Not any game by ea. There’s one I can think of. Cough cough Jedi fallen order cough cough. And then technically battlefront 2 post launch. I’m counting it as a separate game to battlefront 2 at launch.
I'd say that GTA Online could get an honorable mention here. Microtransactions are always bad, but with such economy like GTAO is stupid. You can grind in the most boring way for like... 1 month to get that one car or buy it with real money. But wait, this car can be tuned in the new garage that you buy for double the price of the car, then you have to research stuff for half the price of that car several times then etc etc
And now, they just price everything so absurdly high that they almost expect people to drop upwards of $100 after every content update if they want to keep up with the game. One plane could run you like 4 mil, which you could buy 8 million in game dollars for $100 usd. No way that’s fair.
The grinding is much better compared to other games. If you're clever with your grind and make use of discounts and events, you can make a tonne of money. I've already made upwards of 40million in the last 4 days itself. And no, I'm not playing 24hrs a day and I'm not glitching.
Just mod it on the pc, you can literally get all the online cars and everything, and if you wanna still be able to go online run an injector just be smart about it and you'll be fine
They don't charge to access the newest DLCs, they are FREE dood. The overwhelming majority of players, prob close to 90%spent only the purchase price of the game and 7 years later still can enjoy every DLC for that up front initial cost. It might seem easier for some to buy shark cards but it's def not impossible to make enough in game money for each DLC to get the one to three main items that make the game easier when they drop each DLC. There isnt a single game that can match the level of content added for free over its lifespan.
He forgot a game it's called apex legends I know heirlooms are supposed to be really rare but 500$ for a cosmetic that doesn't do anything different it's less than a 1 percent and a 7 percent for a legendary
I don't mind when games only do cosmetic micro transactions. Like I don't care if someone wants to buy a character wig. Companies can do that, and rich kids with too much money can buy that shit. As long as it doesn't affect gameplay.
That... doesn’t matter though. It’s a cosmetic item, they can price stuff like that at a thousand dollars and it still wouldn’t bother me. Yeah it’s stupid but it doesn’t affect playability of the game at all or doesn’t ruin anyone’s experience.
I never had an issue with the creation kit. To the best of my knowledge, it offered select fan made mods for free. Then Bethesda made a few that they would charge for.
All of this pails next to Order of Battle : world war 2 on the psn store, a turn based strategy game that sells as a 'full game' at £15.99. Then you see the 'full game' is actually only up until the end of 1939, to play any other campaigns from WW2 you have to buy up to SIXTEEN dlc at £12 a pop. For a grand total of £208 for the full experience, as a final slap in the face, these don't even take you all the way to 1945 and they still miss massive parts of the war out lol. GG publisher Slitherine, my top spot in shoddy greedy practise.
I used to play a game like that. At least I think. I am pretty sure I played in South Carribian as pirates, but there was this dude with a blade under his wrist in the middle east. Also, something about Italy was there. Who knows, maybe it was just a dream. Could it be AC Oddysey? No way....
9:00 To be perfectly fair, arcades are also extremely predatory cash grabs. Never understood why anyone would pay so much for a single try at a single game. At least if you bought the game it's yours forever.
People shouldn’t waste their time on Sims 4 honestly. Sims 3 is straight up better in every way other than graphics, even down to comparing the two without DLC.
I mean the whole Sims series is a huge cash grab. You literally buy same expansions for Sims 1, 2, 3, 4, just better graphics. And they really cost a lot (to buy all of them for sims 4 costs over 500 dollars!). Holds my second place after annual sport games (FIFA, NBA, NHL,...).
The problem with sims 3 was that no one could run the damn thing. I could only play it in short increments, but I agree. Sims 3 and 2 were the most fun
Fun fact, fallout 4 is actually guilty of the 1st crime. If you get the automatron dlc which allows you to build robots, there are other parts that you can't access without the nuka cola dlc. But if you just have the nuka cola dlc, you can't build robots so you can't access or use the parts 🙃 good old Bethesda
You should really look into Marvel Future Fight, last update alone they've introduced a new upgrade system that is designed to spend thousands and thousands of dollars. To get the materials needed for the upgrade you gamble, after that you gamble with the stuff you have gambled before (with premium currency). Other than that I feel like there are more premium currency packages than actual in game content. It's pretty sickening.
I'm very disappointed at Plants VS Zombies. After EA happened, they kicked George, and then made PVZ 2 full with powerups bullshit, plant level, and so on and so forth, and after that every products are just pure greed, like PVZ heroes, PVZ 3, etc, they have the word "DLC" printed on every aspect inside the software.
All the content you’ve covered isn’t the worst of it. The worst is this. All new games have TOS clauses effectively giving the manufacturers absolute control over the games you pay for. This means, you can invest 10,000 hours into game, spend 10k on micro transactions, and then just like that, the gaming company deactivates your game and access forever, without any warning, and there isn’t much you can do about it. I know. IT HAPPENED TO ME with fallout 76. Look at the back of your packaging box. The terms of service are there in Uber small print. This is the same as the UK PPI scandal and is highly illegal. But they do it anyway.

