The “old lady” neighbor is played by Betty Buckley who is a legend. From what you’ve described she was done dirty by this movie and that’s just unfortunate. She was iconic in the much maligned The Happening. I would’ve seen this for her but now I’ll just wait for it to come to streaming

Blumhouse truly is an enigma. One day you'll get gems like M3GAN, Sinister and The Black Phone. Another you'll get Black Christmas 2019, Exorcist: Believer (which, to be fair, was more or less DOA immediately), Night Swim and this.
I'm really curious about what we're in for with Wolf Man and Speak No Evil both coming out later this year.

Blumhouse has so many misfires lately. Makes me nervous for the Dead By Daylight movie. I also cringe at the thought of them getting other horror licenses like Friday the 13th

The funniest part was when the old lady was so cheerful in the imaginary world, then the camera zooms out and the daughter sarcastically says: "So happy for you, really" 😂

Hey Saturday I took two of my grandchildren to see Kung Fu
Panda 4. They are nine and five. They sat throughout the whole movie and enjoyed it. Eating out of their Panda popcorn bowl with the three characters on it at the AMC. So a big win there.
I do go through other comments on Letterbox to see if anyone made a point about an interracial couple. I have interracial cousins and to me they are some of the most beautiful people on the planet. Did not see it brought up. I hope we’re progressing. She was a lovely lady in the movie.
I just think in Hollywood they don’t have to change what was. They just need to be real and show up what is. I have black neighbors next door. I have a gay couple across the street with a pride flag in front. For me it’s like so. They’re my neighbors, they’re good people. Oh, sorry I went off subject. I’ve always been a people person. I grew up in New York. We were all different and yet we were all the same.

I didn't see the trailer but I was looking forward to this cuz of a DCOM....I'll wait now. I watched the premier for "Don't Look Under the Bed" on Disney when I was like 4 and was legit terrified. I rewatched it recently and the cinematography in the first half is much better than it should be for a DCOM.
For a Better Watch: It's sort of similar concept but have you watched Moon Garden (on Shudder)?? Low budge but shoots for the Moon! I watched it twice SOO GOOD!!

Part of the ship, part of the crew. Honestly, that’s a bad-ass mantra for a cult. That being said, it’s honestly a shame that Blumhouse is just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks but never giving more thought than that.
I must admit, I thought a big chunk of the script could have been a little better but at least the last 15 or so minutes were unintentionally hilarious. I liked the twist though.

I feel like imaginary friends used to be more widespread. Growing up in the 80s, I feel like most of the kids I knew (myself included) had an imaginary friend at some point). I feel like they’ve fallen out of popularity in the last couple of decades, maybe because of the increase in ability for kids to hang out remotely (don’t know, just speculating).
Either way, they were a thing.
Notwithstanding, I thought the movie was okay, but nowhere near great. Keeping on your note about lighting, I felt like I could see everything at the theater I went to (an AMC in NYC), but as usual Blumhouse continues to have the laziest cinematography. The shots were just boring and did nothing to set tone or make scenes feel creepy. They felt like they could have largely been swapped for shots in any other Blumhouse movie.
Maybe the idea for the movie was just past it’s expiration date because of that.
I’m a sucker for horror movies but this one I couldn’t get past the trailer was watching tv a while back when the trailer came on my 15 year daughter who loves everything and her older sister who naturally doesn’t like anything rolled their eyes almost in sync never a good sign .

Nah I kept seeing the trailer for it on my mom's Spanish language channels and thought it looked so goofy. I didn't even see ads for it anywhere else
dude im trying to show my gf as many horror movies as possible so i took her to watch this movie. she HATED the movie and told me shes never going to cinema with me again (i also made her watch night swim which she also didnt like)

I also really like the evil imaginary friend trope in horror. This sounds like a movie that was both overthought and underthought at the same time.

I am truly starting to believe that Blumhouse doesn't care what it releases anymore. It made its stellar movies to set itself up for being able to continously produce sh*tbombs knowing people will go because we are hungry for horror. I think until they show me something more, I won't be spending money in a theater for Blumhouse in the future. I will wait for streaming.
Smart. I think their pockets will start hurting in the coming years when more people understand their practices

im often annoyed by kids and just root for them to get killed xd, though ive recently watched Body Snatchers (1993) and the kid was actally one of the strongest parts of the movie. a real nice performance for such a lil boy, especially since he experiences and notices plenty of creepy shit before the adults do and u just buy it. even the emotional beats he had to do legit hurt my feelings xd

@@HauntedHippie yep, a lot goes into it.. I guess my point was that when I was younger I used to think that "hearing voices" and "imaginary friends" were more fiction and less based in reality only because I've never experienced them, and I was definitely wrong..

