    I believe self-destruct is for German radio controlled demolition vehicles (Goliath, Borgward IV), which occured in SD44.

    Some ideas I've had about hotkeys. I'm certain none of them are new but I've only recently figured them out & thought I would post for other new SD2 gamers. I set up my own customized hotkeys so I'll use the order names instead of the numbers/letters:
    Shoot & Scoot for direct fire vehicles:
    I've not tested this one yet but I think it could be useful for tank destroyers emerging from light woods, around corners or up to the edge of a hill in a hull-down type position = L-Shift + Hunt + Reverse. This way your unit will cautiously move forward to a set point, looking for enemy targets. If one is spotted it will stop & engage. If it does not find any targets or kills them all then it will reverse back into cover once it reaches its furthest hunt position. You could set up multiple back & forths in one go so that you can leave the unit to go back & forth for a few minutes while you concentrate elsewhere. I think this would work well for things like Marders, Hetzers in woods/on ridges & perhaps Shermans in towns, around corners. I've not tested it in battle yet but it's quick & easy to set up in a test-run. Saves having the unit just sat out exposed in the open & could be difficult to spot/confusing for the enemy.
    See all orders with one button press + shift:
    Highlight all of your units & set up a Control group (Control + 0). Then whenever you want to check orders simply press 0 to select control group 0 & then press shift & you'll see every unit's orders. You may need to redo this several times during a battle as reinforcements come in, but it should be quick & easy to do & will save a lot of time as you can quickly get an idea of the overall focus of your battlegroup.
    Artillery control groups for counter-battery:
    The new smart orders may soon make this idea redundant, but I've only just heard about control groups & this will make my current artillery game way more efficient. I tend to group my artillery into 3-4 gun batteries with a leader & supply truck. Constantly going back to the rear to locate & select them, then back to the enemy rear to spot & attack order a strike is a chore. My plan is to number my batteries from left to right 1, 2, 3, 4 etc... I can then just pick whichever number I think is available & order a strike without having to move my view away from the enemy. Really useful when you're desperately searching for that pesky 120mm mortar that's pinning down your push whilst also keeping an eye out for the 122mm howitzer trails further back.
    You could even work out a system where say 1-3 are your 120mm mortars, 4-6 are your field gun batteries or individual guns, & 7-9 are your heavies or counter battery specialists. Depending on your battlegroup makeup you could pre-plan a Control Group numbering system & have it on a notepad for quick & easy reference.
    Maneuver unit Control Groups:
    I think this 'idea' will come in useful when the Smart orders are introduced, but could also be of use now. Let's say you have two flanking units that will need constant micromanagement adjustments as they assault through wooded areas. Before they set off you could select the maneuver units (for argument's sake 3 Saperi, 2 flamethrowers & 2 Avtomachiki plus a leader) & give them a Control Group number (for argument's sake, Control + 7 on the left & Control + 9 on the right). Whenever you need to alter the direction or focus of fire for one of these two units you simply need to press either 7 or 9 and click where you want them to go or what you want them to shoot at as a group.
    Once smart orders come into effect you can set up several larger groupings, platoon or company size (say 1st to 6th companies with corresponding Control Group numbers) & then select them by number before giving them their smart order. I expect the smart orders may well make this idea somewhat superfluous but it could also complement them & allow you to keep your forces in better order as a battle progresses.
    I've got to try all of these out thoroughly, but I think they should all work in principle.

      Holding down left shift enables that function. Just like it enables artying multiple areas.

    • @LegacyofKine
      @LegacyofKine 5 лет назад

      @@SaucyNetworkEntertainment Thanks. My main issue is artillery units repeatedly aligning and then aiming then aligning again in a loop without actually firing. Even when I manually designate a target, it's not guaranteed they will fire. That and actual recon mechanics. I found a Optics vs Stealth guide for Normandy 44 but would appreciate an updated recon guide for SD2. Like max spotting distance and locating units behind forests etc.

    • @McMonkeyful
      @McMonkeyful 5 лет назад +1

      @@LegacyofKine You may well have figured this out already but I thought I would answer in case anyone else was looking for answers in the future. I suspect the issue is with the slowed aiming time in SD2 & I think you may have been assigning new targets before the guns had completed their setup & 5 rounds of outgoing. Mortars aim & fire a lot quicker. The larger the weapon calibre, the longer it tends to take to prepare & execute its fire mission.
      The reason I suspect this is that I did the same thing when I first got hold of this game. There is a lot to get to grips with, especially if, like me, you'd never played SD1 or any other Eugen titles. Apologies if this is now a case of telling granny how to suck eggs ;)

    its not that we forget 2:30 to move Arty, first off the arty mechanism is just wrong, it should be loaded at least the first time, also takes forever to fire its rounds, so ur not going to sit there and wait fot "IT" to do its thing while ur getting hammered elsewhere thats just my opinion.

  • @ThisOLmaan

    that Long Ling confused me on the SD Norm 44, i thought if given que orders, to fire then reverse, i thought the units would move all the way to the end of the line and come back, they should really fix that many think the same, see how the blue like is way up there 3:00 , you know it wouldn't surprise me if it did travel way up there and come back LOL

    • @McMonkeyful
      @McMonkeyful 5 лет назад

      It certainly is confusing but I guess it displays the order in which you are going to carry out the orders. Whichever way Eugen set that display up it would cause some confusion. Even though I know that the light blue line is the move to that position it still looks wrong.

  • @cirmothe9
    @cirmothe9 5 лет назад

    Unload at position isn't new. It was in 1944. And I'm pretty sure it doesn't fast move before the unload. It's just a regular move and unload.

    • @McMonkeyful
      @McMonkeyful 5 лет назад +1

      You may well be correct but wouldn't unload at position take units cross country if it is like normal move? Unload at position follows the roads, which is what happens when you order fast move, which would lead me to suspect it's the same speed.
      I'll try & set up an experiment right now to test which is correct. Please hold...
      ...Just run the test with some M2s and I can confirm that Fast move & Unload at position raced off neck & neck while the normal move M2 on the same road that started just behind them was going at roughly half their pace.
      You may well have figured this out by now but I thought it might be useful for others. I've been playing for months & never thought to check, though Unload at position seemed pretty nippy.
