliery in Nuneaton
Wow! What a coincidence, Mate🙂
Banbury to Cheltenham would have been a great diversionary route today, as well as a route for local stations
The folks I spoke to in Chippy would most certainly agree with you, Mate👍🙂
nEW SECURITY usually means it is being used by some authority for nefarious purposes. Like derelict secure units for example.
Where exactly is that strange looking mill you show right at the end ..?
Leave Chipping Norton, on the A44 towards Moreton In Marsh. When you cross the old railway bridge at the bottom of the hill look to your left and you can see the mill chimney in the valley. It’s now a private residence so you can’t walk round, unfortunately🤷♂️
I went there today. Video processing now!. Hopefully it wont fail. Did not want to comment on this, show interest in a dodgy explore until I did it. Not locked up yet. Stable block is nice but not get to like you.
The water in front of that tunnel is absolutely disgusting! Green algae everywhere! 🤮
nice one :) subbed
