Really appreciate it.
You opened up whole new world to me ! Thank you so much Kevin ! OF course, I will be on board for a premium training, especially if you combine Oxygen and Meta Box !!!
I am building a website site for publishing highly sourced explainers (articles, videos, and dynamic infographics) that will require a ton of citations. The killer feature of this site will be a customizable reference library so people can easily cite their sources while composing content, find old sources they previously cites, and share citations amongst each other. If you think about how many data points - and how many relationships they can all have (journals, books, news articles, authors, scientific papers, etc.) then you can see how quickly this can get incredibly complicated. But I *have* to make it present as simply las possible for my users! I'm going to use custom post types and fields to build all this out on the backend and then learn how to customize frontend/backend interfaces. So thank you for helping me get started on my journey. I hope I can find more videos from you that will enhance my knowledge of this as I go.
Got excited to see custom post type tutorial but had to drop it off completely at 8:30 when saw a plugin doing or making the custom post type. Anyways, kudos to your efforts to explain the scope of custom post types.

The websites I’m creating are usually small sites for artists etc. They don’t even need posts, only a couple of pages and some photo galleries. That’s why I didn’t tinker much with Custom Post Types till now. Having watched this instructive tutorial I realize the immense potential and value of CPTs. A premium training for Oxygen would be great. Where do you (as an agency owner and a dog owner:)) take all the energy for creating these superb videos?
Since you asked, here are some ideas for tutorials / courses: - It is way too difficult in the current Oxygen/Wordpress framework to set up this simple flow on a site. I want to show all terms in a taxonomy with images. When you click on that taxonomy, you land on a archive page for the CPT. Then can click on each individual CPT to see the single instance. For example, on a product site baseball gear: First page would show all product types (taxonomies) such as gloves, bats, ball, etc. When you click on the glove category, you get a list of all gloves. You can then click on a single glove to see the details of it. I run into this ALL the time and have to hack it with code snippets and/or some creative templates in Oxygen. It is important that the URL stays consistent and hierarchical. - How to add images to a CPT? Do you use the "Add Media" button. Do you made a Custom Field for the images? I've done both - Relationships (you said you were covering that already) - Deep dive into permalink structure for CPT and taxonomies. If you turn off archive for the CPT can you use that slug for a page? I like my url's to make sense and it can be tricky because the CPT slug and taxonomy slug have to be unique.
Love your content. Love your jokes. Really wish, there was a follow-up video on how to make those relationships of CPTs. Anyways, thank you so much for amazing content. I was surprised you didn't mention chumps in this video.
Thanks very much for this! Your statement about Products and how we should be using WooCommerce for that use case rather than custom post types was very helpful. I was literally stuck in that dilemma trying to figure out how to implement custom checkout with custom post type: "Product". But I guess the way to go would be to add custom fields to the WooCommerce Product post type that comes with the plugin if we want to customize it further. This, at least for small products that can be sold online. Additionally, the car dealership analogy made sense for custom post type: Product. Thank you sir! I really am learning a lot from you

