pelon198712 it is if you dont know what you are doing. You would use a canned wet food from the natural food sections and you would not feed from the can.
I ended up getting a blue tongue skink (it's awesome!) and I feed it canned wet dog food which is that the breeders recommended. There's certain meats that are healthy for it. Anyway, the guy just didn't specify I guess
+NC Nature News What you should do is balance out your diet (also, if you get it as a hatchling it would be more squirmy but easier to time). You should feed it mice and rats but not too much because they are high in fat but low in protein. Feed them eggs (boiled, scrambled, hard-boiled) they love it. Also, feed it raw meat such as raw steak or turkey.
'Easy to take care of' and 'savannah monitors' should never be in the same sentence. These lizards need a 6x6 enclosure at minimum, and they need healthy whole prey items, not "table scraps".
morten monitor mine won't eat at all I have to get him mad at me so I can put a cricket in his mouth even when I do that he still spots it out wtf should I do
the best food for them are insects even when they're adults , once in a while maybe a rat , but not too often ,since a rat has alot of fat and sav monitors are very exposed to obesity
I used to have one, and when we got him he was this big, and it's really hard to think about in retrospect, because when he died three years later, he was about three feet long.
we have so many reptiles that he has spoken of, we have a savannah monitor and a nile monitor plus many other reptiles! gosh I love them so much. My savannah monitor is named Samia and my nile monitor is named Miles
There's a debate that you can feed savannah monitor on rodents as a staple as long as the temps, humidty & caging is on point. A lot of people have success with this as long as they know exactly what they're doing.
some bad info, theyre not easy to care for. big lizards need big cages, monitors especially since they are more active than other reptiles, and big cages are harder to maintain the right temps and humidity. not to mention the heavy load of substrate that needs to be changed and replaced. I dont give my dogs dog food and wouldnt give it to a lizard.
IamtheKGB I completely agree. The only pre-made pet food I'd give to a monitor is organic raw cat food. It's literally 100% ground whole animal. It's got the skin, tendons, bones, organs, meat, everything still in it. Of course variety is always key. There are no staples to my monitors diet because in my opinion nothing is healthy enough on it's own to be fed exclusively. Anything he eats makes up a maximum of 20% of his diet.
I have to disgree with this video. The only dog or cat food they should eat is organic raw cat food. But only the stuff that's 100% ground up whole animal with the tendons and bones, organs etc. Even then variety is key so I always switch up what I feed them as frequently as possible. Its also important to supplement anything without bone. Dog food though should literally never be fed to a monitor because Monitors are carnivorous and dogs are omnivorous. Obviously they can't eat the same food. Monitors don't eat grains and vegetation.
I have a baby savannah lizard I’ve had him or her for 2 weeks and I have worked with him almost every day and he is able to Handle but is not easy how long would it take to be able to pick it up and easy like a puppy dog
i have had two they both got pretty big befor i gsve them to the pet store but i got them when they were like 10 inches i never got soil for them each time 75 gallon tank till two and a half feet had them sepritly but i just picked up a baby about 6 inches a few weeks ago and only seen him eat two crickets. and three meal worms i worried so i held him and he would open his mouth to act like he would bite but hasnt none the less i would put a shrimp in his mouth and put him down and he would eat it but he hasnt eaten in a week and a half besides 3 meal worms is that enough for him he dont even go in his basking ares stays in his hide dont dig in the dirt
This guy is hilarious! Savannah monitors do not eat dog/cat food. They actually perfer insects because its what they eat mostly in the wild. If you feed your savannah monitor rodents as a stable, it is a tremendous chance it can get liver disease...
+Glory Kent feed em eggs and insects and rodents along with raw meat. Then you have a nice balanced diet. (but never over do the rodents because they are high in fat and fur but not protein).
Rodents should only be fed very occasionally, they are very fatty and savannah monitors tend to live longer without any rodents in captivity, and why do you feed them rodents anyway? They don’t care about the taste of rodents, nor if they look tasty, why risk it even? One rodent a month might not hurt but there is no point of it
monitors eat everything the reason they say its bad is because its fatty but alot of the things that they eat in it just to much of anything is not a good idea
the only dog or cat food that should ever be fed to a savannah monitor is the 100% raw dog food diet its grounded up rats and other whole pray i feed it to my savannah monitors once every 2 weeks it helps them use the bathroom and helps them shed lol and they go crazy for it
no do not feed them that!!! feed them roaches and crickets 70% animal protein 20% eggs 10% and plants 10% also they must be able to borrow ( foot of eco earth on top 2 feet of soil on bottom) and need a basking spot at least 105°f
Nick Harrell I wouldn't feed them ANY plant matter. They shouldn't even have any interest in vegetation. They can however eat organic raw cat food. It's 100% ground up whole animal. Its got bones, tendons, organs, everything. It shouldn't be fed exclusively but it is OK for them every once in awhile.
This is wrong wrong wrong! I truly hope nobody takes this "advice" as being true because it is deadly. Whole prey items, no table scraps or dogfood. Dogfood is for dogs, not reptiles. They are not easy to care for, and require a huge cage preferably over 8ft long and 5ft wide at least. Bigger the better, do more research.
Ok don’t feed them cat/dog food plz . And at that size they can eat a few pinky mice. Not rat pinky’s but mice pinky’s it’ll boost there growth. I give mines two pinky’s and a box of large 25c crickets every week.
I have to disagree with this video. Never is it okay to give a monitor leftovers or dog/cat food. ALSO he said that they're meat eaters that have a insect eating stage, but savannahs are primarily insectivores their entire life.
This was awful advice, I have two one year olds and this info is not correct do NOT feed dog or cat food feed they need to eat bugs at that size they’d need calcium, A basking spot about 130 degrees and a huge cage and lots of dirt and hides and do t handle them like that
what?! savannah monitors are insectivores they can eat rodents but not for a stable this guy doesn't know what he's talking about savannah monitors arnt easy pets. this video is what make savannah monitors look like "easy pets" then people get them and many of them end up dying at an early age.
I'm here to learn more about monitors because i might get one in the future... but I have a feeling that it's a bad idea to feed them dog food...
Cat food and dog food is a terrible idea
pelon198712 it is if you dont know what you are doing. You would use a canned wet food from the natural food sections and you would not feed from the can.
Nah you stupid feed it canned tuna.
I ended up getting a blue tongue skink (it's awesome!) and I feed it canned wet dog food which is that the breeders recommended. There's certain meats that are healthy for it. Anyway, the guy just didn't specify I guess

