      no it's not. i have a vega 56, at stock it easily games literally every game at 4k ultra settings. i flashed bios to 64 and easily get literally over 60 fps on literally every game on 4k ultra settings.

      Literally every game at Ultra 4k? Wow, so its over 2x more powerful than the GTX 1080ti huh... Captain Obvious and I are calling BS on that statement...

      30fps? console like xbox one x and ps4 pro runs many games at 30fps.

    • @CyberianFaux
      @CyberianFaux 6 лет назад +6

      Jake I am also calling BS on your statement since I actually own a 1080ti and run every game on ultra. If I turn off V-sync, which I actually like having on, I average at least 65-75 fps depending on the game. Although, I sometimes choose to run high settings to make sure the lowest fps I get is around 50-55 fps so it is a smoother experience. Regardless of what settings I use on a game I do make sure to disable Anti-aliasing because it ruins performance for no real benefit. I don't doubt he can maintain 60 fps on a MIX of ultra and high with no anti-aliasing or anistrophic filtering on most if not all games.
      Heck, my father plays 4k 30-45 fps on high settings easily on his 1060 3GB. The only issue is that it is not very maintainable since he has to either reduce settings or risk crashing on open world games, such as Just Cause 3, for hitting VRAM limitations so he plans on getting a 1070ti soon and using his 1060 in a build for my little cousins.

    I flashed the Vega 56 to a Liquid Cooled Vega 64 bios and achieved 1725MHz
    Core and 1100mhz stable memory on my Gigabyte Vega 56. Undervolted a to 1150Mv and power consumption is around 250W but the card outperforms my own Reference Vega 64 easily.

    It's always fun to play around with stuff like this, even if it doesn't offer any improvements (and also fun to watch). I like these vids from you. While the flash didn't increase avg fps that much, it did bring up the minimums, which could be even better. I would do it, if i had a Vega56, but doing X-Fire is way too expensive.. as you stated, and just grabbing a 1080Ti would be the smartest route.

    Have you tried reducing your Vega voltages yet? Reduces temps, power consumption which allows higher P states (clocks) before power and thermal throttling knock them down a notch.

      Worked for me! Undervolting the gpu + overclocking the memory gave meg ~15-20% extra (compared to the stock 56). It's almost certain that the flashed Vega 56 was throttling in this review, like mine before the UV. It was running on even lower frequencies than the stock 56.

      dude ignore the ufd noob .. it is very easy and has huge benefits on gaming .. you flash the bios and then use msi afterburner to oc and slightly undervolt .. turn your fans up and core could running depending on your cooling efficiency more than 1600-1640 ! even when it gets hot core would operate at 1580 .. memory 1011 !

    Tried the same with my Vega 56 and the, at least for me, clear Result was, not worth the risk of flashing. Went back to original BIOS, tweaked it and put a custom cooler on it (Rajintek Morpheus II) and according to TimeSpy/Firestrike/SuperPosition it now competes pretty good with nVidias 1080. Save yourself the Time, altough at first the idea sounds nice but after all there, at least with my GPU, is a good reason why AMD sold it as a 56 and not as a 64, guess my 56 just couldn't hold the clocks stable a normal 64 can.

    I asked this last time when you did the rx 480 bios change but is it possible to change any of Nvidia's bios on their cards? Again all the benchmark results I've seen so far, including these, just confirm that games are not using all of the GPU cores (which again isn't surprising as it is very difficult to program), not on the the Vega 56, certainly not on the Vega 64 and maybe not even close. So I am not really surprised to see low to negative X-fire results due to added overhead, bad scaling, sub par drivers(?) and very little difference in gaming performance between the 56 and the 64. In gaming more cores usually don't compensate for a lack of per core performance (what we call "IPC" when comparing CPU cores). In my opinion AMD has to come up with a new generation of gaming specific GPU cores and until then there's nothing they can do against Nvidia's leadership in gaming, except of producing GPGPU cards for content creators, miners and server applications, striving for at least making a few bucks there.
