Love EVs though the financial payback without a dedicated home charging station complimented with a solar and battery system installed doesnt make sense. Payback periods to break even relying on public charging stations and home charging at normal electricity rates vary drastically. A CX30 at 38K vs a BYD atto at 48K can be about a 7 to 9 year period driving at 10,000kms a year. Free public charging especially in Sydney is sparce with many situated in shopping centres where you'll have to pay for parking anyway. Not crazy going to the local shops and seeing a line of EVs waiting to use the charge stations.
EVs are actually good for commuting because you can charge it at home overnight and you don't need to stop at charging station while commuting short- mid distance
Not soulless, just a different soul. They can be thoroughly enjoyable drives for pleasure, it all depends what you drive just like ICE cars. And personally, going from a twin turbo 4.4 V8 to an EV, I do not miss visiting the Servo when I charge overnight in my garage instead 99% of the time. But do what’s right for you.
Petrol car people are just DVD & CD people from yesteryear, who insisted on hanging onto a bad and outdated format … before finally buying an iPod, getting Netflix and never looking back. 😂
I definitely agree that EV’s have come a long way, but I’ve always had two very critical (for me) items that I would need to buy one: 1. I want an EV that can charge as quick as it takes me to refuel a combustion car. 2. I want 800+km of range like some modern diesel 4wds. I understand these factors aren’t important for most, but for me, that’s what it’ll take for me to buy an EV.
Does EV insurance cost much higher than normal engine cars ? If Ev got into fire, is it safe to use water to put the fire off ? Does EV authorized workshop can be found easily other than the dealer ?
I'd have no issue if I had a garage at home to park and charge one every night. But no. I have random street parking so would have to rely exclusively on 3rd party chargers. And then I do a lot of interstate trips, which you really didn't cover at all.
Oh yeah sure it charges fast, but that mini's range is less than my mates e-scooter. The environmental concerns is over the unsustainable and inhumane mining sites for battery materials. Comparing this to the potential hydrogen vehicles from Toyota, it is terrible for the environment. I don't know anyone thinks EVs are slow or expensive to maintain, maybe you're confusing this with the old Prius hate gang?
Fast Chargers Are Not "Fast" (most of my EV Reviews take almost 1hr to charge) also not cheap usually around $45-$50, EVs have a use case but i cant stand the movement to completely eliminate ICE Vehicles.. EVERY CAR ON THE PLANET = around 15% of total carbon emissions.. a fraction compared to Big Industry and Agriculture... like you mentioned 70 odd plus % of Australias energy is "Dirty" anyway.. imagine if everyone had an EV.. the Grid would collaps and the energy prices would skyrocket! EVs Should have a place but WE SHOULD NOT BE FORCED TO HAVE THEM! just my 2cents :) Remember EVs are expensive and most people will cheap out and buy a poorly made and badly sourced one once we are forced to do so.. Cobalt Mining, Catching Fire, Battery Replacements!
Still waiting for hydrogen to kick off. I love the fact you can go combustion with zero emissions. Would love to see the Hyundai N Vision 74 in some sort of domestic production line
Didn’t mention how much to charge at a station, no one mentions that, pathetic range, don’t know how you can be happy with that. Not green at all, not made from plants.
Most of the reviewers don't talk about the EV charging - power related - infrastructure issues. It's not easy to live with an EV. In the longer run EV's are not that cost effective - economical. With so many EVs selling each month in Australia, we are heading for really big trouble as Australia immensely lacks the necessary infrastructure for mass EV charging. Our capacity or resource for reliable, efficient, and consistent generation of electricity is very limited. This issue needs to be addressed right now, or we are surely heading towards total chaos.
So a new $33,000 drive away CX-30 is around $15,000 cheaper than an avg EV drive away (not taking into account any fast charging installation costs at home either). That’s 100,000km worth of fuel and servicing you would be ahead (about 7 years of driving) before you even charge up and drive away. Barely any time waiting to fuel up too. Can’t argue with facts. I could cherry pick 5 reasons ICE’s are much better too. Maybe there’s another video for you.
Great video. I hope Highway Patrol aren’t watching…! 🫣 It’s a hard sell but good to combat the false propaganda against them. As soon as you own one most people will never go back!

What about if you do have solar panels, but not a battery system?
That Mini electric is like nothing else, you seriously have to plonk yourself in one and experience it. Best car I’ve ever driven.
If I spent 36 minutes filling up my car with petrol….. yep no thank you! Resale values aren’t great also. Then there is the drive… soulless.
To each their own! I get that!

Yeah I agree the electric car I own hands down has more soul than all the petrol cars I’ve ever owned previous.
I had a spin in the GWM Ora and honestly, even if I don't end up in one of those, my next car is definitely going to be an EV.
Here come the - “you’ve sold out for big-EV cash” comments 😅. I liked the vid, thanks.
I hope not! My words, they had no control haha - I just got to keep the car for the week! Win win in my books!
1:14 The fact that I know where that place is fascinates me that there's electric charging there unlike months ago
Haha I should keep it a secret!

I believe a news article came out where insurance for EVS in the UK were ridiculously expensive and some companies would not insure EVs

Excellent informative video Matt 😊😊😊

Cute orange speaker on the desk, and cute car. Kinda want both.

Wouldn’t that be cool!
Buy a Diesel to make a property trip
hey carsauce and your review india's SAFEST compact suv by TATA its name is nexon
Do we have a price on that battery replacement?

Great infomercial, BMW are very pleased. Where are the steak knives?
Can't remember spending 30 minutes at a survo ...well maybe after a cyclone hit was a large line up because there was no electric power .

You left out the battery replacement cost! They may last longer; you still have to replace them.

here's myth or fact for you to tackle, the dangerous perception of ev and how they arent unsafe as they burn like hell hath no fury
Didnt even talk about upgradability and right to repair
