Used to ride Lambretta s in the late 6ts, got knocked by A white Transit van, vowed never to get back on two wheels. Well last month I became a born again two wheeler, a brand new Honda Forza125 as stole my heart. Whilst not having the Italian styling of the Lambretta , check em out, could be the next best Mod thing.KTF

Back when this video was posted I was riding a Vespa PX125 and a Gilera 180 runner. I love the little Vespa, but it's slow, so I got my thrills on the Gilera which with a top speed of 90 and unbelievable acceleration, is really something. The problem with it is you can't carry anything on it. The Vespa on the other hand can carry the family shop, a bag of cement, and believe it or not, a set of steps which I bungied to the legshield and the rear carrier. So I disagree with the old scooter dealer. You can enjoy both an old Italian scooter and a modern twist and go. For those who haven't tried one, if you had 230 conversion tuned up and all, the Gilera is faster just as it came out of the factory.

A scooter is great for commuting, shopping or to move very fast though cities. I've compare the Honda PCX 125 and a CBF 125. On high speeds (> 90 kmh) im feeling unsafe on this scooter. Not on the motocycle. The motocycle is easier in turns (big wheels). Everyone tries to overtake you on a scooter. Even when you are driving 90 on a 60 street. Not on a motocycle or a car. You can't apply motocycle clubs with a scooter. Motocyclists are greeting each other. Scooters don't. But the scooter has no gears what is wonderful in cities. It has way more storage. It has a better wheather protection. The 50cc class in germany is locked to 45 kmh. So you are blocking the streets in German cities. Its horrible to drive a 50cc scooter. A 125 is quite good. Its tax free and free freeway use. So you can even drive the city freeways. They mostly max 80 kmh. With 50cc its forbidden to use any freeway and some highways in Germany.

There is nothing girly about a vintage Vespa. I have both a vintage Vespa P200E (1979) and a modern Vespa GTS300 (2012) The vintage Vespa is 10 times more fun. Not many people could even ride a vintage Vespa anymore. They are crude, kickstart only, 2 stroke, you have to mix the oil and the gas, manual shift, manual clutch, they smoke, which I love, but seems to turn a lot of people off, they buzz, rattle and squeak, the lean slightly to the right because the engine is heavier on the right, they require a lot of messy maintenance. It takes a real man to ride a vintage Vespa on a daily basis, just like it did to ride vintage British bikes back in the '50s and '60s. Now the new scooters, they are a whole different thing. You just get on them and go. Electric starting, automatic transmission, easy to maintain, and somewhat practical, but drop dead boring.

Alan Hayward Have you ever heard of panniers and top boxes? The last time I went to the local bikers sea-side town with my wife riding pillion, it was a hot, sunny day and neither of us suffered from having to carry around a heavy jacket, Armoured jeans or a crash helmet because I ride a Pan European with both these things on and we just locked everything away on the bike while we enjoyed the weather. With over a hundred litres of storage space it beats the capacity of any scooter ever built and keeps it perfectly dry when the typical British "Summer" does it's thing.
Where you put your pillions gear?(assuming you have one), Under the seat too? I seriously doubt that!
