Took my computer to the local repair store, "they couldn't fix it, must be a motherboard problem" Then I followed your video and repaired it myself, thank you so much. Pity I didn't think of this before paying the $30 "diagnosis fee". My diagnosis... idiot.
thanks this worked. The only thing was you missed to point out that there were more screws to take out when you remove the large hardware panel where the harddrive and RAM are located.
Thank you as this has helped me and solved my "Flickering" problem. To those that gave a thumbs down, WTH, go and publish your own. Thanks Nick, not only solved my problem, very good tips too.
Thank you, I did many things you mentioned plus I used air duster for many parts and it worked fine in solving the flickering problem of Asus K61IC. Greetings from Holland 🇳🇱
Solved my problem this morning... Thanks to your video.... I was having nightmares as I was sleeping yesterday, thinking about the display flickering issue🙇
This worked (so far two days) for my Asus Chromebook flip. It must be the hinge rubbing against the display ribbon. Mine already had electrical tape on it near the hinge. It is 95% fixed but I think if I take the ribbon out, carefully, and put newer electrical tape on the ribbon near the hinge, it might be 100%. Thanks!
Sad to hear cause my Asus G73S is almost 10 years old. Some peripherals are damaged by now, like I have to use another keyboard cause the one it has is already gone and the screen is green with lines on the left but it is still working lol. II would by another Asus gaming laptop that is for sure.
Hi shill, one year later but flickering is not an exclusive asus problem, it's a global troubleshot that can happen to almost any device with a screen, the two main causes are random voltage fluctuation screwing your laptop/tv components and a damaged/loose/worn out video cable. My Asus N56jr had flickering which I fixed myself thanks to different tutorials but ofc I'm ready to get a newer better ASUS laptop.
Thank you soooo much helped me a lot, just discovered one of the screw points on the hinge broke affecting the wire.. wouldn't have known this if it wasn't for you.. Thank you again man.. subscribed and liked the vid 😁😁😁😁
Those flimsy plastic clips that hold the two halves of the case together are a nightmare to deal with. Even with lots of care, I broke a few. :-/ You'd think the manufacturers made it difficult to open by design to get you to buy a new one...
Try repairing an apple product, THAT`s what it`s like when they don`t want you to fix it. Never had a problem with an ASUS laptop myself tbh, they`re simple if you know what you`re doing ;)
Thank you for this, I searched on how to open up my chromebook on youtube, found the LCD cable, turned out it was slightly out of the screen. As per your advice, I made it more slack to avoid this happening in future hopefully. Many thanks :)
Nick - My Asus Q500A laptop screen flickers briefly and turns black when I tilt the screen toward me, but it does not stay black: when I release it from my hand picture is back. This does not happen when I tilt the screen away from me. When the screen is tilted around that critical angle (toward me), the screen sometimes turns black by itself, and I need to move the screen a bit to get the picture back. I hope your symptoms were similar to mine, and I hope that the root cause in my case is the same as you described it here. Nick - did your screen went black for a fraction of a second during that flickering? I wonder if I should perhaps first remove the bezel, the frame and remove the screen itself - if this view would tell me what could be the problem??
I have to thank you! My laptop is not an asus, but I have been plugging and unplugging the screen many times without solving the issue. What did the work was to loose a little bit as you mentioned. Thanks!
Hey Nick, thanks for this! I wish there were more vids like this to prevent us getting sharked by the IT people My ASUS laptop screen is gettin pinkish and delays and lines. It is good when hooked up with an external monitor. So I suspect its a hardware issue. Do you think this trick could work on my laptop?
Thank you! Mine gave up on Christmas day, only stable at half opened-- I have it propped on the right-sized book and am struggling for certain, lol, peering into it like a modern viewfinder-- no fun whatsoever. Thanks again!
hello Nick, I am planning to do the same thing in my computer, but before I do, I just would like you to answer me, please, if the flickering was also present in BIOS. If it was, I will do this procedure in your vídeo. What I can't figure out, indeed, is, if it is only a cable problem, why it works when connected to the power cable? Or did your computer do the same thing when connected to power? I hope you will be able to answer, please, these questions to me. Regards!!
So i'm having the same issue. I have a Asus ROG laptop. Lately the screen goes bananas when i fold the screen open in a certain angle. I try to adjust it. Getting harder and harder to find an angle that works. I have a question. If the problem is the cable inside like shown in this video, will the computer still work if i connect to a different screen with HDMI cable or would it flicker on that screen aswell?
