This clip was from the movie The Devil's Brigade. The location was Camp Williams, at the the south end of the Salt Lake Valley, in Utah. It was filmed in 1967. I was there as a student 'extra', along with a large number of other BYU students. We were paid $15 a day. That was almost a month's rent for me, back then. Thanks for the memories.
my roots are in scotland , and we still want the UK to be united, the Union Jack that took over almost half the world, LONG LIVE THE BRITISH EMPIRE..............
I am aware that america is broke and i am not even american. i am from scotland so i say stay out of the past and forget the british empire because it is never coming back.
i get the feeling you are one of those "rule Britannia" types. stuck in the past and refuses to leave even if he could. the british empire is no more and the UK is bankrupt. this is coming from someone who was born in scotland and lives in scotland. i don't care about america's situation.
The Boer war was really the first time that the English had an enemy that they had to fight on equal terms. The English troops literally marched to their death in that they kept formation, giving the Boers a turkey shoot. The Boers were never going to win, in any case. The odds of 18 to 1 was never going to be an even fight. The scorched earth policy, combined with the concentration camps saw to that.
Yep, the Highlanders tactic back in the 1600-1700s or before was to charge the enemy even if they were getting gunned down with their swords; did not do them any favours though.
They ran away just like the English. They were losing, and the majority of them were dead (Scottish and English). What else were they supposed to do? In almost every other battle, they stood their ground because that was the orders they were given (As did the English I'm sure). I'm sure if everyone by their side was dieing during those battles, they would have ran away also.
Napoleon dismissed the Scots when they marched upon his lines, he even went as far as to say "Wellington has nothing else to offer but these Amazonians?". After Waterloo, he said nothing. We may not be a big or powerful nation, but we have an undeniable love for our country (most of the time) and have always been strong and proud fighters.
Scottishwolf89 My favorite: Samuel Johnson cracked wise that oats are fed to English horses and to Scottish men. A Scot answered, "Aye, that's why England is proud of its horses and Scotland her men."
Scottishwolf89 My French-Acadian family is from Northern Nova Scotia (Latin, meaning 'New Scotland') The flag has the Scottish lion . I've seen Highlanders...and am proud of them. I think the world would be a lot better off if the Scots ruled it.

There were any number of other harebrained Churchillian schemes which actually did little damage in practice because, very fortunately, he was never able to get enough support to initiate the projects in question.
The Scottish army might be small, but they are one of the strongest and most patriotic armies out there to today. Just image if they where as big as America, the things they could, the enemy's they could squish (Not saying they can't right now ;) )
In fact, insofar as central or eastern Europe were "turned over to Stalin" at the end of World War Two this was, notoriously, decided at the Yalta Conference in February '45 - at which Churchill, of course, represented Britain.
On July 18, 2007 Mebo's electronics engineer, Ulrich Lumpert, admitted he had given false evidence about the timer at the Lockerbie trial. In a sworn affidavit before a Zurich notary, Lumpert stated that he had stolen a prototype MST-13 timer PC-board from Mebo and that he gave it without permission on June 22, 1989, to "an official person investigating the Lockerbie case".
"But exhaustive forensic tests carried out on behalf of Megrahi’s defence team proved in 2009 that although the fragment of circuit board apparently came from the bomb’s timer, it did not actually match any of the timers which had been sold to Libyan intelligence." "There was now no evidence that the Lockerbie bomb had a Libyan timer."

