Awesome video. To everyone commenting, yes an ideal engine company is 4 personnel, however due to budgeting many departments across the country run only 3 man engine companies. Typically at least one paramedic with the other two being EMT's, such as the video.
I'm considering making a career switch from Law Enforcement to Fire. I was a lifeguard for 3 years and I loved it! I can see some similarities betweeing guarding and fire figthing; Opening and Closing Duties, equipment checks and continueing in service training.
Its really all because of manpower and the call types. Some departments, like mine, may only have two to three Paid personnel on shift, but we are also a combo department and will have volunteers go to the scene and standby in the station. Here normally we will have an officer and a Paramedic on shift and all Paid personnel are trained on how to drive all the trucks (both Engines, the Tower and the Rescue SUV) and have very little working fire but we have lots of Medical calls.
it also depends on cost. My department, for most shifts, have only 2 Firefighter/Paramedics on shift, one being the officer and the other being the primary driver.
these firefighters said they can't transport injured patients to the hospital why did I see a ambulance behind the fire fighter that was putting gear on
eddie manzo not true. You technically have to take a first responders class to become an emt. Im a firefighter but im not an emt. Rural areas like where I live dont require it like bigger cities do.
wow, at my station half the guys would even do any of these duties. There are certain jobs explained that are not done every day. Like lifting the cab might or should be done every week 1X, but then again, I would find volunteer firemen do more work than a paid staff firefighter where I USED to work. Typically City dept's are more aggressive with drills, training, getting things done and smaller twp. volunteer depts. slack, BUT There are many twp depts. that do a damn good job. usu. sleep,sit...

I know some fire departments where i live have both EMT/FF's. I know some people who are FF/EMT's!
Lol all firefighters are EMT's. In order to become a firefighter they will need to take classes to become EMT's.