I'm glad that you've fixed your issue but it's obviously nothing to do with my occurrence, being that it happens even in the BIOS. Thanks for sharing though.
If its in BIOS then there might be a physical damage already within you battery connection to the supply port of the screen. Either loose cable connection, or anything in particular. Better to get the manufacturer to fix it for you specially if its still within warranty.
Craig Hunter Thank you!!! I've been looking everywhere for a solution for my Asus X554L, and this is the one that finally worked - same problem, flickering when unplugged. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
I just now corrected my ASUS g750jm's flickering. On the back, only the top 2 corners and 3 under the battery( I removed all 5 under the battery) need to be removed to open the cover. My cable WAS scraping the little bracket. A little tape, and It's not flickering while I'm typing this!
I have an Asus R900v and its out of warranty, over the last 2 weeks it has started randomly flickering all different colours for a few seconds every few minutes but then going back to normal, I dont think my screen is faulty because when its working its perfect so between the minutes when its not flickering its 100 percent ok, does it sound like the cable?
I went to an expert computer technician near my apartment and found the cause of the constant flickering of the screen on my laptop. An old Wi-Fi card was what's giving me problems until it is replaced with a new one. So that could possibly be one of the troubles.
My screen started flickering and got progressively worse until being completely black. It only happens when it's unplugged though, so I don't think it's any type of connector failure
My laptop's screen turned pink after about a week it went back to normal and now it's pink again! It dives me crazy. Would that be the same issue?? Should I just loosen up the cable ? (the laptop can turn into a tablet by just flipping the keyboard)
My asus does this, what will happen if I don't get it fixed? I don't have the time to send it off for repair as I'm a university student (so no money for it either) and I can't fix it myself. Will the flickering get worse? I'm very worried!! I've saved all my files just in case the laptop breaks but I'm stressing
Same here, mine was a X555D. Not a problem like this video showed. Tried uninstalling and installing its display adapter driver, still same. I tried wiggling the screen but no flicker occurs. But when I scroll through pages on any website, or as long as there is movement of cursor, the screen flickers like it could not handle the rate of movement that the cursor had made. Ran a Windows Memory Diagnostic to no avail. Will try to hard-diagnose the RAM next to determine whether that was the issue. If still not, then I believe it was the update provided by Windows which made this to happen.
i have this issue now with the touchscreen series of asus laptop, the screen flickers when adjusting it. ive taken it apart 3 times to fix that shitty wire but nothing seems wrong with it. i put it back together and now my touch screen function doesnt work?
Hi I have a Asus R515MA and it flickers some times so i replaced the cpu fan because i thought i was do to the heat, but its still doing it when the battery power is low and it has been on for a long period of time can you help me figure out what's going please
most excellent video but my laptop is Asus N551vw and has different parts. I wish I could fix it but I'm afraid of breaking it. I have to spend loads of money in repair shop :(
My own is Asus GL702 and it has been flickering but as soon as I disable the Video displays graphic then it will be stable but as soon as I enable then it will continue to flicker …please what should I do ?
It wasn't specified if the flickering happened while plugged in or not, that's relevant. The ribbon problem would do it both plugged in and on battery. If it only happens on battery, the fix in this video shouldn't even be tried.
hi I need help i tried to open the laptop, but the cable is white, my laptop modal is x552l, can this also fix the white line flickering on the screen. please help
I have a problem, but in my case when my pc is about 50% or less on battery power it will start flickering, and will only stop when I plug it in to the current, after it charges it can stay unplugged but again until 50 or less before it starts flickering again
Mine started flickering at 20% then a few months later when it got down to 50% and now the screen is basically completely black if it's not connected to the charger. It's only a matter of time for you, I'm afraid...
Just searching for my Asus Ultrabook S56CB ribbon problem and got it. I have paid a lot to a service center for this problem but still, the flickering problem arises.
My laptop is an Asus F555LA (I also tried restarting in safe mode, reinstalling/updating the driver as well as making sure all latest windows updates are up to date etc, no luck)
I'm an 68-year-old gal who never thought she would open up a laptop. Well,well...I fixed my own damn Chromebook. THANK YOU, NICK!!!
Jeanne Louise was it easy to open up the chromebook? I have a C201pa