I think consoles are built and sold at a loss, the new xbox and ps5 will be built/sold at a loss but they make their profit of the games, services etc, well that's what I think, others may know more than me.
When was that? Was it around the same time that they were tossing around the idea of letting your top 10 friends play your game library for free? But dropped the whole idea because it included always online DRM on the console?
Yeah shark cards are over priced they would probably make more money if they lowered the price and gave more money. Because people would be more inclined to buy a shark card, but the shark cards give us free DLC
@@duck-o9151 They also were bad in the past. E. g. id Software open-sourced their game engines when they didn't used them anymore, since they got bought out by Bethesda that stopped. When Mojang wanted to release their card game "Scrolls", ZeniMax (Bethesda's parent) sued them cause of the name.
It's like Nickelback... everyone hating on Bethesda and EA... because it's cool to hate on them. What they don't realise is that Blizzard have been doing subscription and micro transactions for over 20 years
Wasn't it Azura's Wrath that locked the last chapter, and therefore actual ending, of a single player, story mode only game behind a DLC paywall? That's pretty greedy as far as I'm concerned.
This needs to be a Top 50 or Top 100, because there are so many you missed. Ubisoft has done some greedy things. Rockstar with GTA and RDR Online. Didn't one game charge for a target reticule? So many that need to be added. I think this could be a weekly series.
@Storkoid yes they are... Haven't you noticed how much they milk GTAO just because of the "shark cards"? They milk it so much that they forget they have other games.
in 2025 games will be like: This is Game with 60$: It only include a map, if you want to play full version you need to pay for 10$ for character 10$ for each cloth your character wear 10$ for attacking 10$ for walking 10$ to look around and another 25$ for enemies to show up and bosses will cost money too and everything dont forget the dlc
I remember when the game was more important than the money Hell even the earliest of shooters, Doom, that game was technically free, and the developers didn't care, none of the money goes to them anyways And now that it has exploded, and sprouted into the foundations of every game since, and even had a rebirth in Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal It's devs each have a heart of solid gold to make it totally free And i'm not saying all games should be free, i'm just saying we need less greedy people making games And more people who actually care about the games they're making to make the games they love
What he meant by that was, I think, something along the following lines: ‘We’ve been greedy as hell for quite a while now, pushing out half-assed products by the boatload, and there are still enough of you morons to buy our shit. So you see, all of this just works. I don’t know how or why, but it somehow does.’
I'm dealing with a difficult emotional family emergency in life right now, and I am so grateful for Gameranx existing to help cope with some smiles. Thank you Falcon and the Team.
I'll be honest... Sometimes, they feel like unnecessary evils. No one likes them, no one likes microtransactions, and no one is going to like you if you do that.
But that is exactly it people still buy into it and spend tons of money on it which is why they made that much money to begin with people like this shit
"It's not technically illegal..." But it should be. Imagine if you bought a phone that was specifically advertised as a "phone that doesn't shoot your cat." Then, 3 months after you buy this phone, it downloads a software update, reboots, pulls out a gun and shoots your cat. There would be legal ramifications for this. Claiming "this software will never have X" and then introducing X 6 months after launch is ABSOLUTELY false advertising and should be prosecuted. Claiming "this software doesn't have X" and doing the same may not technically be illegal, but I'm pretty sure the strong majority of people on this planet would agree that it should be.
I think it is illegal. Even leaving out info on certain things that you know people hate can be considered a lie by omission or false advertising. The problem is that few entities will take action against the companies.
Remember those terms of service stuff you click through before everything, there is a line that says "We reserve the right to update these terms...". This basically means this shit is legal. BTW when you 'buy' a game, you actually buy a right to play said game. They still own the game. They provide you the service to play it, hence terms of service.
To be fair GTA Online has a casino in it,the thing is at least in GTA Online you have other things to do aswel, races or mission or heists or many many other things, now idk about NB2K cuz i never played it but i assume is a basketball game right? well that's all you can do then and after a while it gets boring and repetitive so your other option is gambling,i don't defend GTA but its the lesser evil considering you have a crap load of other things you can do in addition to gambling XD so both are kinda shitty and downright gambling "sites"/apps but GTA is kinda better in the sense that you have more options
