There are few things more satisfying and badass than when things go to cubes. It’s like the animators decide “oh yeah, this is gonna be badass. Fucking *SQUARES”*
_I knew I heard Gravity Rush music! I knew it!_ Oh my god I thought I was going crazy for a second humming along with the song! This whole video is spectacularly well put together & I'm glad it found me tonight.
Cubes are easier to follow and animate in a 3d manner. It's been popularized by yutaka nakamura which is why they are also referred to as yutapon cubes.
Don't hate me too hard for this: But I'm a little tired of Yutapon Cubes by every single animator ever then getting called "a great animation". Great animation would be to put in some creativity or more effort and make the debris something not so samey.
Jonas h and how much more time would it take to draw the shapes irregularly or variantly? Not much really; perhaps by only a few seconds. Also budget is irrelevant here. Be it complacency, laziness, or unoriginality, there is no excuse for inbred recycled formula. Hayao Miyazaki is a wise man and he is right, the anime industry is a mistake. Despite the dedication of the entirety of his life's work, he could not end the vicious systemic cycle. I'd rather see realistic debris than the off-model, geometrically-challenged formulaic cubes.
@@lumpystilskin5367 I don’t hate them but I don’t think they fit _every single_ destruction scene. They feel artificial and stylish, which works amazingly in some settings. Other settings benefit from ‘realistic,’ irregular debris, when stylish shapes _don’t_ come before logic.
@@Densoro well it's not a big deal as long as logic is still present in a destruction scene, and considering the fact animating rotating debris in different angles can be time consuming, so simplifying it's shapes will be beneficial.
Cubed debris is actually pleasing to me.
Then yutaka nakamura is your new favorite animator since the guy is legit the god of cubed debris
@@voidstiles431 the guy who made it
Thats nakamura for you :)
Yutapon cubes

I love this so much, it really makes a great reference video for effects.

カロ agreed.
I guess it's easier to draw everything as cubes than to have to make a whole bunch of irregular shapes
Outbreakunit35 It is, that's why it's a very used technique
