Yet another Celtics fan stopping by to say how much respect I had and gained for the Pacers throughout this series. A lot of great players who played their hearts out to the very end. Also, Tony, I think you’re a fantastic host for Locked On Pacers. Really knowledgeable and fair and I learned a lot about the Pacers while listening. Thanks!
Weird to say after a sweep, but I’m proud of this team. All we had to do was take a step forward this year and we instead we took a leap. Champs aren’t made overnight, you gotta take your lumps. I’m glad were getting ours, the team will be better for it. Look at the team that just beat us for example. Still a lotta of growing to do, but the arrow is shooting up. Thanks to the Pacers for a fun season, and thanks to Tony for great coverage. Boom baby.
As a Celtics fan you guys definitely have so much to be proud of this year. So much potential and still so young, I wouldn’t be surprised if our teams match up a number of times in the future. And trust me from watching mostly every game since Tatum and brown have been together, you guys will have major ups and downs in the coming years. It’s super hard to do in the moment, but try to enjoy this team’s growth and the relationships the players build with your fan base. Before you know it players you loved for years could be traded so enjoy their presence and the work they put in for your team. Again congrats on the year and should definitely be optimistic on the future!
From a Celtics fan... no, not weird at all. Some playoff series can be accurately summarized in that single line on the team summary page. But "Celtics beat Pacers 4-0" tells us nothing about this one. I've seen series go 7 that weren't half as competitive as this one. Pacers are going to be an absolute handful the next few years.
thank you Tony for your upbeat and honest podcast all year. It was a blast. We have a lot to take in and learn. Can't wait for the next run. Poise and talent, especially in the clutch beats speed and youth. Hope we have a good offseason and hope you get one as well brother. Be well!
Great season to be a pacers fan. this team showed a lot of growth just eventually came up short… it’s all a growing experience and everyone on this team that returns next year will be better for it. excited for the future of pacers basketball!
What went wrong is that as the Playoffs progressed Myles Turners Legs and Back just became too worn out. He wasn't able to be a force. They need to trade him and get a Center that's more reliable. A player that can be durable. Be a force that will #1 rebound. Then guard the rim and give some points. With Benedict Muthurin coming back that's all they really need. They need to pay Pascal to stay as well.
Pacers played aggressive and with heart. Bunch of your guys drove me nuts- McConnell, Nembhart(?), Obi Topin-It shows they are true NBA players ready to step in and succeed when called upon. Pacers have a good nucleus to build from. But the Celts will be ready again to deal with them next year.
Good show, Tony, and great job covering this series. No doubt I'll be tuning in again next year, when Boston/Indiana comes up again. I hope Locked On Mavericks (or maybe Locked On Timberwolves) are as good as this one.
Tough losses for you guys, must of have been rough to watch. As a Celtics fan it was good to see the Cs perform well in the clutch against a historic offense. Thanks for the great content, I hope Lockedon Mavs is even half as good as Lockedon Pacers.
As a Cs fan, this is probably the last time I will be tuning for Tony. He is a very insightful man and I never seen him overreact during our series. Great host and have that "enthusiastic" vibe. We will beat yall again next year, believe me.
Dude I’m a 37 year old Celtics fan living in Rhode Island most my life twenty mins out of Boston. I can assure you they will be back and we will have to get through them. It’s a great YOUNG pacers team. Give them a few years like it took for the js
@@Bwestbrookmassive respect, i never expected the pacers to win this series, the celtics are just head and shoulders above everyone and it feels like their time to break through. celtics vs pacers will be fun for the next number of years, we’ve already had some crazy games in the regular season the last few years and now the playoffs.
@@Braylenc123 have you guys thought about getting an elite 3&D wing and trade Andrew while his value is all time high if you really want to contend? Siakam is not getting younger
@@everminenow the pacers have multiple guys they can trade, bennedict mathruin, nembhard, turner. we will see what they do, i’m sure the front office sees the same problem considering they’re with the team every day, they also have a rookie on their bench that didn’t play much this season that physically checks the boxes in that area. if you think this is as good as the pacers get you’re crazy.
It's been a great season. Really , really proud of Pacers. Let's not get over optimistic though. We were one Giannis away from first round exit. We barely defeated an injury riddled Knicks team. We can't loose focus on developing our younger guys. Our future is still in the future. Thank you for the coverage Rhett and Tony
@@npwarr2651 Yeah I still can't wrap my mind around how people see that Bucks series would have been a foregone conclusion even with Giannis. Oh well. Pacers are like the 3rd youngest team in the league and the Bucks are a retirement home, I'd hope they could win for their sake.
Nothing happens in a vacuum. What if they had Giannis? Well, that changes their rotation, who gets the ball when, what shots they take, how the Pacers play and their rotations, and a million other things. Giannis being hypothetically inserted into the series isn't a single change that keeps everything the same but add 30/10/5 for tge Bucks. What if the Pacers also had Mathurin in addition to tge Bucks having Giannis? All the what if stuff is pointless.
Add a great two way wing. Mikal Bridges! We can't hold on to two starting points. We will lose one of them. So trade one while you can. Can we leverage Nembhard to get Mikal? Not without giving up a lot, and hoping for a sign and trade. Ty and a second for Mikal and a first. I feel the same about this as I did about trading Sabonis instead of Myles. The difference in trade value is much greater than the difference in floor value. Mathurin needs to start between two good defenders. TJ needs a rotation spot. Nembhard needs to start. Nesmith needs to go from adequate starter to fantastic backup. Love Hali, what a great guy!... but this trade fixes everything. Makes both teams better.
