  • Medieval nerds, some of them are. They not only like to read books or watch movies about the world of medieval battles, they put on a suit of armor and fight among themselves. They’re a growing community in #Australia that meet a few times a year for #buhurt, a full-contact medieval #combat sport. How do they keep themselves safe while engaging in intense battle?

    >Modern sport has brought back to life medieval armored combat
Except it hasn't. The weapons aren't historical in that they're not the weapons you would use against an armored opponent, the armors aren't historical at all, and the rules aren't historical because they exist in the first place.
It has nothing to do with medieval armored combat. It is armored combat, it is aesthetically somewhat inspired by the middle ages - though not exactly accurately - and it is, first and foremost, a modern sport.

Surprised the government hasn't banned it. Looks like it would be too scary for the Polly's in Canberra 😂