Great information. I only have my single website, but this information is very useful and helpful. It gives me a great foundation of what can be done before I hard code and try to shoehorn stuff into static pages. Needless to say that I am not ready to dive into actually creating custom post types yet, but definitely closer than I was before watching your video. One question would be is there a downside in creating too many custom post types or relationships? Is there a negative impact to performance or database bloat? Also, can I create those relationship fields on standard pages and posts? For example have a page related to multiple posts or a post related to multiple other posts. I can definitely understand your comments in relation to trying to filter things just with standard categories and tags. Then when you do a query list, in your list filter you might have some tags or descriptions that aren’t relevant or even confusing to the end user. Thanks again for all your videos. A lot of them are way past my skill level and understanding, but so far they all seem to have at least a few nuggets that apply to my situation.
Now i see the benefit of your custom taxonomy. It could also be a sub-category in a "Services" category, but then it would be available to every kind of post-type. Your new taxonomy is only available to Service post-type.
Thank you so much for this, it is really an eye opener to the scope of what can be done. It has certainly given me some new ideas for my next projects. This stuff is invaluable!
I am advanced with custom post types and this video was still extremely helpful. You are really good at this. Thank you for another amazing video! PS: I've wasted years of my life trying to make a decision on CPT & Taxonomy slug names (joking).
Hey Kevin, Thx for sharing this value content. I've watched this more than 5 times... every time I need anything about CPT, I come back and check it. My Questions about (Has Archive?) - Start at 10:05: One: If this sets to false, that means I need to create a page for the archive(same slug), Right? Then edit the page with builder I do have. Two: (Bricks Builder Case) Why I don't set the archive to true from the beginning and assign template from bricks templates via the conditions? e.g. (True Archive) - Create template and assign it to CPT archive via Bricks conditions. Or e.g. (False Archive) - Create page for the archive, Edit the page via Bricks/Any Builder. What is right to do, Which is maintainable and scalable & why?
You can do it either way. I usually create a page because it’s easier to manage pages than templates. And it makes more logical sense. A /blog/ page with an articles grid is a page in my mind, not a template. Having to make certain things pages and certain things templates and remember what is what makes sites messier to manage.
This is really helpful and very well presented. I'm an experienced PHP developer with a client that insists on using WordPress, so I have to put aside a lot of what I know and learn many new ways of doing things... The one question I had was in regards to relating custom post types. Would you use Advanced Custom Fields, or is there a more direct method? In this case, it's a support site for Products (custom post type), which fall under a hierarchical structure of Product Categories (taxonomy) and have multiple images (ACF gallery field) as well as supporting Documents (Custom Post Types) with taxonomies for Language, Status, Type, Format, etc. You helped me sort out the initial structure, and relating Produces to Categories is easy, but now I need to relate Supporting Documents to Products in a many-to-many relationship. On top of that, I have to import thousands of records from Salesforce and Oracle to populate this structure, but that's another question.
Yes, a repeater tutorial, and maybe something about securing a website (fi all in one security and firewall) would be great. Love your tutorials they are so usefull!
This is a one of my priorities at the moment. I want to be able to use Custom Post Type to create a Course custom post. This way i can any custom field and then allow visitors to just look up a course and if they are interested they can then purchase. This is not to be a direct online course but a Webinar Session. Is this a possibility
Fascinating. I installed the CPT UI a few months ago, but have only been using the taxonomies for product filters, and haven't started creating post types. I am mainly in-house webdev for a manufacturer of roof vents (I liked the roofer example you used ... welcome to my world) and transitioned to a production Oxygen site in March. Happy to be done with VC! Testimonials hit home too. We have them in our blog, but you're so right they should be standing on their own. It occurs to me I can make shadow reviews of all our reviews on Google, Trustpilot, Yelp ... whatever. I may not even have to copy them, just display the page in an . But it's a review page, that customers could filter through in a repeater. I liked Oxygen, and knew Sofly from WP All Import, so I knew they meant it with unlimited forever licenses. I bought it a year before I had any real use for it, but I've managed to create the environment where I use it every day all day, and doing so has taught me a tremendous amount about CSS, Javascript and PHP. I eliminated plugins for our color options with custom php, including overriding Woocommerce's Form function to create my own color options, and worked out functions for populating the cart and checkout. I put to rest our Calculator plugin and just finished the css for my code for our new Roof Ventilation calculator yesterday. roofvents.com/active-ventilation-products-attic-vent-calculator/ As for the Pro deep dive? I'd be very interested.

If you setup a CPT and a corresponding custom taxonomy, what would you use as the "main page" for that CPT? Would you just use a standard "page"? Seems a little clunky, but I'm unsure
@@Gearyco I appreciate the reply, thank you. Quick followup: If I go the CPT archive, is there a way to A) Get the Gutenberg editor, and B) I take it you fill out the input fields with custom fields targeting the "Post type list", right? Thank you again, nobody else seems to know what to do here.

