Thank you! Sargent Craig was my father, appreciate this so much!
Jcraig, Thank you so much for reaching out. You and persons just like you are the reason why we record these moments. I am so happy that you found this video.
I was ten in 68', but I know this battle all too well. I joined the Army in 79' and had the privilege of serving and working with one of the captured Green Berets, William G. McMurray. I was the driver at the S2/S3 shop for the 89th M.P. Group and got to know Bill McMurray. A great soldier and a great guy.
13 in 1968 the dark cloud of Vietnam hungover every school boys head
What incredible men. Thank you all, and Welcome Home.
We will pass on your regards, Thank you
This should be a movie. I have seen documentaries about this event, but great seeing the real heroes. They dont make soldiers like this any more.
Thanks for sharing, really enjoyed this personal account of this famous battle. Maximum respect. Too few have any concept of the cost of freedom. Thank you to all vietnam veterans! I appreciate your sacrifices.
Casey, thank you for your on-point comment.
Our freedom was NOT in danger from the Vietnamese wanting to force a foreign army out of their country.
The Vietnam war had little popular support from our army.
30% heroin use in some units
1000 fraggings of officers and NCOs
2% volunteered for a 2nd tour
My parent’s best friend was Danny Philips. They were all from Hershey. Still gets my mom to cry when mentioning his name.
Immediately sent this video to my mom. She remembers the last time they saw Danny before he went overseas, was when my Dad just started Penn State for his Masters with my mom and he came to say goodbye and spent the weekend. I remember every time we visited the Vietnam Memorial growing up, they would do that rubbing with the paper of Danny's name. He was and still remains a hero.
"the NSA called us, and this is back when the NSA used to listen to the enemy, instead of us...."
That really made me chuckle. Thanks for posting
What a great speaker this preacher is . His skills tell an amazing story with great articulation
Greatest respect for Vietnam combat veterans I joined the US Army in 1986 the majority of the leadership in the Infantry in my COC were Vietnam vets everything I learned in the beginning of my career as a 11B was from a Vietnam area combat veteran . Ruck up travel light fight at night.
My God what a story teller. Thank you dearly.
This man is a great man.
Wow! This was amazing. I've never heard such a personal account of this "battle". Thank you.
Have you seen the video where Paul goes back to Vietnam? The Man Left Behind - tubitv.com/movies/553989/the-man-left-behind
@@militarytales No! this is fantastic. Thank you so much.
You were an inspiration to us all. Hope we helped in a small way. Vietnam Vet NSA Phu Bai/Hill 950 Hickory Hill 1967-1969
Amazing record of a deadly battle !
I was able to find the narrative accompanying the CMOH of SFC Ashley and also a separate description his involvement during the battle. Definitely worth reading and easy to locate.
This battle would be a great subject for a movie.
From my experience it is hard to keep track of time when you are in a fire fight. To be clear I have never been in any combat that heavy.
It sure was one crazy battle, have you seen the video of Paul going back to Vietnam? "The Man Left Behind" www.vudu.com/content/movies/details/The-Man-Left-Behind/696868
Exceptional !
These guys were true savage warriors. God bless America 😅🙏!
The Marines should have tried to rescue those men .
The NVA knew they would try,and set up an ambush for them. The commanding officers at kae sahn knew this also, that's why they would go
The Marines failed to reinforce them as promised
The Marines would have gone to help, but it was the Marine commander who failed to assist.

Damn straight.
I read about this decades ago, never thinking I would be able to listen first hand from those who fought in this terrible battle.
America's young privileged brats should be lined up to listen to what real heroes are like.
God bless you all.
Dana Thank you for your comments, we were very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to document this presentation
Captain Willoughby gave an account
Of the battle available on dvd
As a safety precaution the australian
Army wouldnt let any indigenous
Personell in their camps when they
Were stationed in vietnam!
Aussies took every precaution because they had seen the Americans getting ambushed almost every time. To many rats in Saigon's U.S. army headquarters. Near 80% of their contacts in the jungle were compromised! Nonontheless the U.S. special forces, the SOG teams, the LRRPs, the Green Berets in the Vietnam war era, were the best fighters-warriors!
Dennis thompson was captured and
Spent five years a pow. Two and a half in solitary!
Google my friend..Steve Leopold POW Vietnam
After Tet we had them... Should have gone into Laos and Cambodia after.... It would have been over, NVA Gen. Giap said that not me. 👍👋
You better believe I clicked the thumbs up when I heard how God showed up!
4:30 I spit out my coffee here!
Prayer is talking to God. Talking in a manner befitting a conversation with someone who can toss a mountain on top of you. Or a lightning bolt. And can do it to your enemy.
Does North Carolina or South Carolina have a program for honoring and recording oral histories of vets from Vietnam War. Met one yesterday named Jerry Hill, 101st airborne up near dong ha, Recon I believe. Jerry from Columbus, NC
I do not know, I bet if you Googled the term, you might find it
After listening to many accounts of this battle it is infuriating that the top brass felt that it wasn't worth it to reinforce the base because it was mostly yards or nungs so their racism kicked in. Regardless of SF in the area. Also it was a huge mistake in intelligence to not believe that tanks were in the area and not report it to the people that were stationed there.
That would be a good display of how ignorant the upper superiors were and how very good men died to their egos.
Please Google ..LT now. Colonel Steve Leopold POW Vietnam...Excellent Story...Milwaukee Wisconsin Citizen...Our Disabled Veterans of America...D A V member...after all hes been through...One of Our DAV greatest volunteers in our Department Of Wisconsin DAV History...next to Richard Marbes. Great American !!!!!!
Man if I had been in that camp and heard that Marine saying that we aren't coming I'd MAKE DAMN CERTAIN I'D HAVE SURVIVED and marched into Khe SANH and looked for that damn Chickenshit COLONEL! I Wouldnt have given a damn if they had brought charges down on me!
War is ugly
Vets seem to turn terror into humor or stay quiet. Most know the va system is rotten . Sadly, we're losing this generation. 💜
Green berets always got attacked
Older crowd shows need for education. All US wars as our wars, not their wars. Please attend the Asian US War(s)...
To bad 105 arty rounds weren't set up as mines on the approaches. Duh
A completly unnecesary war.
Total waste of life and resources....
Sad to hear my fellow Marine would not come to aid American brothers in need
How ridiculous it is to hear the defeated in Vietnam rambling about a some victory!
