Fascinating story, thanks, you have told it really well! I think the Doctor had something to do with James's death, perhaps he paid someone to attack James as he would be recognized by James and anyone else in the area, had he been seen!

The number of stab wounds on a victim not matching with the number of holes in a shirt can mean absolutely nothing.
Often an attacker is in such a frenzy, trying to cause as much damage in as short a time as possible, that they do not fully retract the weapon before stabbing again. Thus the same hole in the shirt could be used to cause multiple wounds simply by using the same hole in the shirt but altering the angle of the weapon.
There's even cases of the attacker being in such a frenzy that they don't even retract the weapon from the flesh before they stab again, they will just use the same entry wound but angle the weapon differently then stab again to cause a bigger wound. The Yorkshire ripper is one example of this.

I love walking in these people footsteps, even though many of the stories are a little dark in nature. For me personally, it's the uncovering of the stories to begin with I love, then cross referencing using old maps with new maps, checking ancestry records etc just to confirm where we need to go. But nothing beats being at the scenes and seeing nothing has really changed in all those years.

As you well know, local history is vital for future generations, and walking the history ' path ' adds such realism, doesn't it. We live in an age today where our history and heritage is being scrubbed out of schools. This makes your ( and your wife and others ) work all the more important. Thanks again, Colin ( Wakefield ).

I live on a narrowboat, I’ve moored around that area and walked around those ruins in the past, I’ve walked over those bridges and didn’t know it had such a sad story attached to the area. I see it’s got new graffiti now, I always thought it was a foundry for the canal because of the bridge being called smiths bridge but that’s just a guess, it’s great listening to your stuff I’m in Shropshire at the moment so it’s great to hear a Lancashire accent.

As someone who has been the victim of a knife attack, the damage to clothing doesnt necceasrily corrilate to wounds. I was stabbed twice in my leg but there was only one hole, as the knife caught in my trackies and he didnt pull back too far before lundging a second time. I kept the trackies for years after and I'd show them to people (dumb young me thought it was cool). The hole didnt line up with my scarrs.
Clothes move around on your body as you move. Id imagine even more so if someone has a hold of you and youre trying to break free. If that is the only evidence of self harm, I do not buy it. Great video though sorry for the year late comment! 😂

Sorry to hear about your enocunter Terry, we hope you have recovered from it. We cant begin to imagine how you even get over something like that, be we hope you are doing well. I think when we did this video, well over a year ago now I think, but when we are out filming, we try to put ourselves in the position of those involved best we can and we this one I think I was being a little naive in thinking the stab wounds would match up to the clothing, but as you say, clothing does move and more so if being grabbed and a tussle ensues.

I'm not convinced that James inflicted the injuries himself. If he had, then surely some sharp implement would have been found in the vicinity, as it's unlikely that he would have disposed of it himself. I think he was definitely attacked possibly by the Dr. as suggested by Vicky.

  • @lameesahmad9166
    @lameesahmad9166 3 месяца назад +4

Thank you for sharing this with us. I am not a doctor but I am wondering if the head grip which the attacker had James in could have caused an internal injury to his head which the doctor diagnosed as congestion of the brain. Also it not possible that in the struggle James's shirt could have ridden up exposing his body which made it possible for the attacker to stab him a further 3 times before he managed to free himself and run away. If the shirt was loose then if the knife was quickly pulled out of his body and reinserted then it is possible that the knife was still in the hole on the shirt when he was stabbed again. Looking at the area today does not mean that it had the same amount of vegetation at the time of the attack. Perhaps there were more trees and shrubs at the time and seeing the uncle leave the farm the attacker took cover under the shrubs or in the trees. Unless there was a full moon to see clearly even with a lamp would have been difficult. I cannot speak for the doctors wife but if there was almost 20 years difference between James and herself that is more than twice his age. I myself would have been quite surprised if anyone thought that there could be any sort of romantic relationship with myself and this teenager. If a lad of that age had to show such an interest in me I quite frankly would be amused and find ways to extricate myself from the situation. But maybe she considered James as a family friend and was naive enough not to even realise his romantic feelings for her.

when the stranger asked James for copper . he was obviously trying to lure him close , and when this did not work he followed him and adminstered some posioness cmemical to the lads body . there are chemicals which would bring those symtoms . NOW . as the lad had had an encounter with the husband of the lady he is obviously the number one sus . Perhaps there wer no amourous intent in the lads and the ladys engagements , perhaps they were just kindred spirits .. but the husband being a spiteful and jelous man assumed there was amours meanisn to the lieasion . NOW . there is no more dangerous man than he who feels scorned by his loved one . .and he is capabal of murder no doubt . soo is has to be the doctor . he has the means of delivering the poision and it was undeticable in those times . grest video man loved everyy second of it . and again what beautiful country side . faboulous .

The attacker could have grabbed him bu the shirt during the attack. That would explain why the lower wounds didn't go through the shirt because the bottom was pulled away and somewhat scrunched while the blows landed, perhaps.
It could be that the doctor examining the wounds missed something, that's not entirely out of the picture or unheard of even in modern times.
If he had enough time to describe the attack surely he'd have identified the doctor who he knew, it would be the first detail you give.

I always took that derelict building to be connected to the near by Swing Bridge, maybe a stop off point for when they used Horses along the towpath perhaps ? The building itself is of quite a size and looks to of once been quite grand for a farmhouse, but of course just guessing. Great videos these, seeing areas personally know and have been. Thank you.
P.S another old tale kids used to tell each other was of a tunnel running from the Dunkenhalgh to around that area, as a secret escape passageway for when Catholics were persecuted back when Henry VIII Reigned - or so the tales went. More likely just kids nonsense, but didn't stop us looking for entrances and adding on thing's like hoards of unfound treasures hidden away.

Quite a story. I wouldn’t think it was the doctor who attacked him , as he knew the identity of the doctor and didn’t mention it to anyone. As you mentioned he worked in a chemical factory , so could have intentionally harmed himself with a sharp object contaminated with some chemical. Or someone else did that knew the doctor and his wife. All these old diagnoses of causes of death make me laugh. What is congestion of the brain , brought on by fright. What a load of rubbish. It’s more like some sort of poisoning from a chemical. I’m no doctor but these old diagnoses make no sense whatsoever. Great channel. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Okay - so - he was with the Drs Wife - the Dr caught them - while his shirt was undone - the doctor stabbed him several times - however He ran buttoning the shirt back on (?) - hence the missed-matched stab holes…he wouldn’t tell anyone because he didn’t want to embarrass the Drs Wife.

    This is a curious one!
    So many questions.
Why would a 30+ woman be out and about with a 16 year old lad. Why did the puncture marks in James's shirt not match the ones in his abdomen. If it was the Doctor ( access to drugs that could cause confusion) why didnt James identify him when he told his story. And of course "why" was this done at all.
    How very strange.

  • @robertdiamond2830

How bizarre. It's very difficult to injure yourself. I can't imagine anyone being able to stab themselves so many times and that fatally deep. The Dr is my suspect. His coat is the only thing that's puzzling me.
BTW, these videos should come with a warning..

This story is a strange occurrence indeed. On the one hand, the boys own account seems plausible but, the coroners verdict as to to how the wounds were inflicted....are quite bizarre to say the least. To do that to yourself would suggest the boy was "mentally unstable" or mad.... yet we are told, many said he was full of life and as normal anyone was at that time ?? absolute;y unfathomable. My view is this....how do we know that the shirt was the boys own shirt ? did someone replace it before he was seen by clinicians ? I think, somebody was talking absolute porkies... maybe, the coroner himself was the killer, who knows.
