Able Body Front Loaders--residential trash

- Athens Services at work in Glendora, California. The specific goal was to further document the front loaders manufactured by Able Body Sales. This body design bears some similarity to front loaders we saw from Stagg and C&O that were produced in the late 80s/early 90s, and I think it's attractive. Haul-Away Rubbish and Southland Disposal are the only other known haulers to currently run ABS front loaders with this 'curved-edge' design.
Didn't waste much time on Amreps in the area; they're a little more oft-seen than these. And the video was filmed late in the day so drivers/swampers were hustling...
This has been a longtime priority, so I hope you will enjoy~
Thanks to Athens Services and its employees! Also a thank-you to the friendly residents of the city of Glendora for keeping peace..since 1911.
Must be fun in the cab...Love the sound this new camera captures...A lot of loose trash, must suck cleaning behind the blade. Excellent job, as always. Great to see more documentation of these.
See this is what we need around socal scott! Up in gelndora there are peaceful and nice drivers.
wow. awesome job!!!! its really nice to see old trucks like this still doing manual trash routes in california! great video!!!!
Man these trucks are looooong. The first WXLL was mad cool with the no door sit down drive ghetto resi setup, but the second one sounded better IMO. The quick crews made for a great vid. Awesome all around.
Cool truck, and these guys know how to load stuff.
Sweet, always nice to see more ABS around. I was under the impression Athens did away with these beasts, so this was a pleasant surprise. Dang, that first one sounded niice. I see we entered the HD world! Definitely different seeing a swamper riding the bucket, probably a big no-no with RS and WM. Interesting ghetto setup there, just took the door off, lol. Nice sound at idle too. Does Athens run any of their old Maxons on residential still? Geez, four man crew on that Amrep?
New camera I see? Awesome sounding trucks, hopefully they'll be around for a while longer. Sweet angle at 3:23, would've been epic if he had done a full packing cycle right there. And has the first truck always done residential? I see they just ripped the door off of a WXLL. nice video!
Never got around to actually making a real comment on this :/ Seems like those oldies run pretty well and hold more capacity in them compared to the newer trucks they have. And 4 guys on that Amrep? How the hell did that work with that small dumpster? Good work
This is so cool old ones bc they have in 2006 in came form Azusa CA so this truck are broken down old ones away we’ll be brand new in 1165 and 82
Great job!! It seems kinda dangerous riding on the can
When was this filmed? Do you know what type bins those around 4:50 were, the beige square ones no lids? First truck sounds unique, likes he's in neutral all the time or the engine just never settles down lol. Don't think you'll see two Able Bodies on one street too often either. Awesome video! Enjoying the new camera I bet ;)
AIR BENDER THERE IS ONLY ONE STICK SIGN CONT DRACULA ALBE BODY
good video d'ont stop.
fucking loved it!!!!
Beige cans are made by Cornerstone
Are Athens services merged with NorCal waste? Because I've never seen a NorCal
no problem :)
Whose the guy in the tux running at 3:11 ??
Manual trash with an FL and two guys loading up, so nothing slow and boring to watch. I like the speed of these teams, driver gets straight out there for the bigger set-ups too, no sitting in the cab like a lazy lump hehe I'm curious about the situation with riding on the carry cans up there, is it still common and unique to certain regions or practiced anywhere in the US? Find it funny seeing guys riding on the can at the front; if you're a driver and don't like your helper you can shake him off or dump him in the back :P Love the sound of the first truck, especially when he stops and starts running the packer. Also speaking of the packer, do these have half or full height blades? Looks like they were packing out around 3:20 too, can see all the rubbish piled up and not moving too much in the hopper. Seeing you zoom in slowly at 2:00, I bet you were expecting him to dump it before driving off! haha
+MitchellM15 lol basically (was) just exclusive to Southern California...and there's *significantly * less of it now, even there, than anytime since like 1960...really a shame. But I can come up with a couple places that are staying manual with FL, where the driver has a helper go and ride the can. If you've seen Mike's recent vids there's one of a nice orange Maxon FL doing trash that way in Nevada...but again just a small company and not to be found anywhere besides the west much. These have full height blades, but since recycling is removed via a 'dirty MRF' there is a shit ton to collect, so these trucks pack out earlier / more often than usual.
In my area there are mean and nasty that make up HALF OF THE COMPANY!
Athens bought NorCal's southern california's assets. TM242 has videos of ex-Norcal trucks at work, be sure to watch that ;)
Very interesting. Only in California u will find these trucks.
