  • Westwood, MA: A client in Westwood that grew up with this title and wanted a fully restored one as the main attaction in her families gameroom.
    To that end, we put over 60 hrs of restoration into making this 1979 Bally Classic look and play like showroom new!
    We started by Rebuiltding all mechs and circuit boards and cleaning all the insert lenses, installing new incandescent lighting as these older Classic games look much better with vintage lighting than the modern colder LED style of lighting.
    Buffed all metal to a mirror shine. New premium silicone rubber all around, new drop targets and rebuilt pop bumpers with new style clear skirts to show off the basketball court floor of the game. Rebuilt the spinners and the spinner faces as well as tweaked all switches to a hair trigger as well as spinners for maximum revolutions per hit. We finsihed by touching up the cabinet and playfield and installing a playfield protector to protect the touchups and to even out any cupped inserts.
    We really enjoyed playtesting this one for it's new owner!

    My favorite pinball machine all time. I used to be on this all day. Easy concept, hit all the drop targets then aim for the spinner on the top left for 2,000 points and let it rip all day!

      Depends on the condition. But restored ones like this can bring netween $5K and $9K depending if a new playfield has been swapped in.

    Hey guys. I just got this machine. However lady that had it did not have the key to the head of machine. For this exact 1979 Globetrotter machine can I get a key replacement or do I neec to drill out the lock?

    • @pinballdoctor
      @pinballdoctor  3 года назад

      Probably have to drill it out. But first, chek to see if the head key is inside the cabinet near the front of the game.

    Dr. Dave's Pinball Restorations, what do you use for paint for the playfriend? if you put LED lights in place instead of lamp bulbs that have a pre heater circuit the LED stays light, what can you do to prevent this when using LED lights?

    • @pinballdoctor
      @pinballdoctor  4 года назад

      If using LEDs with Classic Bally and Stern pins, you need a new type of lamp driver board or smart leds. But incandescent are the way to go.
      Some going the LED route would be better just cleaning under the inserts instead of trying to blast bright LED light through dirty lenses.

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 4 года назад

      Yes for older 70's pinballs games that have preheater circuits for the lamps when using LEDS will make the LED's stay light all the time, would using smart LEDs fix this problem?

    • @dr.davespinballrestoration3764
      @dr.davespinballrestoration3764 4 года назад

      @@waynegram8907 No I'm pretty sure it wouldn't. The only manufacture that used preheating for #44 and #47 bulbs was Atari. Bally Stern, Williams and Gottlieb you should be able to use the smart type LED bulbs for feature lights. For GI lighting, you can use LED preferably the "warm" style.

    • @waynegram8907
      @waynegram8907 4 года назад

      if you installed only #44 bulbs in the whole pinball game you will save money on your electricity bill compared to using only #47bulbs?Other techs have told me that LED can cause more noise issues, not sure if this is true or not? and the LED life span is very short because the pinball games lamps brightness is at full maximum brightness which kills the LED's life span, is this true?

    • @dr.davespinballrestoration3764

      @@waynegram8907 Ditch the LEDs. They don't belong in the older games and look a bit "off". Here's what I do: #47 for backbox lights. #44 for all playfield lighting. I will sometimes put the appropriate color led into a GI pop bumper cap as they aren't as susceptible to vibration/going bad like incandescent can be.
