I don't go to bed every night without listening to at least 8 songs of KSA. The soothing effects of his mastery of the art of juju music is unparalleled. I believe he is the greatest musician to come out of Nigeria.
Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has just passed on to glory. In the early 70s, he said 'Mr. Lawal, a ti nduro deyin'. This is IKU BABA YEYE we are talking about here! I had no other choice but apologise profusely for keeping him and his entourage waiting in the old Bodija Estate Housing Corporation lbadan. Such humility from a younger Alaafin of Oyo at that time rendered me speechless. He was a remarkable presence. God rest his soul.
This is a master piece from The Golden Mercury of Africa Aka King Sunny Ade. What a song! Here he (King Sunny Ade) pays tribute to Oba Adeyemi the Alaafin of Oyo at the time. Oyo was founded by Oranmiyan, one of the son's of Okanbi who became the first Alaafin of Oyo.
Sunny Ade is a promoter of Yoruba culture via Juju Music. I love his music since 1960s till date. No doubt he's Passionate about his music business and has excelled. I remained his fan for life.
KSA and his African beats will continue to be the best and I just can’t stop loving this very album, listen carefully to all the guitars, the talking drummer Alhaji Tiamiyu praising Adeyemi non-stop and big respect for Ademola Hawai (hawaya)
It was a pleasant experience for me to be in the presence of Oba Alaafin Adeyemi, Oba Oyebade Lipede-Alake of Egbaland-RIP( in the company of Rasaq Oliyide), Chief Amuda Obelawo Lawal of Ejigbo and much younger Chief Akanni Aluko, Kola Aluko's dad in the good ole early 70s Bodija Estate. Remarkable times those were. Sunny Ade is a riot with this album .
Never and never sunny ade will praise any king like this in my time. This is a master piece, when kings have Respect in Yoruba land, compare to nowadays kings that settle for a hand shake.........hahahaaaaa
Without a doubt one of King Sunny Ade's best ever albums. I remember my parents playing this album when I was growing up in London, UK and ever since I have loved his music. What I love about this album is that King Sunny Ade is paying tribute to the King makers of the land (Yoruba land), such as the Alake of Abeokuta, as well to the great Oba Adeyemi (The Alaafin of Oyo)
King Sunny ADE your artistic talent has contributed to the success of JuJu Music. You are a reformer, Master guitarist which has won you many accolades in JuJu music .
I don't think this is the same Chief Obelawo I knew. Double check this. Afobaje Ejigbo ni. He might still be alive in Osogbo because I saw him chatting with Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun governor more than a year ago.
King Sunny Ade known as 'The Golden Mercury of Africa.' In the 1980's he went on to achieve huge acclaim with his album "THE MESSAGE" as well as his music featuring in the Richard Gere Hollywood film "Breathless".
I love this track. This kid - man is simply the greatest musician, composer, guitarist and instrumentalist of all time, bar NONE even though this track was released almost 40 years ago. Late Michael "Jacko" Jackson, Elvis Prestley, CCE Obey, Eric Clapton, Bob Marley etc didn't and could never have played rhythmic music to this incredible level. Almost 40 years down the line, the likes of Emperor Pick Peters, YK Ajao, Ahuja Bello at 80 etc are still trying to model and rise up to this standard without success. KSA is an undervalued Yoruba genius of this generation. He is simple the best and greatest musician of ALL time across ALL jurisdictions. Yes he is and that is without even taking his other numerous works and tracks into account. As for you peddling on and pirating KSA's works and tracks to make money on YT, you are on notice from today that ALL of your pirate tracks will soon be coming down. KSA's organisation and marketing company will ask YT to take them down in favour of KSA's genuine channel. Please go and create your own works, if you want to make money on YT. Stop making money off other people's works. It's THEFT.

My brother, you have said it all. Let me add, he is undervalued and underrated also. This man single handedly put Yoruba music on the world map. Getting a Grammy nod in 1983, when it was uncommon and unheard of despite the array of music stars and hostile peers. but for racism and not knowing how to shelf his music, he probably would have won the Grammy in 1983. He was the reason they created the world music category in 1992. Despite the fact that Island record made no music video and little radio promotion, King Sunny Ade tore up concert halls all over Europe and America with his yet to be rivalled Live stagecraft. KSA, sold records and generally thrived on the strength of his live performances. The world music was later hijacked by big Franco phone labels and they started handing out Grammy for best world music album to undeserving and mediocre artist who fine tuned their sound to European and American sound. Angelique Kidjo and Yousouph Ndour benefited immensely from this marketing hijackers. No disrespect to the two giants though. The question is how can a country like Nigeria not produce a Grammy win for best world music despite KSA, Femi and Seun grabbing nods not until Burma boy won. Burma's case is another story for another day. Is Burma's sound world music or urban music. Burma Boys again benefitted from that marketing labels who pushed his music and forced it through everyone's throat. His promoters even recruited Puff daddy to executive produce his album. However, Grammy or no Grammy, no one can take any shine away from the prodigiousness of KSA. KSA represents hard work, tenacity and even at his age going 75 years, he still pushing the limit of Live performances. And as for copyright, LET KSA and his peers who have laid the foundation for African music to reap from their sweat.
I listing to this song again and again, I find out that the mode of constructive is just completely arranged and the best. The only present Fuji musician that still follow the step is the man called Osupa Saidi. I pray that God keep them for us. Thank you Baba KSA, unique man.

Sir, this album was released in 1977, that was the year I graduated from high school. Gen. Gowon was removed from office in 1975 while attending OAU Summit of African Heads of State in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by Gen Murtala Mohammed. Between the intervening period and 1977 when the album was released, Nigeria had had two heads of state: Gen Murtala who was assassinated on Feb 13, 1976, and OBJ, who was appointed to replace him. But you are correct about the statement credited to Gen Gowon that Nigeria of the time when he held sway as Nigerian HOS that the country had spending problems; money was the least of its problem, but how to spend it, was.