The bagpipes were once used as a weapon of war against the Ancient Romans. I think. Apparently, the Scottish used those on a foggy day, and the Romans got spooked. By the time the Scottish got ready to do battle, the Romans were already gone.
Good evening SAM. Our little Nevadan friend informed us a little while back that "Peace thru strength" is the motto of the Strategic Air Command, whereas (as I am sure you already know) the SAC motto is of course "Peace is Our Profession". As our friend himself pointed out, as an SAC veteran he would be bound to know it because it is emblazoned on every SAC base. Yet somehow he managed to get it wrong.
Chamberlain recognised the threat from Germany, Italy and Japan. It was inconceivable in Europe that another war would take place. Hitler gambled on invading Poland and we declard war. Hitler gambled on the UK not entering a war with him and continued peace overtures well into 1941. There was also an issue of the terms of versailles being way too strong, so a back peddle to the original status quo was perhaps a way of avoiding a war. Still with me?
Hitler and the Nazis considered that "communism was dangerous to the well-being of nations because of its intention to dissolve private property, its support of class conflict, its aggression against the middle class, its hostility towards small businessmen, and its atheism. Nazism rejected socialism and economic egalitarianism, favouring instead a stratified economy with social classes retaining private property, and the creation of national solidarity that would transcend class distinctions".
Attlee was very far from rat or mouse-like. He was a very formidable man, although - unlike Churchill - unfailingly modest, unassuming and unpretentious. And he achieved far more than Churchill ever did, or ever could, have. You simply don't know what you are talking about.
My husband is part Dutch, part Scot, part Blackfoot, and all American. I'm of Scottish heritage, and all American. My best friends are of Irish heritage in one case, African in another, Mexican in another, and all are American. To be American is to be part of the world. I've been to Scotland, they were kind and warm, though I was obviously American. RMB, I don't think the world is as unfriendly as you think it is, if you give it a chance. My last post here for a bit.
It is nice to be back Molly. Just give me a while to readjust to home. I don't think we behaved badly on the high seas given the standards of the day. In fact, compared to most, we were very civilised and gentlemanly. It is interesting that many worlds navies were Brit trained after 1815...and not just Empire ones.
Beautiful song. And not too bad a movie, even if it does have a lot of Hollywood cliches and inaccuracies common to war movies of the time. But one historical inaccuracy I will point out: WWII Canadian infantry did not wear kilts as a field uniform. As a formal uniform, or as parade dress perhaps. But I saw an interview with a veteran and former soldier in the Devil's Brigade on the Canadian History Channel, and he insisted that he never wore a kilt in his life. More typically would be khaki uniforms with pants and steel helmets, instead of kilts and tam 'o' shanters.
It's a far better world when truth is respected and integrity honored. These people actually feed an agitprop tool (the BBC) that refuses to use the word "terrorist" as if terrorism doesn't exist. Your heart is in the right place but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Never give jerks an even break. Call them out because the knife in your back will be theirs if money is involved. We saw it with Basra and the UK bugout while Yanks died and they pretended to be on our side. Hugs
America has the best medical care in the world. ER must treat all comers. We take care of young and needy and elderly in government programs. Others are responsible for their own medical care. We subscribe to the idea of personal not group responsibility. It's our system and we like it. We don't dig rationed care and death panels.
Hitler adopted the appropriate word "socialism" because it applied to his movement. It was a popular concept from the days of Bismark and even admired by Churchill was Bismark's socialized medicine concept.

However, the most important revelation of the evening so far is that you don't even know the motto of the Strategic Air Command. That finally, decisively disposes of your claims to have been in the SAC - in any capacity, let alone as an aviator with the rank of colonel. What a pity SAM and HHG weren't here to witness it.

Yalta wasn't a treaty and hence Attlee wasn't bound by an agreement of prior governments. A leader would lead to change Yalta agreement if he wasn't a zero and mouse who never roared. Attlee had zero reputation as a world leader while WSC was a giant.

"Tony Gauci knew a reward was on offer and inquired about payment before he first picked out a photograph of Megrahi in February 1991. His brother Paul, who didn’t give evidence at the trial but was considered an important part of the case, frequently raised the subject with the police." "Between 2003 and 2007, the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission carried out a painstaking review of the Lockerbie evidence, in response to Megrahi’s application for a second appeal."
"One of the most sensational items it unearthed was a letter written in 2002 by the senior investigation officer of the Scottish police team to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Terrorist And Violent Crime Unit after Megrahi’s first appeal had been unsuccessful."

