at one specific point of each boss scene there are two different directions to go. on the one way you "just" survive but don't beat the boss,.. and on the other way you survive AND beat the boss. you need to take the second variant to trigger the elevator after defeating all bosses. from the twin witches you also need to swipe those two eyeballs.
You press a direction or the action button at the right time. Which button you press depends on the situation. For example, if you need to duck, then press down. Be sure to know what direction to press. Some presses won't do anything, but others will be instantly fatal. Remember that you also need to press a direction when running in the hallways. You are being chased by Fritz after all. You should also never run in the direction you just came from or its instant death for the player.
great! :) you need the second eye from the other twin witch. after finishing Moose (the sport zombie *hehe*) just turn left again and head over the bridge. then up the ladder and do the witch-scene once again .. but now it's mirror-inverted. just watch part 2 of my speedrun if you can't find it.
of course this is a gameplay disaster but maybe that's the motivation to beat this game *haha* in the first place i love it for the animation und characters too :) back then it was the reason for me to start drawing. thank you, mister. being a lady, i feel even more masochistic psychotic ingenious ;)
How in the HELL do you do a flawless run of this game in the Maze section?! At first I was thinking that you had to go into the areas that weren't dark, but then in the second half there were NO dark areas so you had to just guess. What the hell do you do?!
8:40 - Huh, I don't think I ever remember seeing a shortcut like that. Then again, some, if not most, of the playthroughs I've seen don't do Vivi early. Maybe that's what triggered it.

I never understood the reason to actually confront the "bosses" if you just get thrown back to where you started, but do you just have to confront them all and survive to win

Erm, by that last paragraph, I mean that sometimes you shouldn't run in the direction you just came from. Some hallways will kill you for doing that if you're being chased by Fritz. (Sometimes it doesn't though.) The game can be a bit unforgiving though with some segments that require trial-and-error. (Some actions can happen to fast before you can react.)
OK...that just seems like...terrible design. Like, I would understand that if this were an arcade game and it was trying to steal your money. But to my knowledge it isn't. Trial & Error is your best friend in this game. There's also 'bings' whenever you get something wrong or right.