8x4x4 actually but yeah
75 isnt big enough, you'll need to make a massive enclosure
Apophis I'm going to get one dom time when school starts again. I have construction and we can build whatever we want so I'm gonna build an enclosure.
@THE DARK KNIGHT'S REPUBLICAN wtf not enough space at all
@THE DARK KNIGHT'S REPUBLICAN no its not a 40 gallon tank for a 4 foot lizard you are nuts
omg i laughed soo hard eating table scraps cat food dog food lmfao
?
@@seventyducksboi4969 0:26
Cat and dog food should not be fed to you savannah monitor, only insects or fresh meats, no processed food, and no lefterovers !
the best dog food is not good for dogs lol. and its even worse for a lizard!
morten monitor mine won't eat at all I have to get him mad at me so I can put a cricket in his mouth even when I do that he still spots it out wtf should I do
Wizard Games is it still alivr
the best food for them are insects even when they're adults , once in a while maybe a rat , but not too often ,since a rat has alot of fat and sav monitors are very exposed to obesity

Same 😂 our Nile is Bristol an our savanna is reptar from the rugrats🤣

If you’re still making videos, please update your information for viewers whom are becoming savvy parents. thank you:)
I was like how cast has a video on savannah monitors? Then I started listening to what he was saying and I’m like okay, imma head out
Do you guys change your pictures to lizards to make it seem you know what you're talking about?