Celtics fan here, but… I gotta say if moral victories counted you guys woulda won the chip this year… seriously, no one picked this team to get this far, and they competed for sure…
Speaking to the Jalen Brown foul on T.J.. He did hit him in the face. I didn't think it was a flagrant 2 but there was no doubt in my mind that it would have been a flagrant 1. Maybe I'm wrong about this and don't know the NBA rules. Brown received a technical earlier in the game for shoving Myles. My thought at the time of that foul on T.J. not getting called a flagrant, would have been the 2nd technical foul on Brown sending him packing for the game. I don't know if flagrant fouls count as a technical but if they do then the refs purposely didn't call that a flagrant in order to keep Brown in the game. I don't know if Brown getting tossed at that time would have changed the outcome or not but there would have been no doubt the refs interfered with the process of the game.
Young Pacers team was really impressive and didnt lay down especially after Hali dropped out. Bright future for this team. Made Boston work. I say this as a Celtics fan.
Yes tv replay showed McConnell got a palm to the nose then the way he hit the floor. I’d be shocked if he was seeing anything clearly. Can’t believe he came back.
Good discussion about the Pacers future. If they keep Pascal, they are in win now mode. But if he goes elsewhere, they are back in build mode. If Pascal comes back, Pacers best assets to trade are Mathurin, Walker, and Myles expiring contract. That would position them to get one more wing which they need to beat the Celtics.
Tony, thoughts on this off-season: 1. Walker and Mathurin in rotation. Mathurin starts at 2 guard. Walker off bench can play multiple positions 2. Resign Pascal. 3. Sign OG Anunoby. 4. Bench is Walker, Naismith, Nembhard, Jackson, Toppin, TJ, Shephard. 5. Let Jalen Smith, McDermott walk. 6. Turner, unless the Pacers change how they play defense, he is a liability on that end. He was exposed badly in Celtics series. As good as he is on offense, not sure what to do with him with one year left. They must improve on POA defense, have offensive sets for end of game. You need a top wing defender to slow the Celtics, if not OG, they need to find someone.
Recency bias would say Drew, but we can't forget Mathurin and how consistent he was. This is a toss up, but I like Mathurin"s size and I'm banking on continued defense improvements.
Pacers defensive schemes horrendously pathetic-Carlisle is horrible-switching with TJ in lineup mind boggling dumb because they did it again and again with taller players shooting over him.
We learned that drew is a stud. He may end up the best player on this team before everything is said and done. He needs to come off the bench as the primary ball handler/scorer. It's time for Benedict to take the next step and start at the 2, unless we can make a miracle move like signing PG then move Nesmith to the 2 and PG to the 3. Ben and Drew off the bench would be nice. That would mean trading turner for cap relief, but at this point who cares. He has a game here and there, but mostly disappears and gets out rebounded by guards. Ijax can take that spot. Tyrese Nesmith P George Siakam I jax (or a cheap vet center) I'll take that 5. Drew, shep, mathurin and hopefully jarice off the bench (TJ might be a cap casualty in the PG scenario) but it you keep him also..man we dangerous
Can we take time to appreciate how much more tolerable celtics fans are than the insufferable Knicks fans. I’m just glad we beat those losers. Good run boys.
As a Celtic fan I can say with absolute certainty that Pacer fans are MUCH more tolerable and downright nice compared to Heat and Knicks fans who are both awful.
Maybe Pacers need to sign Baylor Scheierman (aka Larry Bird) if he's there. Dude's 6'7, shoots the lights out. He can go 65% around the rim and at 2's. Dude's a close 38% 3pt shooter. Avg 9 rebs, passes on a string 5asts a game.
As a lifelong Boston fan indy played really hard and couldve easily won 2 games..In each game they wore the same unis maybe if they switched up their colors they would probably have more success. Shoutout though for playing well and it their all.
Nembhard was better defensively than Haliburton Haliburton would have been cooked easily And offensively Nembhard played great so i think we would have lost anyway with Haliburton
Haliburton needs to play 1 on 1 with Nembhard all off season…to learn how to score when a good defender is checking him…also, Haliburton can learn some dribble moves and how to penetrate the paint! Haliburton has only one damn move…a step back 3!!! Haliburton needs to develop…or he isn’t worth 40+ Million!!!
He needs to come off the bench with TJ and whomever next year. I get that in the Pacers offense he "work" more because he sometimes hit a 3, but he has no interior presence and no Post-Up game. He is looking like The Kat of the East. Playing below his size.
I believe Boston would have won even with a healthy Haliburton. However, I don't think it would have been a sweep. Haliburton is still better at moving the ball. Although I thought Nembhard did improve as a passer during this series.
Nembhard only plays well as a starting PG…he is not a damn SG!!! I wouldn’t rely on Nembhard doing this with Haliburton hogging the ball!!! If Carlisle has a brain he would let Nembhard run point a lot more…and switch Haliburton to SG throughout the game…Haliburton will be wide open with Nembhard’s paint penetration abilities!!!
Turner thinks he’s Dirk. Dirk won the chip when he was balancing a post-game with his shooting. I havent seen him block a shot in a while. We need interior help and second chance rebounding.
