Bruford Reaction
This is a UK track, it was intended for their second album. Eddie Jobson of UK plays the violin (uncredited).
A great version of this tune, for sure. One of a Kind was one of Eddie Van Halen’s favorite albums. When Holdsworth was selling his equipment to pay the rent in the early 80s, Eddie pitched in and tried to get him a deal.
Nice reaction. This song sort of follows the same trajectory as "Mental Medication" from the first UK album. That band had John Wetton on vocals and bass, who had played with Bill in the mid-70's incarnation of King Crimson. Can't wait for someone to pay you to dig into that stuff. 😉

Great song, great album.
Just my opinion, but I always wondered how this album came about to be such a lyrical one-of-a-kind thing for Bruford. I never found his other solo material to have this kind of outstanding melodicism that this album has. I think sometimes the people that we're around rub off on us, and you to see this kind of writing with wetton and and of course he worked with him around this time.
You can't go wrong with any of Bruford's material. Hell's Bell's and Fainting In Coils are two of my favorite's.
I like this song but I really enjoyed his previous album (Feels Good to Me)even more so.
I went to a Bruford drum clinic during "The Beat" era ( his bass drum, snare, roto tom, few Simmons, some octabons set up) maybe 20 people there. Great guy excellent limb independence !

At this point I'm confident on suggesting the Band U.K. They're all here except John Wetton on bass and vocals. And he doesn't sound like Jaco! haha. If you like that, Holdsworth's album Road Games is a must. Features Jack Bruce of Cream on a couple songs.
A subscriber sent me all the UK records on vinyl. I was gonna do their discography at some point since its short.