I was gonna say that..
Mine is just a white screen only my other monitor is working atm :P
same too haha
Same here (ASUS GL552V)
I wish I could watch this

Thank you so much. You saved me from leaving my wife's laptop in other hands... I could do it myself with this guide.
Thanks, man. I followed your tutorial and it saved my wife's laptop. Terima kasih from Bandung, Indonesia.
Thank you, I did many things you mentioned plus I used air duster for many parts and it worked fine in solving the flickering problem of Asus K61IC. Greetings from Holland 🇳🇱
It worked!!!! Thank you sooooo much! This was a horrible problem for me, and now it's no more! THANK YOUUUUU!!!! God bless you!
Solved my problem this morning... Thanks to your video.... I was having nightmares as I was sleeping yesterday, thinking about the display flickering issue🙇
I dont know if i seen on youtube before more usefull video. I just fixed my laptop screen thanks to you!
Works like a charm... my son's girlfriend is happy - She struggled with this for more then a year ! Thank you very much for sharing this ! :-)
Thanks!
I'm never buying an ASUS laptop again, it has so many issues to solve, my laptop doesn't even have a year and it's already having problems.

Thank you soooo much helped me a lot, just discovered one of the screw points on the hinge broke affecting the wire.. wouldn't have known this if it wasn't for you.. Thank you again man.. subscribed and liked the vid 😁😁😁😁

Thanks for this!! I wouldn't know one part from the next if I'd opened it up without this tutorial. This helped me fix the screen whiteout!
Still works for modern laptops. Components are slightly different but with some common sense it's the same process.
work tih my gaming laptop but i need to test it out first
Thanks a lot! It solved my problem. My Asus K56CB had some flickering green dotes when opened display at an angle more than 90 degrees.
Duuude! I'm traveling now, but I'm going to try this. this has been bugging the crap out of me!
I was able to fix my screen with Nick's video thanks
Wow. same laptop, this must be a common issues. Thanks so much.
Can this work on my Acer chromebook 14. It has the same problem. Sometimes the screen is good if moved in the right angel. Sometimes it's flickering.
Could you please tell us what model is this notebook?
seems to have fixed my issue. appreciate your vid!

My laptop screen backlight flickers even in BIOS and only when on battery: as soon as i plug in the AC adapter the issue goes away. Any advice?

Me too, I am trying to sell my laptop but the flickering is making it worthless. ;-;

Nick I don't suppose you have a video showing fixing a flickering Asus R900V 18.4inch screen? The laptop is alot different than this.
this works for asus chromebooks too! good job!
Thanks mate, worked first time!!!
thank you very much... this saved me some money! I have asus s56 this trick worked.

Wow, dude! That really helped with my N56! Thanks so much!
u think its same in n75?
i mean the screen cables
Well, there is a very good chance I would say...
same machine with same problem It happens when reducing the brightness or when dark color on the screen does your solution fix this?
ok I did it and it worked the flickering still there but not annoying like before thanks.
thank you. just fixed a 2020 vivobook
Worked for me ! I thoung, I will have to buy a new lcd, cheers mate!
In my case a bios update solved the flickering. Asus X541U, bios version 303 -> 309. The cable checked out ok, no strain.
My screen started flickering and got progressively worse until being completely black. It only happens when it's unplugged though, so I don't think it's any type of connector failure

Just tried this on an X555la laptop. Cable doesn't appear to be snagged or anything... apparently just a defective piece of crap...
so what did you do because i have the same laptop?
Same problem here
