i stepped up from my 125 to a new cb750 hornet, it'll do 0-60 in something like 3.5 seconds. The accelleration gives me a real kick in the ass and i still get the 'jeezus' moment when i hit the throttle hard, i think it will always be enough fun for me, & can't really imagine more on a litre sports bike, and i'm not sure i want to play around on something looking to 'get me' anyway lol, but im still a youngster at only 62, maybe when i'm older i'll grow a bigger pair of cahoonas & try one. I had a '06 R1. After having six 1000cc bikes - a 1988 Kawasaki ZX10, a 1993 Yamaha FZR 1000, a 1996 Yamaha YZF 1000R Thunderace, a 1998 Yamaha R1, a 2000 Yamaha R1 and a 2003 Yamaha R1 - you'd think that I'd be used to them but riding the '06 R1 felt like going back to a 600cc: lighter and more agile than the previous ones but deceivingly powerful and quick. Just a little below 6000 rpm and it was already doing 160km/h (~99mph), and it still had another 8000 rpm left until the redline! Not to mention being capable of doing 165km/h (~103mph) in 1st gear!
Out of the six, it was the best litre bike I've ever owned, closely followed by the Thunderace. 🙂

It really doesn't..... maybe if it's your first bike, but I owned an 08 R1 (funnily enough) back in 2008, my second bike (after a Ninja 636) with only a single years riding experience.
The only thing that surprised me, not scared, was the torque - it was noticeable as soon as you pulled away! The R1 was great fun, a missile that saw an indicated 185, did an indicated 110 in first gear (until I dropped a tooth and fitted a speedo healer) and chewed up long trips with ease.
But it was never scary - you treat it with respect, same as any bike, and you'll be fine

My first litre bike experience was underwhelming however it was an early 2000s zx10 I was used to riding a 13 636. Since then I sold the 636 and bought a 2020 MT-10 and I absofuckinglutely LOVE it. The torque is equal if not a touch higher than the R1 but it's not stretched across the power band as far as the R1 so its very light on the front end. I have not had the chance to ride a proper litre bike like an R1 or s1000rr. So I have yet to feel that insane top end pull.

I cut my teeth with IL4 sportsbikes back in 2005 when I had that 18500Rpm screamer of a ZXR250. It taught you to expect the top end rush of an IL4 powerband. Going onto a 1997 ZX6R 2 years after that, it felt like there was more of everything. You had the quick acceleration, the powerband, the first time the clocks saw 150mph. Following that, I had a 929 FireBlade which just felt like a torquier 600.
The step change came when I went onto my 4C8 R1, as per your vid. It was like an R6 with more meatier power delivery, power band included. Despite the fact that you can use it as a 6th gear twist and go or launch it in first everywhere until the shift light comes on past 80mph, it just felt at home on track. The point is, if you know how to react to the power delivery and respect that the laws of physics and energy conservation are still applicable and are more consequential on something that capable, then you'll enjoy it. Sadly, UK track days are getting more expensive with more prohibitive noise restrictions, and the roads are full of self entitled non-attentive road users, it's not worth the risk to go out for a moment of frenzy.
Still have the R1 and still have my Gen 1 Fazer Thou. Would rather ride the Fazer on the road since the chassis is more suited to poor surfaces compared to my R1, with suspension set up for track. Still somewhat prefer the riding position and mad power delivery of the R1, only if it wasn't illegal to do the latter.

I used to race an '86 FZ600 and my buddy had an FZ750. I actually had faster lap times on my 600 than he did because I was not afraid of going fast in the fast corners. That was the only way I could make up for lack of top speed in the straights and anyone can go fast in slow corners. However, when I got on his 750 not even on the track I thought the bike was going to rip my arms off trying to stay on it.

    You are riding the 4C8
that was great bike bit to top end really why they went cross plane
Had yamahas for 30 years I've ridden most of them unfortunately they became weak low down and to rev related for racing.. my last R1 was the cross plane 14B very fast however on the road gearing wasn't great ran hot loved it
I now have an MT10 much better in the real world for road riding
Sport bikes are now not so popular and hyper naked make a lot more sense in many respects

I ride a 1300 Hyabusa, I wonder if a liter sports bikes weight and ergonomics makes it more scarier than a Busa. I only ever rode 600 super sports. (R6 currently)

    • @JamieThomas1000

Hmmmmm, im not sure, the raw power and torque of that busa probably makes up for the weight, probably easier to put it down as well.

Yamaha didn't make a V4 R1 - they changed the crank configuration and firing order in 2010 (I think) which makes the engine sound like a V4. It's called the 'Crossplane' or 'Big Bang' engine 😊

I bought an R1, brand new one, was going to pick it up in a week or two but I decided I didn’t think I’d like how much power it would have and how bad these bikes are at low speed. Got a 2019 R6 instead (coming from a 2003). Feel like a 600 is the sweet spot for shitty English roads lol

    • @JamieThomas1000
      @JamieThomas1000  7 месяцев назад

The r1 would have been mental but you will have more fun on the R6 being able to get to the redline and still have a license. Not like that 19 R6 is slow by any means, it'll still rip your arms off.

Sorry but I’m not sure I can trust the word or opinion of anyone who has those awful Chineseium blade mirrors on their bike 🤦‍♂️😂 I’m assuming that’s a 4c8 ? It looks and sounds like one and tbf they are probably one of the worst 1000cc bikes for a newbie , I had a ex iom TT trackbike one and they are like a 2 stroke flat as a fart like a 600 until they get to 8-9k then they try to murder u to death 😂 amazing chassis tho , probably one of the best handling bikes I’ve ridden . Most modern 1000cc bikes are pussy cats in comparison, just turn all the electronics on and put it in a soft map and they are easy to ride . Old school stuff is far more challenging

They are terrible and the originals are going on at the weekend. I really didn't know what I was expecting when I got it. I didn't think it could be that different from my GSXR 600.
