En el sector Occidental del parque nacional Canaima, está el Auyantepuy, uno de los tepuyes más conocidos. (Los tepuyes son esas montañas planas que terminan con inmensas paredes verticales.) De ese tepuy nace el Salto Angel, con sus 979 metros de caída libre, el más alto del mundo.
El Salto Angel tiene ese nombre, en honor al hombre que lo descubrió en 1937, el aventurero y aviador norteamericano Jimmy Angel. Sin embargo, los indígenas de la zona, los Pemones, ya lo conocían anteriormente y lo habían bautizado como Churún Merú.
Si algún día tiene la oportunidad, no deje de ir al pie del Salto Ángel. Esas vistas le quedarán grabadas en su mente para toda su vida.
Estuvimos durante 2 días y 1 noche muy cerca del Salto Angel, donde se realiza un recorrido en Curiara de aprox. 3 horas y 30 minutos caminando. Al llegar a las inmediaciones del Salto Angel se recorren aprox. 3 Km para llegar lo más cerca posible a la caída de agua más alta del mundo.

In the Western Sector of Canaima National Park, is the Auyantepui, one of the most famous tepuis. (The flat mountains tepuis are those that end with immense vertical walls.) From this tepui born Angel Falls with its 979 meters of free fall, the highest in the world.
Angel Falls is so named in honor of the man who discovered it in 1937, the American adventurer and aviator Jimmy Angel. However, the indigenous people of the area, "Pemones" already knew and had been baptized as "Churún Merú"
If you ever have the opportunity, be sure to go to the foot of Angel Falls. These views will remain etched in your mind for life.
We stayed for 2 days and 1 night near the Angel Falls, where a journey is performed in Curiara approx. 3 hours and 30 minutes walk. Upon reaching the vicinity of the Angel Falls you will have to walk approx. 3 Km to reach as close as possible to the highest water fall in the world.
