I can't thank you enough for this video! I was just turned away from a seamstress when requesting sleeves like this. I feel confident I can make these myself and add them to my dress now 😍
Thank you thank you! Adding some of these to a strapless pageant dress! Now that I am in my 50s, I prefer to cover the "jigglies" on my upper arm. This is a great hack!
Amazing video! Used to be a Bridal/vintage designer, but I've been a math teacher for 20+ years. Coming out of retirement to do a dress for a friend that needs these sleeves. Bridal sewing rocks- so creative. Keep 'em coming!
I really needed a tutorial on this! I couldn't even find the name at first! I'm designing a wedding top and putting it together myself. My draped sleeves are gonna go over long sleeve lace. So an arm band would already make hot and sweaty. Our wedding will be during the warm seasons
Love this! I bought a strapless dress and the ladies at the boutique told me I had to get a cover up for it specially made , or get detachable straps for it but they wouldn’t sell them to me since they came with another dress. Luckily I found the same color and fabric as my dress and I’m gonna go get it fixed at the tailors and I’ll have to show him this! Thank you!
Just a warning: They may not appreciate you showing them this. Some seamsters can be offended by the thought of learning from someone else. ;) & I don't mean that in a mean way... it's just how things are.
Bridal Sewing Techniques you are right! I had already told them I might need alterations before I bought the dress but I got lucky it fit me perfectly , now I just need the straps! I wish I could show you the straps for advice but thank you for the warning :)
Whoaaaa!! I am sooo glad I saw this. I like to sew and learn techniques from others. But this can be on many other dressy attire. Love it!. You are really good at teaching ..I am a visual person and love your drawings.
Hi, I saw your video that was very good. I have a dress with a satin bodice and lace capped sleeves and buttons up to the neckline in back. The bride wants drape sleeve. How can I get around cutting the lace to uncap without having to sew it to some satin so it will drape.
Love love love the gathering technique for the boning extension... Brilliant!!! I will definitely steal this one! Oh and btw- any seamster whom thinks they know it all is, frankly not worth paying. Anyone who thinks anyone can know it all is either really stupid or just plain delusional. I have been doing alterations professionally since 1984 and I still learn. All the time. I live by the old saying that whatever is not growing is dead!
Thank you. & thank you for mentioning that in such a kind way! I've been beat up about that quite rudely online before. I basically can't say it right. Lol If I try, I sound ridiculous! I say it really slow and embarrassing, so once I was told you can pronounce it more similar to the American name of "Allison" and that would be vaguely acceptable, I latched onto that. Lol Thank you for your patience!! 😂
Hello. Is this piece a simple tube gathered at each end? Made from rectangle? I’m wondering if you fan it down at armpit- (I have spaghetti straps), in order to make more space (droop) lower down. I’m adding to a beaded cocktail dress using light, drapey sequin fabric. I’ll wrap the straps to add button & make it removable. Thx!
My wedding dress has spaghetti straps and a low back and I wanted to get the straps changed to off the shoulder tulle straps that sit just on the outside of my shoulder, so it wouldn't be draping down like the straps shown in the examples. Will I still need my seamstress to add that extra high boning or will it be able to function without it?
High boning would be best. Other options are: accept very little range of motion, or attach the straps with some elastic, or use knit, (stretchy) lace, or keep spaghetti straps and attach draping straps to them.
It would be much trickier, because you would have to match fabric & do an extremely neat job or add ruching or something. The most elaborate way would be to build up the stands as I illustrated and then put a new overlay over the bodice pieces. It could become a very big job if the bride won't tolerate new seams.
They come in different sizes. I used 1/2 inch & I *only* use rigilene. It really matters! There's a link on the products page of my website. Www.bridalsewingtechniques.com
How to add a draping sleeve that has a bishop long sleeve attached. This is a detailed sleeve. I want to add it to a spaghetti strap wedding dress. It has 3 button hoops on each side. I would like to send pic.
I'm making my own wedding dress, it'll have a low back and draped sleeves like this. This tutorial is a life saver!
Hope it went well. I’m just about to start making my daughters. Just sorting out patterns, fabric etc. she wants these sleeves as well.

I never would have thought to do that. You are so creative! I love how you think through the problems and accommodate your customers.

Thank you for this lesson I did this shape for one of my bride, it works, happy to have learn something new.
Just subscribed! 🥰 Can you do a video on how to add sleeves (not the drape sleeve) on a wedding dress?
Sure. Go to my channel home page and type in "sleeves" & it will give you info on lace sleeves.
I love how through your explanation was. Thank you! I actually learned something today! You are a wonderful teacher!

Very clever! This is super helpful for my current project and I'm sure many future projects.
Thank you! I would have never ever thought of this on my own! Pure genius! Do you mind me asking how much something like this cost?
AllSewn Up the whole labor segment of the strap reconfiguration ran around $120. Materials cost was about $15.
Thank you as always!

Very nice. Just like Belle.
So beautiful 🤩
Beuuutiful dress, Nia! Congrats!
Gloria Chee Thank you!!! ☺️
I absolutely love the ruching in that dress! How do I achieve that? 😭
That's a hour long video idea. Definitely not something I can describe very well in the comments section. Sorry! :)
@@BridalSewing lol it's okay. But if you ever need a video idea then there's one! Your vids are very helpful. Thank you!
Wow, great tutorial! Thank you ❤️
Beautifully done.
I enjoy your videos and love learning from you.
Thank you so much! & thank you for watching. 🥰
This is so inventive and helpful! I’d love to see a remake of this video with a non lacy dress to see how that makes a difference :)
You would mainly need to perfectly match the fabric and do a very neat job. Lace makes things easier, that is for sure! :)
Thank you this was a big help for me. ⭐️
You are AWESOME . . BTW, the French say a-LON-son, with the stress on 2nd syllable

Thank you so much!!!!
Hey I've been trying to find a pattern for off shoulder draped long sleeves. Have you ever made such a thing?
I usually just drape them on the bride to make a custom pattern for each case.
@@BridalSewing thanks a lot!
YESSSSSS TY!
Fantastic!! ❤️
I have a low back velvet wedding dress I want to be made into a belle sleeve. do you do out of town dresses?
I actually do not take sewing jobs through this channel. It is only an effort to build a sewing community. Sorry that I can't help with that! :)
Finally, someone gets me
omg thankyou!!
Lol. You're welcome!
Can you tell me which glue did you use to stick it?
How can you make removable drape sleeve?
Snap on. :)
@@BridalSewing thank u
Amazing... aren’t you clever 😍😍😍
Lol
Thank you so much
Wondwrfull
I wanted to see how you sewed it on :(
what do you call this neckline? need help please
Swoop
Very helpful thank you so much!
Good tip, but I’m surprised you to curve the boning as it usually has a natural curve.
It won't retain it unless supported to do so. It will bow out under pressure.
How would I do this same concept without lace?
It would be much trickier, because you would have to match fabric & do an extremely neat job or add ruching or something. The most elaborate way would be to build up the stands as I illustrated and then put a new overlay over the bodice pieces. It could become a very big job if the bride won't tolerate new seams.
What this fabric calls
Are all bones the same size? If not, what size did you use?? I would like to practice.

Bridal Sewing Techniques Great. Thank you.
Can you explain why you only use rigilene please? I'm curious why it might be different than another brand and why it's preferred. Thank you!
I personally prefer it because it is the strongest to me and is truly sew-through.

This is better asked in an instagram DM where we can send pics & sketches back & forth @bridalsewing