😂 de lizard in de bak round jumping 😂😂😂
I don’t have any monitors but this video is useful. Hope to get a monitor one day🎉🎉🎉
If there was an award for the most condescending reptiles owners, it'd probably go to Sav owners.

what is the lizard in the large exo-terra tank that is always jumping around?
+BIRDS AND FEATHERS!!!! monster hunter reference, check :D
i think it's a big water monitor
There is no way in hell that they are easy, and they don't eat dog food!
I have a baby savannah lizard I’ve had him or her for 2 weeks and I have worked with him almost every day and he is able to Handle but is not easy how long would it take to be able to pick it up and easy like a puppy dog
That, you idiot, is because they are not puppy dogs. They are the opposite side of the spectrum from a dog, and you need to learn that.
Reptiles especially monitor lizards aren’t dogs, they think completely differently and dogs are way smarter than lizards
Great tips sooooo cute😀

nice videos.
How to Tam them
This guy is hilarious! Savannah monitors do not eat dog/cat food. They actually perfer insects because its what they eat mostly in the wild. If you feed your savannah monitor rodents as a stable, it is a tremendous chance it can get liver disease...
You're not an expert. No one cares what you have to say.
Ok you be an idiot and feed your savannah monitor dog food. Watch him die. Then comment again👋
+Glory Kent feed em eggs and insects and rodents along with raw meat. Then you have a nice balanced diet. (but never over do the rodents because they are high in fat and fur but not protein).

Thanks man
Isn't this the guy who goes across the USA giving reptole shows?
Yo no way I remember this guy he got whipped by a iguana before like 3 or 4 years ago
feeding them table scraps is one of the worst things you could ever do for a savannah, and dog food too
the only dog or cat food that should ever be fed to a savannah monitor is the 100% raw dog food diet its grounded up rats and other whole pray i feed it to my savannah monitors once every 2 weeks it helps them use the bathroom and helps them shed lol and they go crazy for it
I'm the 666th viewer creepy I'm gonna get a monitor and name it Satan now lol
I have a baby one and you do not give dog food or cat food or table scraps
no do not feed them that!!!
feed them roaches and crickets 70% animal protein 20% eggs 10% and plants 10%

Alex Crowder yes in the wild they will consume certain plants
5 Ft xD!?! The Biggest One Was A Little Bit Bigger Than 4 Ft.
do they bite
Yes, they are very aggressive it's best to tame them at a young age
How to tame them
look it up
anything with a mouth can bite
Yes they bite and its scary when they hiss which is their first defensive stance.
Oh god. This guy again
I don't think this even had 5 tips... Not to mention almost everything he said was wrong.
This is wrong wrong wrong! I truly hope nobody takes this "advice" as being true because it is deadly. Whole prey items, no table scraps or dogfood. Dogfood is for dogs, not reptiles. Who eats 6 times a day!
Dude, u feed them insects for their whole life! U only feed them meat like steak or chicken like once every month
This video should be considered criminal it's so full of b.s. information.
Ok don’t feed them cat/dog food plz . And at that size they can eat a few pinky mice. Not rat pinky’s but mice pinky’s it’ll boost there growth. I give mines two pinky’s and a box of large 25c crickets every week.

Just about every piece of info he mentioned was incorrect lol
My baby is not friendly 💀
They eat insects in the wild
Theses are more of a display pet
No. No, are you kidding? Do you even have a savannah monitor?
They aren’t, they are meant to be handled everyday or have consistent interactions or else they will tear you apart when they become adults
DO NOT FEED THEM DOGFOOD. This is wrong ...
bro don’t feed cat food or dog food to them. You should feed your little cousin to them like I did.
Theses are bad pets if you are looking for a lizard to hold and not get bit or tail whipped
Hey bud cat food and dog food is the worst thing to feed monitor by the way if you're going to teach make sure that you're taught first
Non of that info is right do your research how cast Savannah monitors grow a max of 3 feet they should be fed eggs, inverts such as insects and shrimp
Ethan Koch 3 feet would be about to vent length. He said overall length noise to tail.
They should NOT be fed cat/dog food :/
This was awful advice, I have two one year olds and this info is not correct do NOT feed dog or cat food feed they need to eat bugs at that size they’d need calcium, A basking spot about 130 degrees and a huge cage and lots of dirt and hides and do t handle them like that
I have seen a couple of videos from this guy. He really has no idea what he is talking about.
3rd
what?! savannah monitors are insectivores they can eat rodents but not for a stable this guy doesn't know what he's talking about savannah monitors arnt easy pets. this video is what make savannah monitors look like "easy pets" then people get them and many of them end up dying at an early age.
4th
Pure insectivores, bad advice
This is a horrible video, please do not buy a savvanah monitor , they are extremely hard to care for and usually die within 2-3 years in captivity.
Bruh. Don't listen to this guy
