3:06 سمرقند العجم This refers to Samarqand which is a place in modern day Uzbekistan. This city is well known for being a centre of Muslim scholarship during the Islamic early ages. The word Samarqand itself is not natively Arab and is from Sogdian which means stone fort/town.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE hearing the original Arabic, the rhythm and music of the language is so relaxing along with the tone of voice, and then hearing a summary of what happened makes me feel like I'm understanding, it is in fact a very dreamy and surreal sensation. I am such a fan of Arab Dad. Good night x
That's mean. We're allowed to participate and appreciate, thank you very much! 😂😂😂 This was wonderful, thank you and the book donor! 👍👍💪💪🥰✌️🇨🇦@@tzaph67
I like that you have an English accent when you speak Arabic (the letter ق sounds like ك). It’s barely noticeable and gets softer the more you read but it’s really cool and somehow in character ❤
Finally a video in Arabic yeyyyyy!! We’ve all been begging you for this one!! Arabic really is the prettiest language of them all ✨ More 1001 nights stories pleaseeee
This is my favorite Arab Dad ASMR. Please read more of the story, habibi. It is so beautiful and sleep inducing. Thank you for all of the work you put into these vids for us, we are most grateful. ❤
Awwww this is so nostalgic, I had completely forgot about my mum reading me these stories to sleep. As soon as I saw the book cover the memories all flooded in 🥺
Arab dad, thank you so much for reading Arabian Nights in Arabic! ❤🥰 Also, in answer to your question around whether to read the same chapter in English, I'm happy for you to keep reading in Arabic coz you translate it for us anyway (with the funny interludes). BTW, after watching your previous videos, I bought the English version (Sir Richard F. Burton translation), and just turned to the first chapter - it appears to be the one you read today but with a different title - it's called 'The Tale of Scheherazade' 😊

YES! YES! YES!!!! Oh, this was such a nice surprise!!! I love it!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Yes, please read more of this!!! Funny how you usually don't finish a story either... hmmmm... are you related to Scheherazade, by any chance? 😂 Thank you so much for this!!! Regarding the language, I would prefer you continue in the way you read today. I already know the story/ stories, and I even listen to it/them in one of my native languages (Romanian), but it was a real treat to listen to it in Arabic and I would like (a lot) more of it!!! It was one of my favourites growing up! Thank you, again! I won't say "no" or click off if you read them in English either, but since you asked ...😂 Much health to Larry! May he feel much better soon! He is terribly missed! 😻❤
Thank you so much for this😀 And, thank you to the kind and generous donar(?) who gave money so Rudy could get this book for his "dad" to read. Best wishes to Larry the Cat
The Portuguese and Spanish languages have Arabic in it. I’m slowly learning Arabic on my own. I understand some so far. I need to practice. I asked the local library if I can practice with fluent Arabic speakers they said they don’t have that yet. I will keep on asking until someone volunteers. I can’t afford to pay someone, hopefully someone will want to teach me. :-)
You have to focus on a certain dialect, unless you want to learn Classical Arabic which is very beautiful but quite a challenge and no one actually speaks it in real life. I can help you with Classical Arabic or the Egyptian dialect.
I listened again, so I could fall asleep. So, thank you for that. Also, I would listen to the same passage in English, but, the Arabic is so soothing. So, I am glad you were willing to read in it.
Oh thank you SO much for this! I’ve listened to it 3 nights for sleep and it’s beautiful ❤️ I also like your little comic asides in English every so often. I will definitely buy you a coffee or donate to say thank you. Would you consider reading some Arabic poetry? I’ve been watching some of your other videos - am so used to Arab Dad, it was strange hearing your American accent lol! Hope Larry is recovering well and thanks again.
You have to do all 1001 nights since you started this. Besides just the stories we need the background about how the king’s wife decide to tell these stories so he doesn’t kill her.
Rudy if you enjoy reading the same chapter in english, I would gladly listen to it! Otherwise there is no problem. But please read the second part of this chapter 😃!!
I think u should allow yourself to give more comments and opinions on what you read after you translate it your own way it's very nice. For exemple you debate this or that about what a character does. Coz when we read novels by ourselves we may say out loud "my brother whyyy would you go this way are u dumb i dooon't underrrrstand"
Hmm I think we'd have to courier the book (unless it's an ebook) but then international shipping could make it too expensive. Alternatively, we can donate to the channel via the link in the description box. Oh - we can also email gift cards to the address in the description box.
Oh no, no, no! This was so good until the English translations started. This AMSR, it is all about the soothing sounds, no one give a heck about the story, we don't need to hear the janky English words, just read it in Arabic, it is so beautiful and relaxing!
I totally disagree. I liked that he was very kind and explained the story. He didn't have to do that at all. That is the part that I thoroughly enjoyed. I liked all of it, but I thought he went the extra mile to explain everything and I really appreciate that.
If you don't mind the correction: "Karma" (with the 'r') is the reference to the cosmic law of cause and effect, but the word you're looking for is "kama" (title of the ancient text) which usually means desires. They are pronounced the same in the West, thus the confusion, but actually they sound quite distinct in the East - for instance, the 'r' sound is well emphasized.
You're right, it can be funny, but then I realise it must get tiring for the recipient. Like a long time ago, I read Marilyn Monroe felt sad that she was objectified, coz it affected the kind of roles she got to play and how she was treated, which made me realise we can inadvertently limit people by our compliments. I mean, if we value only one or two facets of a person, that kinda sends them a msg that there's nothing more to love in them. Or that's all they are good at. Also, I think there is a mirroring effect in life - like when we see more worth in ourselves, we also see more worth in other people. That makes us capable of giving them more holistic compliments than just their looks or sex appeal, which I believe is a gift that keeps on giving! ❤
@@seoul_searcher you're offering some very good philosophical observations here. I really appreciate that. I think the objectifying comments are pretty cringe-worthy actually. But I also don't understand the critiques. They seem unkind and totally unnecessary to me. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks so much for your comment here.
Don't forget to put the link in the description for donations to Larry's surgery. There's a lot of Larry love out here.
