They're using motifs from old Japanese monster and super hero movies to comment about the frustration of life in modern Japan; there's an office worker, a college student and a bored housewife. Atarashii Gakko then cast themselves as the super heros sent to break everyone out of their boredom so they can march forward to freedom.
AG have been around since 2015 when they were formed by the Asobisystem talent agency. They had worked with Mizyu (the smallest and oldest one) because she was a back up dancer with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and they brought in Suzuka, Rin and Kanon to join her. AG joined 88Rising in 2021 to promote them in the US and they broke out last year with their song "Otona Blue". They have since done a small North American tour which sold out, filled the Budokan Arena in Tokyo which is a big deal and Sony just asked them to reinterpret the original Ghostbusters' theme for the Japanese release of the new movie.
Good things to watch next are "Otona Blue The First Take", "Nai Nai Nai" and for some live performance "Atarashii Gakko @NYC Brooklyn".
