My great grandfather (Alex Brody)met Jesse when he was a boy. Jesse and a fiend spent the night in my great great grandfathers (Hugh Brody) barn in Iowa or Ohio. The next day Jesse asked my GG grandfather if he knew someone who was hard up and needed financial help. My GG grandfather told him of a old woman who was going to lose her farm. Jesse gave gold to the woman and told her to have the bank come out and take the gold and sign the deed to her. After the banker collected the gold, Jesse robbed him on his way back to town.
Ron, we've been to this place twice. The first time was 1985 and you were able to actually go into the house and all kinds of artifacts were right there and you could touch them. It was fantastic. The second time we went was 1995, and by then, they had built the visitor center and museum. You could still go into the house, but by then everything was behind protection. Still very much worth visiting.
This is in my backyard! I saw my house in your film. Since moving here in 2003, I’ve shown 100’s of people from all over the country where is grave is. Hope you enjoyed your visit!
My late father in laws family had a farm that either boarded or was very close to the James farm. He liked to say that he knew frank but he would only had been an infant. His stories came from his dad and grandfather, his dad being around the same age as the James boys

My friend was born in 1914. Her father was from Missouri, and he used to tell her about Jesse James coming to their farm when he was about five or six years old. My friend's family gave Jesse and his men some food, and while they were chatting before they rode away, Jesse leaned down and handed him an apple. That made a real impression on the little boy.
Ron, This was so cool!! Thanks for taking us here!! My mom's parent's were proud to be from Missouri. And their roots run deep in the Ozarks. I thought it was interesting when the tour guide said that Jesse's mom had him buried there because she wanted to keep an eye on him. She had been through a lot w/ loosing part of her arm. One thing I know for a fact is that people from Missouri are tough!!!
Ron, I had watched this segment a while back. But after what I learned yesterday, I had to rewatch. My sister sent a print out, from her husbands family. She said he had always been told that he was related to Jesse James. The print out of the family history, shows Jesse James to be my brother in laws 2nd cousin 3x removed. I will have to share this story with her tomorrow. And what an awesome road trip this will make in the near future!