Not really a casino just ball drops you get from wins and they used the first myteam trailer for this video and after the hate that trailer got about the casino elements 2K changed it so a little outdated info but I do agree 2K is greedy af and Ante up is the real casino in the game, you gamble your vc on games you play.
Ironically RGT 85 have the game good reviews and even defended the most egregious pay wall from hell of the franchise. Yet he tore Y2k Playgrounds 2 to shreds, when it wasn't bad at all. It was easy to treat that game like NBA Jam and earn my characters without spending a cent.
Blood, Sweat, and Beers online everything is overpriced and the shark cards can’t even buy much. Payouts are ass and you have to grind hours on end to even buy something. And they said fuck the single player dlc for online, which I’ll never forget.
the bad thing about the sims dlc isn't that they put out a dlc that requires another one to make full use of the stuff they're selling. the greedy thing is, that all that shit from the stuff pack should have been in the expansion pack in the first place.
I wish more people watched this types of videos more often and remembered to not support any kind of microtransactions in the game industry. On reality sadly they act exactly like the Fry meme "shut up and take my money" every time the company makes a fan service.
some transactions are worth while, as in well made dlcs, cosmetic items that don't affect gameplay (TF2 is a great example), or a small starter pack for $2.99 or cheaper. when it gets outrageous (like gtao, SWBF:2, NBA2K, etc) it just sucks.
Yeah some microtransactions are alright, Look at Path of Exile for example, its a great game and it sells JUST cosmeticts so its doing great. Theres a problem when those microtransactions include purchasing of the game (like, I bought the game, why do I need to pay again to access some new content?) and unfair advantages (stats/boosters you cant get in game). The only reason for a DLC to be bought with money is if the DLC is actually big and expands the game a lot, not like Sims 4 where they add like 5 new items and thats it.
The culling pissed me off so much! I literally bought the early access version on Xbox one and was never able to play it a month after launch!!! The worst part is that I will never be able to get that $40 back because no one plays the game and there are no refunds! Even though you can literally buy a game you cannot even play at all!!! Still!
I don't know anything about the Culling, but the way Falcon describes it, I'm guessing you only get about 10 minutes a day on it without paying a sub fee, whereas at least in WoW you can pay for a month at a time, 24/7 access, minus every Tuesday.
@Hiroto Yakuza coc ,clash royale, brawl stars has a lot of fucking microtransactions just like any mobile game these annoying things are the reason I only play pc and console games
NBA 2K is so lucky that there's no competition for them actually, each year they just sell the same game with the same shit and after you pay 55us for the game then you need to pay to get better with your player, that or play a ton of time grinding and shit. I hope somehow EA can make a better game so 2K can suck it
Agreed dude. It sucks to be a basketball fan because you literally just have to suck it up and eat 2K's shit. I wish there was another option. I just don't buy them anymore though (unless they are on sale for
At this point they might as well being another EA or even worse. Remembered they tried to sell 2K21 for 70 dollars for next gen and tried to use Kobo Bryant to boost their sales. It's disgusting.

When was that?
Was it around the same time that they were tossing around the idea of letting your top 10 friends play your game library for free? But dropped the whole idea because it included always online DRM on the console?

Microtransactions just ruin games for me now, these greedy companies have no integrity
It ruins it sometimes
I remember when the game was more important than the money
Hell even the earliest of shooters, Doom, that game was technically free, and the developers didn't care, none of the money goes to them anyways
And now that it has exploded, and sprouted into the foundations of every game since, and even had a rebirth in Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal
It's devs each have a heart of solid gold to make it totally free
And i'm not saying all games should be free, i'm just saying we need less greedy people making games
And more people who actually care about the games they're making to make the games they love
they all need some goddam tegridy

"It's not technically illegal..."
But it should be.
What a beautiful paragraph I just read.

NBA 2K: *We have a casino in the game*
IMHO you nailed it with "there is a casino in the game"...my ironic laughter kept me from hearing the rest...

They should keep it to just dlc or cosmetics, no pay to win bs unless its an mmo or something like that which give you starter boosts
