    I 100% agree with keeping original paint. I, too, have spent many hours hand polishing. Great job.

      It was a lot of fun. Maybe not the best for making a video. But it was awesome for Pops and the grandkids. Thanks for watching.

    I know I mostly do complete restoration paint, but I always try to keep people to keep original paint if possible. It looks good. They are only original once

      I paint when the original paint can’t be saved or it’s already been spray bombed. Thanks for watching.

    Sounded like Nora yelled the F word when you said "i've got a helper." : )
    That rustoleum rust remover works great. It's a lot faster than Evaporust... but don't get any of it in a cut, it's not pleasant. I had a small cut on my hand that I didn't know about... until I get some of that rustoleum gel in it. I think it most be more caustic than evaporust, cause it eats up that rust.

    The original paint and the slightly scuffed chrome side covers look so much better now and more in keeping with the age of the bike, awesome job Eric.

    Nora is very sweet! Great job on the tank. I should have done that with an old Goldwing I restored. Painted it myself and was never really satisfied with it.

      I love trying to bring old paint back to life. I figure I can make it worse. And if all else fails we paint it. Thanks for watching.

    From a distance looks like new.
    Gluing in black plastic circle cutouts for the two missing decals would look good until finding the actual decals.

    A piece of wet t-shirt dipped in to same sand, works great for rust on chrome, it want scratch the chrome, and it's cheap, i have done it on bike rims and chrome bumpers,for years,

    I’m currently doing a 1981 Suzuki GS550. PO blew the top end after the throttle stuck wide open. It only has just under 10,000km. Head up north tomorrow to pick up a 650 motor. Going to try a 550 to 650 top end swap. Should be interesting.

    • @motorcyclerewind
      @motorcyclerewind  5 месяцев назад +1

      That sounds fun. The swap not the blowing the engine up. 😂 Thanks for watching.

    Looks great! Have you ever had the color come up when polishing? Tried polishing by hand a blue 350 tank and my rag started to turn blue, perhaps the clearcoat is gone?

    • @motorcyclerewind
      @motorcyclerewind  5 месяцев назад +2

      Most of these old tanks are single stage paint. So you should see color coming off. I did an CB350 K0 that the paint was horribly faded.

    Do you use anything to stop the rust?

    • @motorcyclerewind
      @motorcyclerewind  5 месяцев назад +2

    • @donbridgewater2988

      @@motorcyclerewind no I don’t.
      I was just wondering if you used anything on the paint to kill the rust from coming back out.

    • @motorcyclerewind
      @motorcyclerewind  5 месяцев назад +1

      Honestly I haven’t had flash rust problems when using a rust remover product. Unlike using straight vinegar, etc. Maybe they out something in it to coat the part after. I don’t know.
      🤷‍♂️
