The mechanic of taking on enemy abilities makes this sound like Biomorph has similar gameplay mechanics to a Kirby game, but within a metroidvania structure.
I liked the look of this when I first saw it as well, and I enjoy enjoy a good metroidvania. I'm glad this one lives up to expectations despite some frustrations with the boss battles. I'll be keeping an eye on this and picking it up at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later. Thanks for the review.
Boss fights are my least favorite thing about Metroidvanias, i like the ones that are focused on exploration and secrets. A great example is Astalon. I don't like getting stressed and bottlenecked at a boss and just wanna get back to the exploring. I love to learn about more exploration focused games. Super Win The Game is another great example that doesn't even have fighting, it's pure exploration and I loved it.
The demo for this was pretty good. It's still up on Steam if you want to try before you buy. I plan on picking it up once it comes to consoles, which is supposed to be happening later in 2024.
Bio Senshi Dan is the first one I thought of, but Bio Metal, and Jesus: Kyofu no Bio Monster are good ones, too. Iunno, does Bionic Commando count? In any case, this looks really cool; I've had my eye on it ever since you started mentioning it, and it does look like something I'd enjoy.
I’m currently replaying Dust An Elysian Tail. None of these indie Metroidvanias match this game. It’s more than a decade old, “only” 1080p/60, but what a masterpiece. I still hope we get a sequel someday. I’m not even sure if the creator is still in games.
This game is at best 7/10. Its gemmicky and doesnt offer anything better than what youve already seen and infact it only does a mediocre job at it. Overall the game play experience and vibe felt like it was meant for little kids. If youre looking for a Hollow Knight experience this isnt it. For instance theres no Countering/parrying combat system. The "chips" aka charms you get doesnt really offer any unique game play experience nor character build like in Hollow knight. Its moreso just stats boosts buffers likes health and attack up, etc. You may think youll get a little bit of unique game play in the many monster powers you may absorb but theyre mainly used to unlock or transverse within their local area on the map. Furthermore, due to no voice acting there was way too much nonworthy reading/dialouge that i just conveniently skip through, you dont have to listen anways because every single quest will be labelled and marked on the map - area explored or not. Again this game feels like its meant for kids. Not to mention the many item fetch quests. We all hate those types of quests, and this game has plent of them, like one where you have to go back and forth between two npcs exhanging love letters or the sort. Too many questes where you fetch one thing, return to the requester and the they tell you the job is still incomplete and sends you to another location to fetch anothrr item or speak with another person. The boss fights and platforming are also very very easy. Actually theres only one true platforming challenge, the rest didnt feel like a challenge. The boss fights are so easy, most bosses only have a 3move set combo and two phases where they may add one or two more moves to their preset pattern. The story isnt all that neither, although it does try to be unique in the multiple endings true/bad endings. In this department its way lacking compared to how Symphony of the Night does it. Ive played a lot of metrodivania games lately: Prince of Persia, Haak, Grime, Last Faith, Bloodstaimed ritual, Ghost Song, etc. and this game was the least emjoyable one.
took me 12 hours to beat this game true ending and all, very underwhelming. areas felt bland, combat felt easy, and the writing was rlly weak. for the largest part of the game I did not care one bit about the characters or the world. I was hoping to get sucked into it more as I progressed but that did not really happen. luckily unlocking the true ending is not that hard so the chore of collecting what u need to unlock the true ending isnt that tedious. Some positives i will say is that there is a ton of side content for you to do if you so desire, for me since the game did not rlly grip me i did not bother with most but there is a lot of things to do, there's a ton of collectibles and the biggest plus I would like to point out is the enemy design, very unique sci-fi grotesque monsters. My biggest gripe with the game has to be that it just did not feel very good to play. traversing didnt feel fun, the movement abilities aren't fluid and even lategame the game simply did not feel fun to play (imo ofc). Just thought id drop this here for anyone interested, I dont mean to knock the game at all if you like/love it then hell yeah good for u! Sadly this game wasn't for me.
Thanks for the review! Highly appreciated and we're glad you liked it. :)

Man you guys are on a roll. I think I may need to start supporting independent game journalism!
Thank you 💜💜

Not usually my favorite aspect either!
I totally agree!
I'm a big fan of boss fights, but I understand that it may interrupt the flow of exploring

Is that Ender Lillies music in the background or is it from biomorph? Beautiful. Cool review btw.
From the game!
Good review, but the music in the beginning is the main title from Ender Magnolia

Thanks for posting this great review of the game. Looks like a must buy
Thanks for the review, how long did it take you to beat it?
No problem! Around the 20 hour mark or so!
Coincidentally, there's another metroidvania with "Bio" in the name coming out this month. Biogun.
Man i hope this game gets popular that it gets a dlc or sequel
(So we can maybe get memes)
(Man I sound like a fan boy)
Not on switch?
Looks awesome hope it comes to Xbox
Heres another "bio" game, Bio-Nick the Commando
Never heard of that one! Wait a second...
Biomutant

I've had that in my library for so many years but never actually played it. What do you like about it? I always love discovering new metroidvanias.
@@jeremybarnett3791 Try it for yourself and see. The combat and exploration are unmatched in the genre to this day.

Dust and elysian tail is one of the most boring Games I have ever played
Broke up after 6 h
