I had to reply since our last names are similar (everyone thinks it's Richardson, I have to say...nonono! lol). Anyway. I have a Kurzweil PC3-x, which I've used for over 16 years. It has never failed or faltered. I love the action and everything else seems cheap to me. I used it as my sole keyboard in a Journey tribute band and got ALL the sounds spot on (except the piano sound on Don''t Stop Believin,' that is really hard to get). I only got a 2nd keyboard (a Korg Triton Extreme which I found really cheap) because my bandmates said Jonathan Cain uses multiple keyboards. (Oh, all right! lol). EVERY time I played it in new situations, other musicians always were stunned by the sound. The problem with the Japanese keyboards is that Asians tend to make the sounds too bright (note how Japanese music has a lot of high pitched intstruments) because they are more pleasing to their ears. This is not "racist" but truth...I nearly became a Yamaha rep and sold keyboards in the 80's. It is well-known. Anyway, I'm going to replace my Kurzweil because it's just wearing out. And before that, I had SEVERAL 88-key keyboards for a year or two and have owned many, many other keyboards. But you always have to ask yourself, "What do I want my keyboard to do for my musical satisfaction?" I've bought many musical toys on strictly emotion and later realized that many of the sounds, even though they were cool, had no real use. Hope that helps.
The Kurzweil is the only one here that has the real synth FM engine built-in. Which is incredible for this class. Also, you can load all of those other Yamaha DX sounds into the Kurzweil!
No. PC4 has more presets, but Forte has the bigger/nicer samples for piano, Rhodes, Wurly, Clav, Celesta, Harpsi and Glock. For everything else, the sounds are interchangeable. Those are different classes. You would want to test it against the Forte series. However, the fact that people are even thinking to put the PC 4 in the same class as higher class workstations, tells you how good it is.
This is Unfair comparison. PC4 is the flagship of Kurzweil. Of course Montage should be counter part. Although MODX partially use same sample of Montage.
Sten Modler Pondal I don’t agree that Forte is the flagship just for memory spec comparing. Below points are some reasons why it can not be flagship model. 1. PC4 uses LENA processor, and Forte uses MARA processor. LENA processor has processing ability, about 6 times, compare with Forte’s 2. Some functions need for using workstation are more powerful than Forte. Even It was worse before Forte launching 4.0 OS ver. Update 3. Forte (128 poly) vs PC4 (256 poly) So, unless new model revealed at Forte line, still PC 4 would be the flagship of Kurzweil.
@@matthewsohn5220 I have to correct myself: the PC4 has 2 GB's of sound, not 4. Surely the PC4 has certain pros over the Forte since it's a much newer board. But the Forte is still the flagship, in the sense that it's the pro-level keyboard with much bigger sample ROM, more user sample memory, better keybed, better build quality, internal power supply and polyphony-free organs - All this was cut down on the PC4 in order to reduce price and/or weight. But I would agree that the Forte needs an update with all the new stuff from PC4 I still however don't see why they should have used the Montage in this video (even though the MODX and the Montage apparently shares most of the same sounds anyway). But the PC4 is supposed to be a light weight midrange board, which is also reflected in the price, and the Montage is almost twice as expensive. The Forte would probably have fared better in this video's comparison, as it has the full size piano samples and not the destilled ones in the PC4, and both keyboards still share the same synth-engine and the same FX-engine.
Sten Modler Pondal Justifying “which Model is the excellent synth” is changing nowadays. Few years ago, bigger memory and many kinds for sample sounds is the most important thing. But “Virtual Instruments” change the paradigm of Hardware Synth. As Virtual Instrument more developed, Rom memory loaded with hardware synth, containing sound samples, would be substituted. Finally, we should consider “the convergence” with DAW. Or as workstation into foreseeable future. And PC4 reflect this needs accurately. Cut off the weight, so does it. Of course Kurzweil could cut-off their cost for produce. Anyways, as a workstation, PC4 has more powerful performance than MODX I think. And I also can not understand why they should compare two models just for piano sample sounds, not for other special functions. It looks a little bit dumb. It was really “meaningless” comparison.
What a pathetic comparison . The Modx has thousands of sounds and then you can modify the heck out of them. I'm sure the Kurzweill has similar possibilities and we get a few pianos played in this video . Not showing even 1% of possible sounds.
Nord is super easy to use, and they sound good enough, but they're a bit underpowered, especially considering the high price tag. Stage and Electro can barely do splits and layers. Boards like PC4 and MODX are for users that need more features for settings like wedding/cover bands, music theater, etc, that require a ton of flexibility and programmability.
because they have already bought their board. If they were all forced to make a new purchase today, Nord wouldnt be as well represented as they are now. And plenty of people do prefer the modern Yamaha piano sound to the Nord.
No way! I recently purchased a MODX-88. Also have 2 other Yamaha Pianos (P125 and P250) as well as Kurzweil Artis. Have an Electro 4 and Nord Electro 6. The MODX puts every sound on the Nord to shame except in the Organ category. Also, with Nord, it’s not possible to layer two sounds in a segment (Organ, Piano, Synth). With Yamaha and Kurzweil this is a non brained. So, yeah, since you paid twice as much for a Nord than a Yam or Kurz, you’re gonna have to say it’s the best.

Kurz
MODX=PLASTIC
PC4=MORE NATURAL
The modx is a lo budget .if you want to compare the Pc4 Compared to the montage not modx
:)
So is the pc4 way da matta wit u
What a pathetic comparison . The Modx has thousands of sounds and then you can modify the heck out of them. I'm sure the Kurzweill has similar possibilities and we get a few pianos played in this video . Not showing even 1% of possible sounds.
yamaha sounds better..
Nope, both of them cannot compete with Nord. Nord is number one with keyboard musicians in Nashville.
Speaker is too far from the Yamaha.Yamaha is cheaper and more sounds.it is stupid to buy luxury cars and the same occurs with Keyboards.
Yamaha wins!
Wow... Yamaha. They sound really nonbeatable.
Yamaha wins ...