The inscription at the entrance of every SAC bases was "Peace thru Strength". James peed his pants upon mentioning this and I'm not sure why. The crew sounds like that of the Martha Anne nationality wise. The main thing about crews of ships is to NOT have an Italian at the helm.
Scotland forever. 🏴
"But exhaustive forensic tests carried out on behalf of Megrahi’s defence team proved in 2009 that although the fragment of circuit board apparently came from the bomb’s timer, it did not actually match any of the timers which had been sold to Libyan intelligence."
"There was now no evidence that the Lockerbie bomb had a Libyan timer."
When you pick a fight with the old british veteren and suddenly a health bar appears
Patient in Scotland tipped onto the floor during surgery while staff gossiped and texted. Filthy Scotland the brave if you are dropped during surgery. Way to go. Magrahi was lucky to get out alive notwithstanding the deceit, lies, and oil deal our brave Scottish Salmond and Brown cooked up. Long live Scotland the unbrave..
Jack Watson. R.I.P.
I love this song , and I was also born in Scotland
A big Anglo hug to you as well mate. If I could, I'd buy you a nice warm beer.......
one of the greatest's rythmes of all times
Hitler adopted the appropriate word "socialism" because it applied to his movement. It was a popular concept from the days of Bismark and even admired by Churchill was Bismark's socialized medicine concept.
Something you could read with benefit is any account of the engagement between HMS "Shannon" and USS "Chesapeake".
I love Scotts..! The only thing that I dislike about them is the aggressive conduct and behavior that comes after, when they have been drinking too much! Scotts are friendly... if they have not been submerged in scotch for too long. Love their country, their customs, their cities...
If you're not British but recognise the tune then we probably colonised you. Be thankful.
I regret to have to point out that three days earlier - in attacks lasting only 90 minutes - the Japanese sank, or forced to beach, a total of 18 American warships . . including four capital ships, severely damaged numerous other warships, including four more capital ships, and destroyed or damaged 347 US aircraft.
Best soldiers in the world.
He was well known to be a friend of Thatcher, and an enthusiastic Tory . . what else? And of all British TV personalities he was the most American - self-consciously, and quite deliberately, so - in his manner . . brash, loud, in-your-face, arrogant and aggressive.
Grandmother, 84, phones home to son saying she cannot breathe. He arrives at NHS hospital finding mom dead and alarm ringing and no personnel around. Thanks Nanny for your compassionate care. Thank heavens UK has no capital punishment for criminals. Only the innocent die at Nanny's hand in the UK What a lovely bunch of coconuts!
"And yet by the time of his trial, more than 11 years later, Gauci’s idea of what this strangely behaved man looked like had changed so much that he had no problem confirming that the man in the dock certainly resembled the mystery purchaser."
To my freedom loving brothers and sisters in Scotland the 18th approaches, oh yes it draws nigh independence, isn't that a sweet sound a word until earned cannot carry weight, a sound unless fought for means what? Let your sons and daughters stand as a free and responsible people both ready and able to determine their own future to the way they see fit and not of another leadership to determine their fate, the british have embarked on a great campaign once again to sway you're vote but in the true spirit of democracy I say bow to no one teach your future generations to look to each other for guidance and not of a foreign body and their in lies true freedom....the choice is yours keep it only yours

to Angelslinesmom it could be 1of the many pipe band's Scot's regiment's have for instance the Royal Scot's Dragoon guard's or the Argyll and Sutherland Highlander's.In the 60s their were about 10 Scot's regiment's with pipe band's or it maybe it could be a Canadian pipe band. The credit's at the end could help you
War of 1812 of course. We both agree we beat you in War of Independence "to to the victor (Gen Washington) went the spoils (the sword of surrender and independence )" at Yorktown.
The only reason we stopped 'behaving badly on the high seas' was because we no longer needed to...not because we were stopped. ......detente declaed over!! I think you'll find there are a few instances when the US forces ran...quite a few in fact.
On Magraghi Freedom Day all Scots chant "Better Red than Dead" cha, cha, cha zip boom bah. God Save the English Gracious Queen, cha, cha, cha, too. Look at the lovely tartan bought with the 30 pieces of silves Gadafi gave us!!!! Come to Hollyrood and have a lookie for yourself. So regal wearing it. Thanks Libya.
We love them Scotts - we fukkin love em !!
And, as I pointed out to you before, the information which I related about the frame-up of Megrahi - far from coming from the "Guardian" - was reproduced from YOUR favourite source, the "Daily Mail".
fabuleux j adore
You are drooling down your straight-jacket again.
wonderful music ..
Yalta wasn't a treaty and hence Attlee wasn't bound by an agreement of prior governments. A leader would lead to change Yalta agreement if he wasn't a zero and mouse who never roared. Attlee had zero reputation as a world leader while WSC was a giant.
Never fear, I'll resurrect in three days. And back in your face
magic xxxxx
i luv the sound of bagpipes
Welcome back sir!!
lovely and patriotic
Una música muy clásica y buena
So, what was the motto of SAC....or is that classified like the B-52. lol. Opening a can of whoop-ass eh? Is that to compliment all the humble pie you have been eating. BTW, the crew of the yacht were mixed. The skipper is British, as are the Engineers and deck crew, the 2 Chefs were Japanese and French, the stewards/stewardesses were from some place between Mexico and the Canadian border except for the owners personal attendant, who was a Malayan/Japanese mix.
Bless the Scottish
"Tony Gauci knew a reward was on offer and inquired about payment before he first picked out a photograph of Megrahi in February 1991. His brother Paul, who didn’t give evidence at the trial but was considered an important part of the case, frequently raised the subject with the police."
"Between 2003 and 2007, the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission carried out a painstaking review of the Lockerbie evidence, in response to Megrahi’s application for a second appeal."
"One of the most sensational items it unearthed was a letter written in 2002 by the senior investigation officer of the Scottish police team to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Terrorist And Violent Crime Unit after Megrahi’s first appeal had been unsuccessful."
In fact during the early thirties Churchill was an admirer of Mussolini and of the Nazi youth.