I’m guessing this is the way to go so clients can update the custom field sections rather than muck up a page layout? Great content Kevin and would like deeper dive on this.
this was a great video- I just was thinking about how to best organize content so it was easily searchable and well organized- this was helpful. if we want to have a site where we as the admin have the architecture set up a specific way but then want users to be able also to make different categories of posts- and limit part of that- ie- video, photo, story, and let other users vote on those posts- do you have any suggestions? can this be done with this particular plug in or a different plug in or has to be built out? thanks!
thank u for this post type video... can i expect more deep video regarding the post type and repeater things... also please show some tips for wocommerce sites... thank u again for putting your time and effort sir....
I'm curious how database queries affecting loading speed and minimum hosting requirement. Charging a client or encourage them pay good hosting not as easy as compared with flashy front end pitch
Does anyone know a video or tutorial how to show custom information on the archive of a post type? Like in a blog post you have author, date etc. i want to have more information than that on custom post types(e.g reviews should have stars or a grade) but I have no clue how to show that information on the front end. I only know how to create custom fields on the backend and show that information on the post page. But not the archive view.
I dont remember the timestamp, but when you put the slug, i.e. repair_cat , would it not be better to write "category" instead of "cat" because of SEO? Has CPTUI also a Repeater? Im thinking about to buy ACPT , what do you think about?
Heres a longshot, i just started using cpt and i want to know if i can have a cpt that collects user submitted documents and images so that when they login, they can view and download them but only see what they uploaded?

Thank you again, nobody else seems to know what to do here.
Great stuff! Thank you a lot for your insights!
I can't find the video that goes more in depth and is there one that says how to style each one? Thanks so much!
I have more in depth tutorials in the inner circle - DigitalAmbition.co/inner-circle
When you doing a follow up vid mate? :) , as soon as im not poor af ill be doing your courses thats for sure , all your vids here have helped ALOT bro! cheers
Soon! Which part do you want to see most?
@@Gearyco well beggars cant be choosers and literally every video you do is full of gold!.... im not worthy
Actually a video on how you set up your cats & taxs for your CPTs would be good , like a deep dive
This is awesome.
Great video as always! Killing it.
great vid, really helpful
Thank you! Could you please explain how you display the CPT category page if you set the "Has Archive" to false?
This is just great content. Keep it up 💪 As mentioned in some of the other comments, i would also like to see the power of ACF. I'm struggeling with a field to a cpt, that adds the post to a users favourites. Its that possible?
Again, thanks for the videos 🙏
Great content, this was super helpful!
great stuff Kevin! Thank you!
I’m guessing this is the way to go so clients can update the custom field sections rather than muck up a page layout? Great content Kevin and would like deeper dive on this.
Yes, for that reason too
Great content. Thanks for sharing
Absolutely helpful. Thanks.
Glad to hear it!
Very helpful
Awesome!
this was a great video- I just was thinking about how to best organize content so it was easily searchable and well organized- this was helpful. if we want to have a site where we as the admin have the architecture set up a specific way but then want users to be able also to make different categories of posts- and limit part of that- ie- video, photo, story, and let other users vote on those posts- do you have any suggestions? can this be done with this particular plug in or a different plug in or has to be built out? thanks!
Amazing !!
Love your videos!
🙏
this is awesome
thank u for this post type video... can i expect more deep video regarding the post type and repeater things... also please show some tips for wocommerce sites... thank u again for putting your time and effort sir....
I'm curious how database queries affecting loading speed and minimum hosting requirement. Charging a client or encourage them pay good hosting not as easy as compared with flashy front end pitch
Not sure what you’re asking
That won’t have any impact on SEO. I prefer Metabox over ACF.
Super!
i just want to create some custom text to show in my dynamic content, in this way shall I use Custom Post Types or Advanced Custom Fields?
It’s not one or the other. You can attach custom fields to a custom post type.
#11: Knowledge Base.
Heres a longshot, i just started using cpt and i want to know if i can have a cpt that collects user submitted documents and images so that when they login, they can view and download them but only see what they uploaded?
Everything is posisble. Just depends on skill/time/money.
@@Gearyco like a miracle worker I was just watching this again when you comment popped up. I watched it slower and dude I think I figured out what you meant. Thank you for the video, comment and validation
7:50 Odd i have never heard of it. Thought it was more like 60% ACF, 30% Metabox, 10% other vendors.
Do you have any experience/oppinions on ACPT? Seems like its gaining tracktion
Haven’t used it 🤷♂️
