This show has a theme about battling mental illness from trauma and developing your spirituality. I think people weren't ready to accept that when Korra came out. They saw it as weakness like they didn't understand why Aang didn't just kill Ozai. Today people watching have a different understanding about breakdowns and embracing spirituality. I think that's why some are realizing how good Korra really is. The show was just ahead of its time.

It’s like a thought experiment - what if the avatar were the exact opposite personality of Aang, oh, and also going through the teenage love torn years and dealing with a complex world with moral shades to every conflict. It’s a brave move. Korra has to grow in a completely different way. Also, the animation is great.

The series is actually well liked it has an 89% rating on rotten tomatoes and a 8.3 on imdb. And 4 out of 5 stars on Amazon. All those sites have hundreds of thousands of reviews. I think the issue people had with this show is people wanted more Aang. I still have friends who refuse to even touch this show because the main character isn't Aang. Plus some people have the need to compare and nitpick every small little thing Korra does in comparison to Aang. I love both shows so much, and am glad you are enjoying it too.
Well it’s more like Aang is a child that was a genocide survivor. Korra was taken care (maybe kinda coddle b4 the series started) off and is older like almost an adult. A decent flaw comparison to make is the “I’m confused…” kiss. Both characters shouldn’t have done it.
Korra is an amazing show! People just be hating because it was cool to do it. The storytelling is great, the characters are amazing. And the villains are insane.

But Legend of Korra in my opinion is a slight improvement over ATLA with music, fight scene choreography, and background art. I like the plots are more adult and the villains are more nuanced, but this means LoK has fewer funny gags than ATLA. In my opinion, the main legitimate criticism of Legend of Korra relative to ATLA is that the romantic subplots are fairly cringe. That said, I think all of the non-Sokka romantic subplots in ATLA were a little cringey. Another valid criticism of Legend of Korra is that ATLA was written with a three season arc planned while LoK was written piece by piece.
Korra is a great show. Nothing can compare to the original avatar and it shouldn’t be compared to that. Korra as a show is great, just keep an open mind and enjoy the journey!

Hi! Indeed LOK has a different enemy each season which is not a bad thing. All enemies in LOK are better than Ozaï, only Azula has more personality in ATLA and is a great vilain. LOK have the best vilains of all the franchise with each of them represent a theme/issue in real life. Amon is against discrimination and wants equality, but he makes it in an extremist way. LOK suffered from Nickelodeon's (bad) decisions. The haters of LOK comparing it to ATLA, are just idiot because the cartoon is made for a different more mature audience. So, that's why it resonated for you maybe a little more than ATLA even if ATLA was awesome. ATLA is perfect in his construction, not LOK because of the chaotic production it endured. This is the real big critical point everyone agreed. The other points is season 2, but it's not that bad to the point it destroyed the show. The haters want you to believe it's the worst thing when it's not! And because of toxic ATLA's fans, LOK has a bad name.

This series has its high points but some of the lows were really low. No spoilers
But book 2 is kinda flop, but Book 3 is absolutely amazing, the best book in the Avatar franchise.
Hopefully it’s not DREADFUL as that would suck….really enjoying Korra!
