@@RideAcrossTheRiver not positive but I think the intro lick is his '55 hardtail strat but the crunchier parts including the solos with the pinch harmonics are his '59 pearly gates Lester.
@@RideAcrossTheRiver hmm? That's weird... But the article I found seems to get repeated by others but they said just the opening riff is the strat.. If the higher gain stuff is a strat just the amount of pinch harmonics makes me think it's bridge pup though.
Can't count the amount of times I've ripped off the BFG of blues. When you're playing in a generic blues jam, his little tricks are a key to instacool. He's got so many little ideas and techniques that you can implement into a blues jam. There so much swagger in his playing too. Laid back, easy going, just riding the groove. He's a beast. 👌👌😎

Thank You for highlighting the Guitar Mastery of Rev Billy F Gibbons. I've been a fan ever since I saw a then unknown band open for Leon Russell in the year of our Lord 1973...they went by the name of ZZ Top.
The first part of that slidey lick is hammered in like a triplet feel. U can hear it if u just listen closely. It makes so much sense the way he does it. I cant imagine doing it any other way now once i learned
What's also cool is the power riffing in with the a chord. It's sounds good to play the bottom c note on the a string while still playing the a note on the g string and follow with power d chord But the next 3 chords are straight power chords starting in c.

Billy is such a blues rock machine! I was hypnotized by Eliminator from day one. On a side note, I often wonder if thin string BFG, ever met or played with thick string SRV? Both overkill masters from Texas! Probably would of opened a Blue Hole! 🌀
@@christiantgolden Awsome. Well that confirms it. One wonders where that guitar went. And the classic gold SRV one. Billy changed so much over the years. I wonder if Stevie would of grew a mega beard some day.
I learned the sliding learning songs on the Eliminator album and it opened an entire new door with light strings. Very cool stuff. You can play slide just a bit with your hands alone and accent with dynamics is what makes cool shit.
Sup' Rob? Oh yeah, that's right! Rockin' some Billy Gibbons! Every time I get to jamin' or noodlin' if you will and I find myself searching for that sweet spot to pinch off a harmonic I feel like that's just such a Billy move , even if I'm just repeating the same bend searchin' it _still_ sounds like it's intentional 😂 Nobody uses the pinch harmonic quite like Billy does . This was cool Rob, I also have been checking out the free link to your Rock and Roll boot camp so I can play somethin' like this gem of a solo on the most appropriate instrument I'll have when I win! ZZ "Top of the list" of tunes I'll be jamming on that sweet little ax! Who am I kiddin'? I'll be playin' it on my Squier unless my luck does a complete 180 on me, but that's what's fun about your giveaways! There's a chance I actually could win that thang 🤣 All the best to you and the fam brother Rob✌️♥️🎸🎶🙏👨🎤 (Little Bowie In full Starman throwing up the 🤘 courtesy of Google Gboard and Stan in Miami 🎁) I know, What? Yup, someone at Google is Bowie fan. Who'd a thunk it?✌️
FYI and very important: Billy played his 56 Stratocaster on the solo of La Grange. He used a small fender amp, either a brown face or a Champ. I don’t have my reference book with me. You can find it in Rock and Roll Gear head, a book by Billy Gibbons if you want to look it up
The Reverend BFG is peerless. It always amazes me the way Billy thinks ( or maybe, doesn't), when he's soloing. No other guitarist has that sound or thought-process. The Gibson tone is his - he owns it.
Robert, what level does your next level mean? I’m not really sure where I’m at and if I should start here or not. Been noodling for years, need more help.
Hey Gary, It's more of an intermediate level course. Bassically for people who have a few licks under their fingers and wanting to add more structure and style to their playing as well as adding new chords and concepts.
Love that KM Robert! I have a 79 cherry SB completely original with the flat frets! It must have been from the first 1500 because it had the Custom plaque behind the stoptail. It's a heavy beast but those creme HBs sound fantastic!
Angus also likes to roll across ... and just as I type this during the video you reference Angus...Billy and Angus are two of my favorite rock pickers...
That's exactly how I play it however I've been playing 2 pull offs to the 8th fret on the B string after the initial bend instead of picking both notes the first time.
How do you switch between Strat and Gibson string spacing? If I spend a couple days playing my LP and then pick up my Strat, I start to miss strings with my picking hand and that makes me think I can’t play a Strat. What’s a good way to overcome this?
I wish you went a little further because the next few bars are my favorite part of the whole entire lead section of that song absolutely insane and I still can’t figure it out

You put my exact thoughts into a comment. He's the most badass guitarist with heavy riffs, cool licks and his playing has a lot of swagger.
BFG plays with a very light touch too.
That's not stealing , that's soul and influence from the one and only Reverend Billy F. Gibbons.
Billy himself plays this different for each tour. New licks and riffs always coming.