I honestly don’t fw blumhouse post-Halloween. I can only really put my faith only in A24 to give me something truly effed up, but I’m definitely impressed with fox searchlight for giving us poor things. So glad it won so many Oscars last nite.
My highlights of the ceremony was seeing slash, deniro’s grumoy old man demeanor, and Emma stone winning for poor things! She deserved it in spades!

I was in the theater when the trailer for this played and I was thinking to myself could it get any dumber, and then the trailer for Abigail played.
That old lady just didn't need to exist. They could have just got the teen step daughter to actually do something helpful and given her the plot bits the old lady did.
The child being to old to fall for this kind of stuff is exactly why I can't stand Child's Play 3 if you've ever seen that.

I forget the story, but Tyler was definitely written to be younger.. it's actually pretty funny though and oddly adds to Child's Play 3's charm IMO.. me and my best friend have been randomly reciting Tyler quotes forever haha..
There were at least 2 times I was squinting at the screen to see and then they cut to bright, day time window and my eyes hurt
I do remember playing around with my toys for using personality traits by referenced movies, Like Toy Story for example I use that a ton since as child, but voices… Nope.

I agree with you about lighting from every movie, you can’t see nothing over the dark (black) areas, and design of land of imaginary sounds too much stuff to look at, so maybe should be lesser tone and balance from what you seeing the background.
Have you seen the Disney channel original movie Don’t Look Under The Bed? Not necessarily a fan of it sounds better than this one and for a kids movie it does have some scary imagery. It’s also about imaginary friends
I haven't even seen Imaginary I have no plans to ever watch this movie and I still know for a fact that Don't Look Under the Bed is a way better than movie than Imaginary Lol 😂

This definitely felt like a Disney original 😭 only if this was labelled as a comedy cause I also laughed SO MUCH, especially with the beef between the old woman and the kid . I agree , the kid was too old to act that way; at that age , I was always playing outside lol . The parents did not match , they felt like 2 best friends taking care of the neighbours kids lol. Let’s hope this is the last bad film 😭

It's funny how different perspective stuff works. With few exceptions if I go see a movie it's because the trailer seemed interesting. The exceptions being franchises which haven't burnt me before. But i see maybe ten movies at the cinema on a busy year. Where as you're in tune with the movie culture and stuff so you have better ways of figuring out what you want to watch.

I saw this trailer several times last year and it just felt like they showed me the whole movie.
I just watch this movie tonight the first half of this movie i did like but when i got to the third act and what the movie was really about it was just okay and It's probably a movie I never watch as a whole again.
This movie contradicted itself so much and bored me for the first two acts. I hate how much exposition there was to explain everything. The last act made me laugh so hard because of how hard it was trying to make us scared.

I actually enjoyed watching this…😅 Dunno what it says about my taste, but I feel like the movie was just a goofy, fun time. I think since going into the movie I already expected it to be stupid and funny and that’s exactly what it delivered, so I was kinda satisfied I guess. Also I agree with you about it having potential but falling flat in many areas.

Haven't even heard of this one, but it sounds like a shitshow only because it doesn't sound like it knows what it is.. nothing worse than watching a film try to take itself seriously and you literally can't take anything that's happening in the film seriously lol.. you either have to laugh, get annoyed, or feel secondhand embarrassment when that happens, sounds like you chose to laugh lol..
This movie was Citizen Kane compared to most of the trash that comes from Horror Pack on a monthly basis.
U really r respectful because if this trash makes $30milion opening weekend that would be big success but it only made $10 milion and that's even too much they should be greatful plus i knew it will be awful movie from z beginning so no surprise for me about z scores haven't watched it but when it's out in VOD am gonna LOL at it 😂 i hope u watch Dune 2 and review it,
This didn’t seem at all interesting from the trailers just like night swim so opted out of seeing either but hopefully we’ll start getting good horror in theaters soon
i thought the movie was at least better than night swim by a long shot but the part where the entire family has the black eyes and alien like voices had me cracking up. also you literally look just like aubrey plaza!!!!

Good review, because I'm seeing people calling this the worst Blumhouse film, and it wasn't at all... but it was brutally mediocre. I thought it was funny myself, and most of the acting was decent. Just predictable, formulaic, goofy, and TOOTHLESS. I really AM sick of PG-13 Horror, and this was about as tame as it gets. 🥱
