Bought 2 new MS591 (these have replaced the 590 but still have pads for the stay alive) sound chips from Digitrains, and have my Lais stay alives. Now to buy the bullet with the dremmel. Thanks for the video 👍🏻
Take your time, that is all I can say, but since you are going to do this, I have one thing to say about it .. None of it is going to show at the end of the day :)
Hi Joe, Loved this video! as you say not for the faint hearted LOL! great conversion, and that stay alive is definitely the way to go for the 08's! I can't believe I haven't seen this video sooner! All the best Tony.
Wooow😲, never knew these smal Models could have sound installed 😍. Good thing you have tiny little fingers Joe, so you manager to install it 😉😅😅. No really, this was amazing 👏👏👌
Greetings Malta 🇲🇹 and hello Joe 👋 Incredible work 😇 these things are so small 😳 especially the work with the dremel, so easy to destroy the model.🤕 The stay alive is such an important addition 👍 Lovely livery 😍 so buttery golden 🌞💛😎 Very best wishes from the Kerrygold Island ☔️☔️☔️
I'm curious how you found out what solder pads were GND and V+ ???? I have the Zimo MX659N18 very similar to yours with 5 solder pads (like yours) located beside the socket pins, yet I cannot find any information on those solder pads to identify what pad does what. Very frustrated.
If you open www.zimo.at/web2010/documents/MX-small-decoders_EN.pdf, and search for mx659n18, you will find 3 instances of it being mentioned. The 3rd mention displays the decoder and tabs. If I remember correctly, I bought the mx590n18 and not the Class 08 with the Sound Decoder that it came with. Mine has the soldering tabs.
@@Hal-Zuzzu_Model_Railway Hi... yeah I've been to that web page before and sadly there is NOTHING mentioned about the mx659n18 regarding solder tabs. Yeah sure it shows a diagram of the decoder, but the tabs are not labelled. Rather useless if you make a decoder with solder tabs but don't mention what each tab is for.
@@phillipg1588 agree .. I got mine from a PDF for my model and they were clearly labelled! Here: ruclips.net/video/GmFoRESHBOc/видео.htmlsi=UTvzjjJ8uO4adoBw&t=152
Maybe I missed it, but where is the speaker? Was it already installed on the unit, or was it part of something else? I did just skim through the video, but all I see is a decoder being installed as well as a stay alive, but no speaker fit during the video?
Definitely stay alive is the way to go but we need a manufacturer to come up a very small one for n gauge or the Loco manufacturers to start building them in to their loco's. great job non the less.
Totally agree. I wish to add one to all my locos to be honest, but as you know it is not easy at all. One can always house them in the first wagon but then that would mean they mate for life and cannot be apart. Also, most times it is decoder dependant. IF the decoder does not have soldering tabs for a stay alive on it, then it becomes even more difficult!!

Stay-alive is the future for me :)

Thanks Jan! 😃 I struggle with working on them, but it is very rewarding when I manage :)
Thank you for your constant support :)

Which sound file did you use?
Came with the decoder. Got it from Digitrains

The 08 is the new tool DCC sound ready model. Speaker is installed from factory. It is up front just behind the radiator :)
