    Thanks. Still a lot more convoluted than the old Yahoo solution, so I'm using Google sheets for now, but would prefer Excel. So Verizon is yet again the source of my problems. Would this be the same company that lobbied for the end of net neutrality? Shows yet again why they rank consistently high on the most hated companies.

    Thank you very much. My spread sheet has about 30 stocks listed, each has its own row. I only want one cell, which would be current price. I was not able to figure out how to isolate that one "current price" cell from your method.

      Did you edit the query from the Query pane, removing unwanted top and bottom rows, and columns? That is how to leave just the cell and its heading (you cannot remove the heading).

    Thanks for your video, Is there a reason when I pull data, the excel table options are limited to Doc, and Table 0 which does not contain the price!!

      It depends on the source. Most stock market sites, for example Motningstar, will not include price in the API as it is part of their paid subscription. What site were you trying?

      "Morningstar"

      From 2:56 it demonstrates creating a second query. Did you try that with a different table?

    what alternatives to googlefinance do exist? e.g. does this work with the url to the stock exchange directly?

    • @stevechapelle
      @stevechapelle  5 лет назад

      Well there are lots of alternatives to Google Finance - Bloomberg, BNNBloomberg, Marketwatch; it depends on the type of information sought. What they mostly have in common is not offering the data tables, i.e. latest stock price, in their non-subscription API. Furthermore, most of the non-subscription pages' data is 15 or 20 minutes delayed. For portfolio management this may be suitable; daytrading, probably not. For this you need to be logged into your trading account or subscribe to a live service.

      @@stevechapelle thx, so these are not for free?

      No - subscriptions are generally fee-based...
      That is why barchart.com is especially helpful as I indicated in the update.

    unuseful. google finance blows. doesn’t update prices of mutual funds until the next day.

      ... which is why I posted the update for a better source more than one year ago. Also, all mutual funds typically report their NAVs many hours after market close as they must wait for the closing prices of all issues in the fund.

    NO ... it is NOT a great solution. It is pathetic that in 2019 this is the best option available. I think not.
